Can I put a turbo kit into my 16v 1.8 Coupe? #1552134

I was wondering how to make my Coupe quicker.
It has Lovato LPG+petrol system. So is it possible to install a 16v 2.0 turbo into my 16v 1.8?
Or just chip it?

Not many people can remap the Hitachi ECU, especially the newer one. My coupe was originally 1.8 and I had the same dilemma. My biggest mistake was that I first started to modify the 1.8 engine. I made a custom exhaust, supersprint manifold, some head work, remap and the final result was not so satisfying. Then I decided that I will make a turbo engine swap. So I bought a hit 16VT coupe for donor and the conversion begun. You need a complete car for donor because there are so many different things(hubs, driveshafts, steering rack, rod ends, fuel pump, water radiator and many many others). There is a lot of work on the wiring loom and if you want to have a working air condition there is a lot of custom work on the system(pipes, sensors and etc.) The 1.8 and 16VT air conditioning systems are quite different. The cheapest way for a faster coupe is to sell that one and buy a turbo one.

Thank you for your answer!
So is there an other way, which may boost my cars performance ??
Chiptuning for example ??
I already have a sport air-filter. I'm planning on a sport exhaust as well, Remus probably.

Hi,

I have also Stilo 1.8 16V with Hitachi ECU as daily car

this ECU (euro 4) can be remmaped, as Alientech provide suitable HW to connect with this ecu, but their software - ECM I think is rubbish...there are few companies who realy can remmap it...

for modification:

I´m also dissapointed with performance of my 1.8..

so first mod I did were the cams from Alfa romeo 1.8/2l TS..these have bigger lift (9,5mm instead of 9mm Intake -8,5mm exhaust) and by 12°longer duration.. then 4-2-1 manifold from AR GTV without cat and rest of exhaust with 54mm OD (std is 45mm) and some head work...

my next step was 2l stroker kit with utilisation of internals from 2l TS (crankshaft) and stilo abarth (pistons) and modified 1.8 block

still running stock ECU but bigger injectors from Coupe 16V and fuel rail from AR 147 1.6 TS ECO.

I was also planning to turbocharge it - in case of STilo its quite easy (instead of ECU) - headers from 16V JTD, turbo maybe from Kappa 16VT, rest of piping and IC from JTD (in case of coupe rest from 16/20VT),

the 1.8 in coupe/stilo is nice, light engine.. I would work on it.. 2L conversion is not easy, but you will get 20V perfomance (> 150bhp) in slightly lighter car with better gearing

It's not worth it to make any mods to that engine, in the best scenario you will gain up to 15-20hp, but you will spend a lot money to do that. You can install Alfa Romeo 2.0TS cams, some head work, custom exhaust but it's not worth the money.. As I told you the chiptuning for that ECU is serious problem and makes any other mods pointless.

Was thinking about something like this. I'm not disappointed with the performance, just want more torgue and acceleration.
For me it would be worth even if it'sonly 15-20 extra horsepower.

i agree with Honza for mods, i already change the exhaust
on some 1.8 16v modifying the central silencer with carbon kevlar
and straight 54mm tube until the end ,it makes lots of difference
in torque and the car is way faster in corners and in road with low speed bends
the turbo engine is good for straight road and it gives you smile
when the turbo kick in but if you drive the same road i said above
against a 1.8 16v with smart mods you could be slower....

so 10bhp could be easily revealed by putting 1.8-2l TS camshafts ( you can get both wery cheaply - in my case both cost me 30euro..)

you will in fact mechanically get TS engine without second set of spark plugs...so something around 144bhp with modified fuelling (sometimes you can only increase fuel pressure, or by adjusting fuel maps..)
