Finally sorted laugh

oil breather catch can was fitted last week and I've just finished replacing the horrible plastic hoses with something a bit better looking.

Nigel, did you block off the one at the plenum?

Nice, just be careful if you get pulled by a Vosa inspection.

Kelv - no, the small pipe from the plenum to the cannister is still connected.

Having thought about it, I reckon the pipe from the plenum is there to create vacuum in the cannister to draw the oil vapour from the crankcase - the non-return valve is there to ensure that only vacuum is fed to the cannister. I don't believe the plenum to cannister pipe actually does much in the way of oil vapour recirculating, simply because of the size of the bore (its tiny compared with the circa-20mm bore of the rest of the breather pipes)

Now that you mention it Nigel, what you are saying makes sense.

I got mine disconnected anyway to experiment and so far the car has been feeling more responsive. It could be physcological though. As long as it doesn't cause the car any harm, i might leave it like that for now confused

Because its an MOT requirement to have oil vapours recirculate back into the intake system.

Nigel,

I forgot to ask, what size pipe and bung did you need for the breather input section on the straight induction pipe?

I have a 25mm bung but I haven't fitted it yet - I've currently got it blocked off with a 22mm copper pipe blanking plug - this was a very easy fit, so I'm hoping the 25mm bung will be just right

Mine passed the MOT, despite the bonnet being opened to adjust the headlamp levels. Although I only have a filter on the end of my breather 'pipe 4', not a full on catch tank.

That's looking very nice Nigel smile

interestingly, when I came to drain out the oil from the catch tank today, all I found was water shocked

There wasn't even enough to show in the sight glass - maybe half a inch at most

Admittedly, its dirty, oily water, but it looks like the breather system and catch tank is extracting condensation too - double benefit laugh

Well ever since i stuck the filter at the end of the hose, oil consumption has been zero. Diptstick has been showing full for hundreds of miles now. Strange.

Hi Nigel
i am confused . please could you explain what pipe exactly the bresther tank is connected on?
I know that from the turbo intake pipe (the one that carry on to the AFM then to the filter), there is a pipe of around 1 inch that go along the block, just below the thermostat, and connect back somewere behind the block.

Please explain it to me
Regards

Romi - that's the one! It runs from the intake pipe, under the thermostat, round the back of the block and connects to the oil recirculation canister

disconnect the 1" pipe from the inlet hose to the turbo (and blank off the hole) and then connect the 1" pipe to the catch tank
