Disproportionately shocked to hear of David Bowie's death. I think I assumed he would live forever.
Along with Lennon and Elvis, one of the most influential and significant (white, English-speaking) artists to die in my lifetime.

Edited for clarification!

Another icon to cancer too. The music industry is much less colourful place without him.
At least they are surviving the drugs / aids / alcohol that killed so many of their piers though and he lived to see his last album released, I'm now wondering if he's done a Freddie and put a message on the end of a final recording.

An enourmous loss.

I was discussing with a friend just before Christmas the "huge deaths" we would probably live through.

Bowie was the first name we both said.

RIP David.

The old cliches fit with him. An icon and a legend.

Bowie was a true legend, a big part of my youth, had the hair & colour spray. One of the few heroes I looked up to. Never new he had cancer either.

This is really sad news for the music industry.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

It is a sad day indeed. Myself and the other half were only watching Labyrinth last night so waking up to hear this was some what of a shock to the both of us.

Yes - I wasn't much of a Bowie fan directly but I totally understand the massive impact the man has had on the creative arts and I, too, was shocked by the news.

After seeing an advert for his new album yesterday and thinking he was looking rather ill I'm truly shocked to know he's passed away this morning.

RIP David Bowie, very sad news frown

Sad and shocking news indeed. shocked
The recent launch of our own Major (Tim) made me think of Bowie and how good some of his stuff really is.

Agree with all the above. A total shock and the loss of a great man. 1st single I bought was Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. He was a real game changer who never accepted boundaries. He will be truly missed frown

If you listen to Ziggy Stardust or Hunky Dory, much of the records sound absolutely fresh and up-to-date. Towering works. After that, I liked individual songs, but not whole albums in the same way.
However, his sheer creativity made him a unique force in music.

Very sad to hear these news. He was a little bit before my time (certainly my parents were big fans), but I still grew up listening to many of his songs. To me he will always be Jareth from Labyrinth which I've watched more times than I could remember.

It doesn't seem long ago that in my early years of going to (or trying to get into) pubs, we would have a few cheeky beers round a friends house and listen to ziggy stardust as loud as possible. Its actually 20 years ago though.

Every day I feel blessed to have been a teenager in the 70s. A great period for popular music and Bowie was top of the pile for a lot of people.

As all music means something to someone, I have great memories of my pals and I dancing the night away in our local village disco to Bowie sounds.

R.I.P. David.

Absolute legend. I listened to at least one track of his every week. Not ashamed to say I was a mixed up New Romantic in the early 80's and aspired to and was inspired by him.........RIP cry

Yes the "Thin White Duke" was an inspiration to many artists, a Chamelion of the music industry, very unique and innovative, I'm sure Major Tom will be on the Prettiest Star.

Hunky Dory is probably my favourite album, ever.
