Hello everyone thought i'd share my coupe experience with you. I've owned my coup around 18 months and its been a great car very reliable, spent a small fortune modding it and doing the major jobs clutch, cambelt etc. Anyway was out in the car yesterday driving down the dual carrige way when the bonnet flew up smashed the screen, managed to get off the road safley with out causing carnage. Needless to say the cars a right off and with out comprehensive cover i'm well out of pocket. Gutted

How bad is the roof, I'd get a body shop quote, If you are lucky Joe might have a bonnet in silver. Then have a dent guy or bodyshop look at the roof. and replace the screen.

When looking for damage repairable coupe's I saw a few with this damage, might be an idea to have a tie on the bonnet that would only allow it to come up a few inches... Or maybe like a seatbelt inertia reel, hmmmmmmmmm

I got into the habit of checking my bonnet after this happened on a Golf GTi I was driving! It happen at around 95 mph (or was in spot on 70, I can never remember :D) on the M42, luckily around 4 in the morning, scariest moment I've ever had on wheels, two or four shocked . I now, without fail always give the bonnet a good pull to make sure it's solid and check the mechanism for play everytime I have the bonnet up for some reason, so, every day then! (not quite).

I feel for you, but at least YOU are OK even if the coop isn't.

Gareth

oh dear coupes are in the wars at the minute, is it not possible just to get a new bonnet and windcreen or is the roof damaged also?

The roofs to badly damaged for a cheap repair, it happened at motorway speeds so came down with a fair whack, ripples right back to the rear screen. I'm going to break it and try and get some cash back for another one
Its not the first time i've had a bonnet make a bid for freedom, used to have a old mini was belting along at night when the bonnet flew off the car- ripped the hinges off. The thing is i never found it dont know what happened to it, was on a unlit road so drove up and down afew times couldnt see it anywhere came back in the morning it was nowhere to be seen.

Another thing to add to the coupe paranoia list frown

I had it happen to me in slightly strange circumstances...

Driving a London taxi in the middle of nowhere in Romania.

Was pretty buckled and had to strap it down with anything to hand!

That'll T-Cut out laugh

But seriously, bad luck

Very nearly happened to me - I was 15 or so miles down the motorway and had thought the bonnet looked a little strange so stopped and it was only on the 1st latch shocked

I was very lucky!
