Has anybody any idea how many coupes are still running around on the road? There are about 10 I know of on the fylde coast which is nothing compared to mondeo, vectra and even Alfa gtv's.
Just curious.
Cheers Paul

I'd estimate the number at 10,451,162.5 The half is because I'm pretty sure stan cheated and missed out a load of bits when he put his jigsaw back together.

I think its nicer not to see so many other coupes
If you saw one every five minutes, i.e astra, mondeo, etc, the exclusivity of a coupe would soon go away!

I wonder if the fewer there is could lead to a parts shortage? Surely the people making the parts need to make money ? If there is not many people buying the bits maybe its not worth them making bits?

I've just moved to St Albans and I've sen loads in the past 2 weeks - 2 yellow cars on drives, a green 20VT on St Peters street on sat lunchtime, a silver car turning onto sandridge road a few weeks back, and ink black on a street that I cannot remember the name of. I think I have also forgotten a couple. More than I have seen in months on the road.

I'd say at least 10 cars a week are either being scraped or broken for parts in back yards. I've been looking at this for about a year and its been very constant . Remember it may still be registered with the dvla but in bits. Thats 500 cars a year, which will diminish as the total numbers go down. Thats why parts are cheap and you can take your pick where to get the parts. In about 2 years they will be garage cars and only come out in the fine weather and be crowned a classic car as the Fiat Dino is today. Get the parts now whilst they are cheap or if you have the space buy a scraper and keep it for your own car and swops for other parts. I had 2 cars near me in a scrap yard but they are only allowed to keep them for about a year. Now they are crushed with parts that could have kept 10 cars on the road. So parts are not around for ever

I think that's a tad pessimistic based on a previous survey earlier this year then there are still around 5,400 examples, though I guess less than half are on the road at anyone time. I would imagine the attrition rate of cars getting scrapped is not as high as being suggested in the earlier posts. It is easy to get hung up on the parts issue, but in reality much of it is off the shelf bits, its really the coupe odities such as panels, glass and trim that are issue.
Cheers
