Hi guys I've just bought a complete clutch kit of ALFA 147 GTA for my 20V turbo. I bought it because you said me it is plug'n'play on our 20VT. But someone tell me the 20VT clutch is more resistant than the GTA clutch He tells me that the Fiat clutch can support more torque! I just want you to put me at rest. Are we wrong when we say that the GTA clutch is better than the Fiat clutch? I hope i haven't bought it for nothing

They are the same cover & release bearing but the GTA friction disc is bigger. Thats all.

The covers/release bearing are the same part number. More surface area = less slippage = more torque

GTA should be a bit better - but not a world of difference.
As long as it holds your level of power then either would be fine.
They are also the same price, so take your pick IMO....

Thanks guys In France the price of the GTA is smaller than the price of the Fiat clutch So : better price and better grip! That's a good deal Happy to know i've made the good choice

Sorry to hijack the thread but will the GTA clutch work on all 20VT's, or is it just 5 speed or just 6 speed cars etc...
Cheers, Simon.

The covers/release bearing are the same part number. More surface area = less slippage = more torque It all depends of the clamping force of the cover. If i'm not mistaking a GTA disc accepts less torque than a standard disc but wears slower.

I care... because of the mod i'm going to do in the next weeks Big Hybrid T28 is coming from England (stock size for the turbine, trim 64 for the compressor... i know this is experimental... i hope it will be fine ;)) FMIC is ready to be on my coop too I've heard that standard clutch can support 320/330 hp! Hope that's right because i want this power

For clutches, it is measured in torque so bhp figure don't matter. Even with a hybrid turbo, the standard and GTA clutches will do the job sufficiently well. Youre probably only gonna get 250-270 lb/ft of torque with that sort of mods anyway. Fine Thanks again

Cheers, Simon. It will fit all 20vt models and the 16vt as well.

Yes increased clamping force increases torque rating but so does the surface area of the friction disc since both covers are the same only the surface area matters. The GTA disc is bigger than the coupe one.

I would go for a Helix organic clutch, don't think GTA significantly better, whereas Helix will give you a big safety margin

Do it once, do it right - I fried 3 clutches before I saw sense and went for a Helix.

Minipit, pourquoi tu vas si loin pour trouver une réponse? Tu sais que delta il est partout p.s. sorry boys, but me and minipit know eachother, altough he diden't realise before I've tried all of them and my conslusion i make is: - stock clutch: 400Nm of peak torque ok but fast wear rate. - Walkers organic : 400Nm max torque as well but lasts longer - Helix: really good stuff but haven't been able to finsih one. It does accepts 400Nm sustained torque for sure. Nobody ever metions skimming the flywheel is primordial on a new clutch.
