so iv done a bit of research and it would seem you can take a standard coupe straight to 260bhp with a simple remap.
my question is to get any further up towards 300bhp is it replacement turbo time? i know you have to stick an uprated fuel pump on there and another remap for it - how straight forward is it to swap over the turbo if i was to get a gt28r turbo?
cheers.

It's not just a turbo swap to hit the 300 Bhp mark . Their are a few other bits that I would install to help the car be safe .
Full health check before starting any work . Gt28r or stage 3 hybred turbo Front mount intercooler Fuel pump wiring mod 3.8bar fuel pressure regulator straight induction pipe cone filter Uprated discs and pads FC performance remap
No need to change the fuel pump at this stage .

Plus, to make it perfect, a stronger clutch, some boost controller (manual or electronic), better than OEM DV, 2.5" exhaust, decat, boost gauge, for a gt28r you will need either a 5-bolt down pipe or a 5-bolt to v-bad adaptor + oil feed line, oil return flange. Fitting is simple, you reuse the water lines, bolts and nuts , thou, you might want to get new ones.

So you need to drill for an oil feed for the gt28r turbo?? Or is there already original oil feeds for the standard turbo?

Are the oil lines already in place on the standard turbo?

What sort of cost would you be talking if you did all of those mods, parts and labour? Plus, how confident would you be about buying a 20vt already running over 300bhp, but with the correct parts, and decent history?

It's like asking how long is a piece of string.
Coupes are old cars now and unless you allready own a standard coupe 20vt in tip top condition it's going to cost a fair few quid to get it there before any mods. So if it were me hoping to get to 300 hp I would need a coupe that is very sound first. So that's the first estimate needed.
Then to get to a state of tune of 300hp I imagine another 2,500 pounds. But it's only a ballpark figure to be honest as there is so much more you can do to improve the car. But it all comes at a cost.
I have spent over 3 times the figure above to get 300 hp but mine is a track car so its a different thing.

Great info, thanks. I think finding a quality, clean, standard car would be the way forward. Just need to keep saving, and talk the wife into it....

Going from 342bhp to 416bhp, I spent a LOT money preparing the car. Then, after the big spend on the engine, there was the extra cost of all those parts that were OK at the previous power level, but suddenly they can't cope anymore... I had gearbox, driveshaft and several engine mounts all go soon after. One of the engine mounts was an uprated example and less than a year old and that died too...

That's my dilema!
I'd like upwards of 300 bhp so do I spend the couple of grand on my coup to reach these sorts of figures or do I trade the coupe in with a couple of grand and get something like this:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/audi/s4_avant/postcode/np206qf/radius/1500/quicksearch/true/price-from/500/price-to/7500/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew
???

That's not even a Coupe, any Coupe ! If is just a 300HP car you want then buy the Audi Avant . It's much simpler.

??? Basildoncope on here used to have a 20vT. He's just bought an S4 like that so might be able to give a direct comparison. He doesn't post on here any longer but I'm sure I could persuade him

Love my coup too much at the moment but, if I ever fancy a change, an S4 would definately be top of my list for my next weekend "toy" They just tick a lot of boxes. A lot of car for the money Good looks Plenty of performance Fantastic V8 sound Nearly as quick as an RS4 at half the price

B8 S4 3 litre supercharger with a stage 1 map pushing 408 BHP beats a B7 RS4 hands down A lovely car but certainly not cheap, even at half the price. I bought a 6MT 11 plate in 2015 with all the toys for 23k

Never have 2 cars been different

What's the magic attraction of 300bhp? If you just want that much power, the easiest option is to buy something that offers it as standard. But it might not feel any more enjoyable than the Coupe with 220. My Maserati has 370bhp, and it's certainly much more powerful than my Coupe, but that doesn't make it a better car, just different. I enjoy the Coupe's lesser performance just as much. Having the Maser did make me reconsider tuning the Coupe - I was thinking of modifying it but I decided to leave it standard because it feels lovely as it is, and I didn't want to spoil its character chasing another 50bhp or so. I'd say that the danger of tuning any car to more than say 30% above their original output is that you end up with something that's not actually very nice to drive. So what I'm saying is it's not the bhp number that matters - its whether you like the style of the car.

I still can't believe how much better my coupe drove after the 260 live remap you did for me last year Leighton. It was fun to drive before but I never expected how that exta 40 bhp would transform the car. Thoroughly impressed
