Luckily I have chosen Turkey to go to in 2 months time rolleyes, can't beat a nice country with such a peaceful religion to spend my leisure time at. Just waiting for the odd dolmus bombing or bazaar blast to make the next 8 weeks of waiting even more enjoyable. laugh

Makes it worthwhile though as the t-shirts, shorts, watches, fags and meals are very cheap, certainly outweighs the possibility of being shipped home in pieces.

Can't wait now !

I think, statistically, you're probably still at a significantly greater risk from non-Islamist locals in the USA or South Africa, for example. Not to mention the risk of being killed at home in car accidents.

Perhaps we don't need to over-sensationalise?

Best stay away from the Express paper headlines then, wonder what scaremongering they will come up with tomorrow and the coming weeks!

Interesting that a thread has been created about this but there wasn't one on the Charleston shootings.

Nothing particularly strange about that, Ali. Quite a few newsworthy events are passed by on here. Depends if someone actually on here feels the urge to start a thread.

In line with that though, what a superb example of true Christian beliefs. I would not have been so forgiving.

I think most people can relate to lying on a beach on holiday at some point in their life!

I'm curious; are you covetous of their ability to forgive, or confirmed in your suspicion that they must be deluded?

I'm not getting at you, RK. Just interested in how people think.

Neither, Brian. I am what I am, and I'm very comfortable with that. If one of mine had been a victim I'd have happily administered the death penalty myself.

What I do respect is that people who have been wronged, are still following their beliefs. Even if it's not a belief I personally share. I will point out that their choice is for the good, ISIS are following their beliefs and I have nothing but contempt for them. So it could be argued I'm being selective wink

Well one isolated incident of a white supremacist is rare even in the states . With Isis and all the other nutters seems like it happens nearly every week and one would say it a threat to us all in every country even shite Muslims .

I am in Tunisia as I type this, 1 week into a 2 week holiday. We're about 10k up the coast from where the attacks happened yesterday.

Within the hotel here there is an awful lot of people who, in my opinion, are being over dramatic, demanding to be shipped home immediately, demanding a police precense at the hotel, demanding the hotel lock down and generally taking it very badly.

It was bizarre yesterday whilst laying on the bed by the pool and thinking that 10k up the beach other people had been doing exactly the same thing, but due to some evil people their day and life ended very differently to mine.

My thought now is to try and enjoy the rest of the holiday and put this to the back of our minds, not easy I'm sure as am with the family, so their safety is of upmost importance to me. But being totally pragmatic, we're here, there has been no mention of a general evacuation, so I assume we will be here for the next week too and we can either spend that week locked in our rooms or spend it by the pool. By being sensible and not going to the beach, not leaving the resort and keeping tabs on the family at all times we should be able to enjoy the rest of the holiday.

So I'm hoping it will be, for me, another story to tell the grandkids of how terrorism has shaped this world and my life, but nothing more than that. But my heart felt sympathy goes to those just up the road who can't tell that story or have a very different one to tell..

Good to hear you're OK Jim. Those demanding to go home will no doubt expect compo for "having to cut their holiday short".

Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

And that's what I suspected.

For some, the thought of white people being shot by brown people is more horrifying than the thought of black being shot by a white person.

Absolutely nothing to do with colour . As a christian i feel for the people of charlston NOTHING TO DO WITH COLOUR . I am very surprised you would make a comment like this without ever meeting me or my views on the topic . One white person as oppossed to an entire organisation . Plot busted to target Lee Rigby unit about 8 miles from me http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/...rces-day-parade

If you took that to be pointed directly at you then perhaps that says more about you than me.

Rob, the original comment was because you mis-typed Shiite/Shia.
