I know the 4x4 coupe thread rears it head from time to time anyway but i have been under the impression that 4x4 was something that only 16valvers can do???

But it has been suggested that the degra 4x4 system would mount onto the 20vt lump ok???

Can this be confirmed by you lot?

I think begbie / carlt said the 16v/t engines can take a 20vt gearbox with only a few changes. If thats the case would it not be possible to fit the 4wd gearbox to a 20vt in theory

the gearbox can be fitted, i am quite confident of that but what about the transfer boxs etc etc???

will custm drive shafts etc be needed?

the 6speeder wouldnt be strong enough after a while if you dumped the clutch and all the wheels were digging in for grip.

Basically it can be done, but you need to find a degra (sp) and get the full running gear.

Isn't the 4wd drive system intergated into the gearbox? on a lancia or dedra, isn't the gearbox and housing different to incorporate the 4wd system with an output for the propshaft? Or have I got the wrong idea?

has been done in Greece, and they used the running gear off a Alfa 155 Q4 (driveshafts, gbox, suspension etc)
Boot floor needs moding (flattening it out as in removing the sparewheel) fuel tank was custom.

Obviously cannot use a late 6speed box, you need as paddy says a 4wheel drive box to start with and iirc the delta is not ideal as you have to shift the engine to the side else the propshaft is not in the right place or something...

But yes, you can have a 20vt engine, with 5 speed box and 4wd as per this tipo

The 4wd system works by having a diff on the gearbox, then a front prop shaft which is mounted on the back middle of the engine, then you have the rear propshaft

All it has for an exhaust is a bent pipe lol!!

Stupidinly quick and nice manifold as well, looks like an RS or GT30 turbo and nice big front mount. From what i can see the front end has been remade in part to hold it all which should make it all nice and stiff as well.

a fiat coupe 20v turbo plus has been moded to greece to a 4x4 ,details will be given in a couple of weeks.....

depends on your budget and how much of it you would do yourself?

I have done the turbo engine in the tipo, just not the 4wd

Keith at Auto Integrale has been out in the Greek 20vt Coupe 4x4. Apparently "its a lot of work", take it from me, that means minimum 5 figures in Keith talk

We were thinking of going 4x4 with the kappa, but in Keith's words again "even you're (meaning me) not that nuts"
