Specifically, why some of them can be bought for about £400, yet some are £2k and over? Daft to just assume the most expensive ones are better in some way, but does anyone know what makes one better than another (ie what am I looking for if I'm buying one?).
Also, what do you connect to it to make the most of the 4k-ness? I'm a proper film fanatic, so I want my movies to look nicer, but I heard somewhere that 'normal' blu ray players will still play at the same definition regardless. Is this true? If so, how do you get your films to look better? Sky Q perhaps?
Any advice most welcome!

Colour accuracy, contrast, backlight bleed, refresh rate, input lag, motion blur, connectivity, sound quality, 'smart' features, quality of materials, bezel size, stand quality, mounting options.
Blu ray can do 1080P. A higher definition version exists, you'll need a new player. Streaming services like Netflix or Amazon will provide more and more 4K content over time.

OK cheers guys. I definitely need to do some research. I was reading one of those "top ten" type articles and almost all of them had some kind of flaw.. not that I'm expecting perfect, but it would be good to know what would be the best option for the money I'm prepared to spend. The points re blu ray also noted thanks. I also heard elsewhere about that xbox thing, so I might look at one of those (though with already having Xbox one and PS4, both of which get approximately one hour's use a month, I can imagine my Mrs reaction already )

I always buy What TV, or What Audio Magazine, or some such thing when buying electronics. You only need a few issues to see what's what Always worked for me anyway. Plus I find them really interesting and lose myself in them for a few hours and they always manage to make me want to buy some gadget that I had never before even thought about ..... So maybe they're not such a good thing after all
