During my troubles of the last few days one of the many AA men who attended suggested an extention to their cover, which effectively covers repair costs up to £500 for around £80 a year he said. My question is, has anyone else got this and do they honour it? if i'd taken this out it would have saved me in excess of £1500 this last 9 months alone, and i'm seriously considering this IF i decide to repair the coupe....

cheers for an answers

I was under the impression there was an age limit for these policies, ie cars over 10 years ect.

most stuff that is wear and tear is not covered. I reckon on most stuff they could argue that its wear and tear so i would be wary and read all the small print.

you will probably find it only allows one or maybe two repairs a year...any more and they will start restricting payouts.

belts would be hard to put to wear though, when one shears, surely?

A friend at work had his Rover head gasket go, repair bill was £550 or so, they repaid him £450 of the repair bill (he just took it to his normal local garage) - there's a £50 excess for each repair claim. They do stipulate that the car needs to be serviced in accordance to the correct schedule.
They didnt give him any hassle about repaying the money at all.

Not sure if there's a limit on the number of claims allowed in a year though.

i have the AA repair cover and my local garage honours the claims.
For my old 1998 punto it cost me £96 for the year.
This allows you up to 5 repairs per year, you pay the first £25 as an excess (that's what my cover states)and they will pay the next £475, any more and you will have to pay the extra.
Yep and it has to be maintained according to the manufacturers spec but it doesn't matter if it doesn't have service history so long as you start it from when you take the cover out and keep it maintained.
Looked into this long and hard before committing as I had a terrible year last year with breakdowns.
Saying that my Leon is in the garage now but is still under the garages warranty, just!!

My mate had this and had an issue with his punto turbo. The car wouldnt idle at all.

They had it all day and said that the £500 had been spent up on labour and had to pay the rest of the cost for further investigation.

Upon taking the car away,an apprentice with a concience popped out for chat with my mate and told it was just a boost hose that had popped off so my mate could get it sorted himself.

Bad garage.

The AA cover is the best cover that i have seen on any car...
They are as good as can be really.
I sell these on the cars i sell.
Cost me £190 including 12 months cover.
But they cover everything.
Other companies i have had alot of fallings out as they say in the advert they will cover anything then in the small print they say they wont cover it.

They usually cover all of the parts cost and upto £50 per hour of labour or a max labour charge per job...

After looking into this I have taken this out. £16 a month. Includes recovery to my chosen garage so I can entrust it to Rog if the worst happens. Figured ive spent a couple of grand in the last year and a bit so its gotta be worth a punt getting this cover.

http://www.theaa.com/breakdownrepaircover/index.html has the details

Save on expensive replacement parts
These are average claim costs for replacing these parts, based on our customers' experiences last year.

If we attended your breakdown and you needed one of these parts in a subsequent repair, you would pay only the £25 excess.

batteries can normally cost over £70 – more than the BRC annual premium
radiator replacement – £264
cam belt failure – £129
alternators – £272
head gaskets – £386
Find out more about the common causes of breakdown.

Our claims service
If our patrol can't complete repairs at the roadside, we'll arrange for a garage to carry out the repair work. Our claims team can talk to the garage on your behalf, so you don't have to get involved with the technical details. And we'll even arrange to pay the breakdown repair bill directly with the garage.

Important
For a claim to be considered you must call the AA for breakdown assistance.
Once you've nominated a vehicle for Breakdown Repair Cover, you'll need to keep it serviced in line with the manufacturer's recommendations. Servicing must be done by a suitable garage business.
A claim on your Breakdown Repair Cover cannot be for any faults that occur during the first 14 days of cover. If you change your vehicle you will also not be able to claim for 14 days after making the change.

Terms and conditions (eg small print) is here: http://www.theaa.com/breakdownrepaircover/terms-conditions.html

I have the cover as part of my policy. Used it when I first bought the LE and the turbo failed the same day.

It's peace of mind to have it there just in case something should go wrong, £500 won't pay for a full repair job but it will help.

I have just taken this policy out. as above, it wont cover the cost of a top end rebuild, or turbo replacement, it will go along way to helping though. It also was not that expensive considering the rest of the package laugh

Ill let every one know how I get on, touch wood, I don't break down however!
