Planning to take my Coupe on a long weekend trip to Zurich next month and am looking into breakdown cover?
My AA cover does extend to Europe and as the coupe is 19 years old, I am assuming getting cover could be difficult.
Any suggestions from those who have driven to Spa and the like recently?

Cheers
Mark

I find having cover for myself and passengers far easier to organise in comparison to cover for the coupe.
The cars age goes against it should you have a break down where you need the vehicle repatriated back to the UK so with personal cover there's no argument.

I think a lot of people choose Green Flag . I have read good reports about them.

Personal cover as opposed to a specific vehicle?
Which providers offer this Joe?

Green flag won't even cover the coupe in the UK, either as a car or an owner policy: found that out the hard way when it turned out that 'any vehicle you are driving' didn't include anything over fifteen years old.

*Every* common recovery service I have found restricts recovery now to 15 years old in the UK and often 10 years old overseas. As an added bonus, for most of them, if the car *in their opinion* is worth less than the cost of recovery overseas, they simply pay you that cost and take the car... read the small print carefully. I think Joe had that issue one year and it took a while to sort it out.

However, there are classic car recovery policies which *will* recover you, UK or overseas; I have one of those on the coupe.

It's a shame; over the last forty years or so Green Flag (I think they started out as 'red rover') have been excellent, and I still use them for the commuter cars. But since the industry changed to a formal insurance policy rather than a members' club, all the useful bits have mysteriously dropped out of the equation...

My cover is with the RAC again but bolted on to a Co-op current account, covers me and my passengers in the UK and Europe, used the cover in 2013 when Rocket Ronnie ate it's gearbox 2013 in Le Mans, car was repatriated without any argument.

Not sure who you are insured with, but Classic Line insurance include European breakdown cover. My dad needed it a few years ago, they shipped the car back to the UK and provided him with a car to continue his holiday. Just a bit of hassle swapping cars at the ferry - give car back, foot passenger, another car at Dover etc. Otherwise he was more than happy with the cover provided.
Swinton also do a European breakdown cover which you can pay for monthly and then cancel once you get back to Blighty (or at least they used to allow this a couple of years ago when I did it) I think it was £12 per month.

Cheers guys. smile
Based on your suggestions and a general online search, it seems I can get an extension to my cover with AA but with the proviso that it is subject to a market value clause.
Obviously, I am hoping it would not be needed but I would prefer to get the coupe back to blighty in the event of a breakdown.
It seems the cut-off age-wise for a number of insurers is 20 years, which my 98 coupe just sits the right side of.
