Thanks Theresa - hopefully you can get back on track. My weight loss has largely been down to Mrs B joining in and our keeping each other on track. Come to think of it, any of my modest successes are all down to Mrs B!

I started my weight cut this week. I had crept up to 14st 10lbs (which is 7lbs heavier than I was at the start of the year) but I'm on it now.
Current weight = 14st 8lbs.
F****** b****** thing...

Took the coupe out yesterday with three other mates from my rugby days. I suspect we had over a combined 60 st between us, so no surprise in a considerable drop off in performance!

Thread resurrection, rather than starting another. Lost 3/4st lately due to a few things going on. Wife has been on at me for ages is the starting point. I'm due another hip replacement in the not too distant future. The pain has been so bad the Doc' has prescribed me Tramadol (I know) anyway, loosing weight has been pretty easy so far, the meds has lost me my appetite, & Ive been advised to loose some bulk before the op' . So there we have it, anyone else lost some weight lately for the coming season?..... .

Although hospital waiting times up here is not too bad, but, & there is always a but Simon, there are quite a lot of knee & hip replacement in the queue. Lots of arthritis & related problems in my neck of the woods. I'm down for a cancellation but even then there's a queue. Realistically some time in the first part of next year should see me pain free.

Well done Jim Losing some excess weight is always good for your health and even better if you're heading for an op. Although, if you keep losing weight, your hips will benefit and maybe relieve some of the pain? As for my weight loss, well, I need an op to wire my jaws together and take away most of my stomach in order for any weight loss to happen Ah Theresa, you sound just like my wife... All being well, I will look forward to meeting you again..

Whilst I was on the weight loss thread in 2017 and didn't sign up for the 2018 one, but did take the weight loss a bit more seriously. June 2018 I was around 12st 7 and as of now weighing in around 10st 2

Well I've lost a stone & a half, I can fit into my 34" trousers that have been away for a long time.. I'm still going to try another stone which will take me to 13 stone & it's been decades since I've seen that number stepping onto scales. I'm still struggling to get rid of my pot belly properly.... I'm exercising as well, all be it from the armchair. My hip just wont let me walk very far to get any proper exercise. Ah well onwards & upwards.... By the way Begbie I was at school when I was 10 stone...

Tell you what, I'm getting hooked on the exercise albeit from the comfort of my chair.. this did surprise me, as I'm pretty lazy these days, & the feel good euphoria is there also.. very surprised at that, bonus.

Hey All! Some long time Back I checked my weight and had a shock. I singed up to one of these and I have missed them. I started to run, I already cycled to work. I lost weight, I stayed motivated. You all helped. I ate more good food, and the same treats! Before I was going on 15 Stone ish. At the end of the year I was 12. Today several years later I'm 13.5 stone. And I'm stronger but I could not run a 10K or a 5K in the time I could back in 2012. I now cycle a much more strenuous route to work that is slightly longer. I've a bust shoulder. Our lives change and complexities happen. I'm at the top end of what I think is right for my frame. I could lose 0.5 stone of fat and get to 13 stone. But I am stronger than I was in 2012. This stops the pain from injuries! 12 stone is probably not where I should be, I was below this even and obsessed with getting a sub 40 minute 10K. (Sub note I lost so much weight it effected my hearing at some points) You can become unwell through obsession. I hope to encourage not dissuade, some fairly simple changes can have an effect, you don't have to go without, A late evening long walk can lower blood sugar and in-turn can lower what gets stored as you sleep. That can simply stabilize weight which may help with a first step. If you can maintain a weight, long term you can loose some should you want to. A good tool for android is sports tracker, track your walking now, from the car to the office ETC... Find the base line, Up the amount. It does not take as much as you may think. However if you want to loose a lbs a week you need to aim for 3500 calories a week. And that's a lot of effort for a beginner. I'm Jef_UK we can probably follow each other. - There is no one answer, no secret ingredient. Fats not bad, Sugar is not bad. Beer is not bad..... Excess is the enemy and everything must be in balance. Want a beer at the end of a shit day? Then don't have a chocky bar mid day. Want a cake? Eat it with morning coffee Gives the most time to burn it off. To burn it off you need to walk to the sandwich shop at lunch and not eat chips at the canteen!
- stabilize, through moderate exorcise and a few fewer snakes, one less biscuit and ten minutes more walking a day. most of us are probably only gaining a tiny amount but if like me it was over years. This is stabilizing. The first step.
- Introduce a deficit, Lift Weights, walk further eat some less. A combination of all these Not starving. Not suffering if you can do all three the benefits can be reaped.
- Learn to lift Long term it will help you to build toned muscle, you may not lose weight but may loose an inch of waist, Also health benefits are to be found. Dead lifts have cure my back ace!
- if you add a little muscle focused exorcise and don't expect instant changes, stick to the first step of maintenance eating
- Be patient, sudden shock diets don't really work, they lower your bodies energy requirement.
- Increase the calories your body needs to live, build good muscle. You don't need to be Eddie Hall but he knows how to lift. Get strong and you avoid hurting in the real world.
- Protein rich foods can make you feel full longer, drinking water can make you fell fuller, not filling on water, but keeping hydrated. Not everyone problem.
Summery - Step one stabilize add an evening dog walk or just a stroll.
- Muscle mass makes you look slimmer and also burns more calories
- Don't starve yourself it works against you
- Lift Weights burns calories whist you do and when you don't
- Don't eat more
BIG GuysIf you are really big; You are your own weights! Don't be silly, but if you youtube search starting strength and learn to squat with your own weight Look at the foot positioning, the body position and stand up from a chair. Keep your weight over the mid foot . Worst case is you get up from a chair less painfully.Learning to Squat | The Starting Strength Method : youtube search to learn the movements Squat to a stool avoid injury when you go down it gives a base to stop you going too far. Day 1 ONE SQUAT or sit and stand, for the really big ( don't be silly about it.) Day 2 TWO SQUAT or sit and stand, for the really big ( don't be silly about it. Day 3 THREE SQUAT or sit and stand, for the really big ( don't be silly about it. Get the idea? Get to reps can you do 3 of ten? There is no rush. Next and this one is for the really big guys, get an old shoe box you can crush, lift your leg over it, Not beinWorst case is you get up from a chair less painfully.g silly here but that can be hard. Step ups scare the hell out of me for the big guys as a fall can be life changing a shoe box step over is the leg lift and that is enough for step one. Once you are happy you can get mobile big guys get to a gym and singe up that is step two or three. You have begun the journey and whatever destination it is the reward. As you slim down do more standing but the gym should start you on slow walks with seated weights Cary on with your standing up from a chair. Go for it!
