Yes that's right, turbo boys and girls can stand down because this one is for our normally aspirated brethren!

It has been a long time coming (not from me but in general!), there is now an FC performance chip should you fancy it smile This has been developed for both the Coupe 20v and Bravo HGT to give improved throttle response, fuel economy and of course more power. The FC chip provides an increase in torque across the full range with both wide open throttle and part throttle driving, and an extended rpm limiter for a broader power band. The net results from the road and dyno are gains of 8bhp & 7lbs/ft. The chip has been designed for a standard car (95ron petrol), or a mildly modded car for even greater gains e.g. exhaust and/or air filter. The performance benefits are most noticeable with 3rd and 4th gears especially in the mid-range to redline smile

...and the cost, £45 smile

Sounds good Flea, does this apply to VIS engines as well??

Note to self: Click on the link and READ

Will there be a chip for the VIS in the near future? (If there isn't one already)

Stephen, the chip is for the non VIS Coupe 20v. You cannot chip tune the VIS as it is an OBD II type ecu which requires it to be flashed via the diagnostic port. I can tune the VIS but at the minute I do not have the hardware to flash the ecu.

TurboJ, the chip was setup on MarioCirillo's standard 20v with 95ron fuel. This was done on the road and a Dastek dyno so hopefully he'll add his thoughts as he was there on the day smile This is the dyno graph comparing the standard car vs the chipped car. I have subsequently made some small changes after mapping the Bravo HGT variant on the weekend, which has helped clean up the little dip at 2200rpm and also extended the limiter to give a broader power band.

Why didn't you set it up for 98 octane?

Just wanted to keep it simple for most owners as I know 95 is the usual fuel choice.

Thanks Flea for the reply to my query. Can you recommend a place yourself for a VIS tune or alternatively are there any future plans for you to get the equipment to perform the procedure as i'm in no particular rush and you come highly rated.

Angeltuning can map the VIS engine I think, they remapped my friends late spec Marea 20v.

How much do you think you can gain by using 98 octane?

Flea, out of interest, how much would the 20V NA be pushing (approx - I know it won't be 100% accurate) with this chip, induction kit/filter and a sports exhaust?

I.e would the chip give more than +8bhp fitted to a lightly modded Coop?

Do you have a chart of the fuel / air mixture over the rev range with part / full throttle? Would be interesting to see.

(you ever time if you didnt know already!)

thanks again flea for offering a excellent product at a very reasonable price. i hope to see you at work on the vis system soon (although i know thats a completely different ecu)

I would estimate 160-165bhp with a decat exhaust and induction. Add some cams and you could see 170-175bhp with a custom map.

As standard they run quite rich from around 4000rpm especially at redline so I have leaned this out quite a bit. Part throttle is controlled via the lambda until you reach significant load, so I have leaned this out also. The greatest gains are made with ignition timing.

Its for a non turbo mate. If you have a gtec 2 you must have a 20vt.

Anyone tried this chip yet? If so, how much "on the road" difference have you noticed?

I'm intersted as I am sick of driving a beautiful car being left for dead at traffic lights by 1.2L fiestas and the occasional van frown Get into 3rd and they are a long way back in my mirrors, but at the lights...the n/a seems to suck frown

PS had it nearly 5 years, always been the same...lol

really? i always found the 20v n/a quick of the lights if you wound it up a little. there was always more than enough power to light up the tiers if you so wished

I found mine to be pretty nippy off the lights anyway?
Since leighton remaped my 20V NA i have noticed a big difference in third and 4th gear my car is completely standard so im sure once i have fitted my new exhaust and airfilter it will be a bit more noticeable. as leighton said the car does run quite lean so its worth it just to save you a few quid on petrol.

Thumbs up for a happy Mario laugh

Ye, it's pretty flat until about 4000rpm then it lights up, but I still get left behind by what appear to be "normal" cars. Might give this chip a go before too long.

My 20v is chipped already with the recommendation of 97+ ron fuel for best performance. Think its a relatively old map from a while back.

I have no idea what the actual gain is apart from it being smoother and nippier before the 4000 kick.

I'm guessing the difference from my chip to yours won't be that significant to warrant changing?

I mean, obviously getting the chipped mapped to the actual engine is the best bet, but that costs nearer £250 than £45.
So if this chip actually gives me better performance for £45 I'll go for it, just don't want to pay out £45 then have the car feel no different or run lumpy (as I know some chips have done to cars) as I really don't want to pay out un-needed money on her anymore (£45 being a snip let's face it) as she has cost more than enough over the last 12 months for what she's worth. But at £45 for a good boost in performance, well then it's worth it.

I just want to know it works good before I buy it, I'm extremely cautious about spending money on her atm laugh

for £45 you cant go wrong, flea wouldn't have put the chip up for sale if he didn't think there was a marked improvement. even if you dont like it, im sure the most you would loose is 5-10 in resale value

resale value? lol, she's nearly 12 years old and in need of a lot of tlc...she ain't worth a c**p tbh.

Which is why I refuse to pay out any more big money just to keep her on the road. But £45 ain't much, it's just I don't want to change the chip only to get no noticable improvement, been there before with my previous car.

I'm very interested in this chip, I just want to know for certain I am going to get improvement in acceleration and NOTICeABLE improvement, not needing to have specialsit equipment to actually see the gains in performance. After all, it's on the road difference that counts laugh

A remap for your specific car is only £145 wink

Well it certainly doesn't run lumpy!!! As for "feeling" the performance, well only you can answer that although both myself and Mario have felt the difference on the road smile

I was quoted £250 for a remap on the car about 6 months after I bought it, but figured that was too much money tbh and not looked since.

But cool, that's 2 of you running the chip. Give me a couple of weeks or so and (funds willing) I'll probably have one laugh Unless something else goes wrong..lol

Can't be much left TO go wrong...I'm going to regret having typed that..I just know it tongue
