As we are about to finish installing the new ProAlloy FMIC together with the SIP and the Apexifilter I am just wondering if the filter location is OK there eventhough the undertray is still under the filter and protecting it
from dirt.
Has someone considered another kind of protection?
I was told also that the best way to clean this dry filter is by simply blowing it out unless extremely dirty and in that case you can buy just the (expensive) replacement filter.
Anyone any experience with this?

Your info will be appreciated.
Cheers

The filter is fine down there ... many people (including me) have run like that for a long while. Note that a lot of people also install a 45deg angle to lift the filter out of harms way a little, as well as to help improve air flow over the MAF.

You just need to be careful about going through deep puddles!

The filter is cleaned as you say, or replaced if too old.

Thanks Dave!
To give it some more airflow we are now improvising the frontbumper.
I think it would be a good idea to clean the filter every year by carefully blowing the dirt out.
Anyone else?

(Many thanks to Hani for the pic! It came up after a google search for 'SIP Apexi filter Fiat Coupe' smile )

OK , see what you mean Dave .
But I believe that way it is somehow away from the direct airflow, don't you think so?
Also thnx Hani for the pic!

It is. But as soon as you start moving, there will be plenty of fresh air moving through the engine bay (to confirm just do some maths on the volume of air swept by the intake at, say, 30mph).

Yup that's my SIP + APEXi setup in the pic smile

It's not tested on roads yet as my car is not ready yet. I think it'll be fine even though the beam blocks air a bit but once the car is moving, flow will be take place as Dave said.

I've had to fit 2 x 90' bends on my inlet piping to the AFM is out of sight of the turbo, it runs like a bag of nails if it's fitted at the end of the SIP.

will there be any performance difference between the 2.5 and the 3'' ? does yours have the pipes on it?

not really as the turbo inlet is smaller on the standard 16vt 2.5" is plenty big enough and mine has no pipes on it its a solid pipe

nice one , ive ordered 2.5'' intercooler pipe kit so i could try both and see which 1 helps the turbo to spool faster, one more question , is your sip dead straight or has it got a slight bend in it

The Sip that I have from ProAlloy was bought together with the ProAlloy FMIC and is a straight pipe.
That actually means that I do not have enough room to make it go a bit upwards to get it more out of harm's way.
Allthough I believe it's safe from rain as to what I can see I am now thinking of making some kind of rubber flap underneath just to make sure it's safe.
Anybody else a better idea?

I've just fitted my SIP, but i think my MAF is too close to the ait filter.
Which distance do i need between the MAF & the air filter ?
What are the consequence if it's too close ?

thanks
