It is a shame that online shopping is damaging so many retailers but at the same time if they were a little bit more competitive then people wouldn't be so quick to order online.
Toys r us comes as no surprise, the prices are ridiculous in comparison to other retailers

Maplin was a bubble waiting to burst. 5 shops within 30 mins drive of me, some of them in which I *never* saw another customer. It was sold and re-sold again and again over the last few decades, for increasingly inflated prices, until it was finally sold at a huge loss to the current lot and not surprisingly it didn't last. The guy who managed one of the local stores here didn't have a good word to say for the previous owners, they basically forced him out with a transfer to one of the new stores + a huge pay cut so he walked away instead. Hopefully they keep at least one of the local stores open in some form, I always found it handy for picking up stuff in a hurry. I've still got my old "Priority service card" from when it was mail order only back in the 80's.

I've still got my old "Priority service card" from when it was mail order only back in the 80's. Ive still got a few of the original voucher slips which you got from Maplin with every spend in the mid 1970's operating from their one shop in Westcliff-on-sea! I don't think i can cash them in anymore......
