I had that happen on one of my 16VT when I first bought it. It was fitted with 100pcd alloys and no wobble bolts, and the threads in the hub had stripped.

Gaz you are lucky the wheel didn't come off on that dual carriageway near your place...

Happened to me in my mum's Clio two days after I passed my test.

First day got a puncture, second day the spare wheel turned out to be corroded beneath the paint - the holes for the bolts got bigger and bigger on an 8 mile drive home that the wheel fell off going round a roundabout! There was me thinking there was a stone in the brake...

many years ago i used to be passenger in a clio going to work 40 mls each way, anyway one morning on the A9 the wheel came off :o....he had lost all his nuts :oi can here all the jokes already, anyway he says what the fu...are we going to do. cant find any of the lost nuts so i suggested take a nut off each other wheels that will do until you purchase some more. turns out he had been working on the the car the night before & hadn't tightened his nuts properly \:o

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

A few years ago I was navigating in a 5000km (over 10 days) rally and we lost a rear driver's side wheel. We finished up in a sand bank on the side of the road where we had to dig the car out. It was quite "funny" watching the wheel pass us as we slid into the sand.

We had to replace a few wheel studs on the Holden and scrounged some nuts from another competitor.

Few years ago one of my Alfasuds was knocking badly, having just been to the Alfa dealer for some love.

Both front wheels had very loose nuts....
