Hi, I have a 1998 2.0L 20v.
It has the standard (4 spoke) wheels, and I would like to fit some 17inch alloys. I've looked at a few web sites and they only seem to do wheels for the 16v. I spoke to a guy at one of these sites and he seems to think that fitting after market alloys to a 20v is problematical, as the calipers (Brembo?)are bigger than the 16v. He mentioned something about 'sliding bolts' and spacers.
Does anyone know anything about fitting new wheels to a 20v, or any suppliers who can help? I live in Leicester by the way.
So far it seems that I can fit another set of 17inch alloys of my choice, as long as they have the correct bolt spacings (really?!!) and I use a spacer and a sliding bolt - whatever that is...don't I just need to use longer bolts to accommodate the spacer? And don't spacers put more strain on the suspension etc? What's the maximum size of spacer I can safely use?
While I'm on the subject, I quite fancy fitting a sill cover. There are many types available, but how are they attached to the car? I'm guessing they are just bonded on with adhesive. I could be wrong!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Both your questions need to be in styling.

Is it a 20vt turbo you have? If not, i think the brakes dont affect it as much.

As Ross says, if it isn't the turbo version then there isn't an issue with brake caliper clearance.

The problems begin when it's the turbo version......

and yes, the sill skirts are bonded on using something like Tiger Seal adhesive and possibly a couple of screws at either end of the skirt

KMG, the reason for the sliding bolts, is so that wheels from a 4x100 pcd can fit the coupe's 4x98 pcd (the measurement of the holes the bolts go through) its only a small difference but if you try to force normal bolts in you can damage stuff basically.

yes, spacers may well wear out you bearings faster than normal as well. you should go for hub-centric spacers as these will minimalise this and reduce any wobble through the steering wheel which can occur from 'universal' spacers.

spacers can also increase the track of the vehicle resulting in better handling.

do a quick google if you want to get technical, and if you look through the group buy section there was a recent group buy on H&r hub-centric spacers. im sure browsing through the thread will reveal some more answers to un-asked questions! \:\)

there are a few makes of wheels which are a direct fitmant for the coupe, and there is a thread on this somewhere in the styling section, with pics of the wheels on coupe's to give you an idea,

if you cant find it the search function is usefull!!!!,

oh, welcome to the forum and happy coupe-ing!
