Hello, I got my first coupe last night, it's a 20v in pink (it did use to be red!)

I comes with lots of documentation including bill of sale, mot's from new, all manuals, keys and original brochures including accessory brochure. The car needs some work but drove fine from Manchester to Cardiff last night. I'm not computer savvy enough to put pics on and it's pissin' down outside so that may come later.

Can my red paint be rescued or should I start saving for a respray?

Ta

Chris

Hi and welcome,

I'll be the first but I'll not be the last to say this...go and check your oil.

Also there's a good few coops down in S. Wales. I think you just missed a meet but keep an eye on the social section.

I'm sure some speed pink coopsters will be along to answer the paint question.

Welcome!

Speed Pink eh \:D

Depends how bad the paintwork is. Paint restores remove dirt and oxidization of paintwork, but you won't want to thin you paint too much. There's lots of posts on here on what the best polishes are to use, if you don't have much joy with the restoration then you could get it mopped by a garage, then it would be a respray.

Welcome to the forum \:\)

Is it a non-turbo 20v? Still worth checking the oil on a very regular basis but it's not quite so bad as the turbo versions.

The paint could be a problem: some of the Speed Red/Pink cars had a lacquer coat direct from the factory for some weird reason
Sometimes the lacquer clouds and can be restored using a decent polish, such as Farecla G3 followed by G10, both applied using a machine polisher.
If the red base coat has faded then no amount of polishing will solve the problem and a respray is the only way out \:\(

Don't be tempted to use T-Cut, it contains too much ammonia for the coupé paint.

I'm not a paint expert but I did learn a lot from someone who was generally regarded as being very knowledgeable about such things, just a pity he's no longer on the forum \:\(

Thanks, I'll get to a valet(ers)? at some stage and have them cast an eye over it.

Stan, it is a NA 20V 1998 R with 90k on the clock.

Hi and welcome. You will find a huge amount of helpful advice available on here. Stan in particular has helped me no end.

FWIW, my NA 20v is also big on oil consumption - I rarely get past 700 miles without having to tip the best part of a litre in.

I had my first coupe, the pink panther, professionally mopped. It helped to some extent on the less bad bits but the doors which had gone milky couldn't be rectified and I was offered a very good deal on respray...shame I wrote it off a week later °\(

Fraid to say if the paint is realy pink it probable is past saving, best option is a paint job, but don't let that distract you from checking your oil.
