Thought I would give them a try so have set things in motion.

Superfast (up to 38mbps - we get about 18max) fibre broadband, line rental and unlimited phone calls. 18 month contract for £21 a month.

BT were wanting me to renew at about £37 a month for similar broadband, line rental and weekend calls only. 12 month contract, old one is expiring next month.

Looks to be a no-brainer, but would be pleased to hear any experiences of their broadband service.

Thanks

No idea about the broadband and phone but, for electricity, they have been catastrophic. Good luck.

You might like to know that numbers three and four on SSE's 'Top 5 Safety Rules' are 'question everything' and 'always reverse park'.

They have an outpost in the floor beneath us at the office...

I've just signed up with them too but for their 'Ultra' fast 72mbps service as it was the same price as 'Super'. Also used topcashback & will be getting £77 cash back as a bonus. Time will tell if they live up to their claims.

BT, King of sharp practice.

My 12 month contract with them expires an 27th July and has been paid for until then.

Despite that, BT emailed me that as SSE were taking over on 21st July, I was considered to be ending my contract early so would have to pay them more.

Quote:
As you've got equipment from BT, you'll need to pay:
• £65.00 for broadband equipment charges
and
Quote:
Charges for ending your contract early
As you're moving before the end of your contract, you'll need to pay a charge for each month left of your minimum term. We expect this to be £2.96 by the time you move.

So the obvious thing to do was to put the change over date back to the 27th and cancel their DD.

This has now been done.

Why the hell can't they use their brains and see that all it achieves is to piss off a customer who will then spread the word.

Short sighted by BT rolleyes

I've received my welcome pack & modem from SSE, plus a 'sorry you're leaving' e-mail from Sky but as I'm way out of contract there's no charges. The email made me smile when it referenced 'best broadband' and 'most competitive package' compared to other providers...yeah, right-o laugh

Letter from BT today, dated 4th July.

"What happens next?"
"We'll stop your BT phone line on 15 June..."

They've already sent, and had paid, the final bill.

I got a text from BT today saying I would have to pay them £67.96 for leaving BT.

This despite a phone conversation yesterday.

Corporate idiots.

Had to put the brakes on mine unfortunately; received a letter yesterday confirming the engineer appointment for Thurs 28th July but as that's a working day I won't be at home (I live on my own, no friends or family able to do it either). Rang to request a Saturday but they will only do Mon-Fri, so I'm stuck (I can't take holiday until October) and have no choice but to tell them to knock the whole thing on the head. The chap at SSE didn't seem bothered, just going through the motions and offered no apology or alternative suggestions, disappointing.

I'm still battling with the BT idiots, who are still trying to charge me extra for not renewing my 12 month contract, even though it has all been paid for.
DD was cancelled by me last week to stop them having any more of my money.

Bollocks phone call from them on Wednesday threatening all sorts of dire happenings, followed up by an email yesterday from
Quote:
Thanks for choosing BT.
Libby Barr
Managing Director, Customer Care
informing me that THEY had cancelled my DD, but I could still reinstate it.

A "BT can whistle through their collective foreskins" email has been sent in reply.

Email Libby Barr direct (something like Libby.barr@bt.com). The ONLY way to get anything done at BT is to escalate.

Guess what.

SSE went ahead and did the switch today, 21st July, leaving me open to BT enforcing their penalty charge.

I have told SSE that they can pay as it was their mistake.

However, broadband download speed is about 40% faster than it was from BT using the same lines and for much less money.

BT and Openreach have just had a public "dissing" in Parliament exhorting them to get their act together.

Several phone providers are offering super-fast broadband packages whose claimed download speeds are impossible to achieve because BT has failed to upgrade their lines to fibre-optic.

Although TalkTalk has its own "bugs" I have never regretted ditching BT.

I had brain failure a year ago when I went back to BT after having left them years before when they stopped having a monopoly. The deal they were offering at the time seemed reasonable.

Never again, they could not even offer a decent deal to keep me as a customer.

I currently have Extra Energy being dragged through the Energy Ombudsman Service, perhaps BT should be going through the telecoms equivalent next.

Thanks Richard, that email address certainly exists, I've just used it.

They emailed me twice today, once to tell me my final bill was ready, the other to let me know about my "service upgrade... we're giving you something special"
I assume it was the opportunity for a right royal shafting.

Let's see if she responds.

Thanks Richard,

I got an email almost immediately from BT's Fiona Ward who works for their Executive Level Complaints; BT Consumer, saying they would be in contact with me no later than Monday.

I just had a phone call from them to discuss the matter. They ended up by agreeing that I should not have to pay these charges and that they would cancel them.

I have now received an email confirming that my account has been credited with the disputed amount.

Result.
