Got a HD tv with built in Freeview but can't stream anything like iplayer. So looking to get a dongle thing to enable WiFi connection. So what do people recommend? Heard of Chromecast but not sure what is best to get. Any advice welcome.

Er, it is a smart tv? If so, is your router too far away or has your provider only got it turned up to 3? Try an ethernet cable? Edit: Just looked this up and realised I'm off the mark here

I returned the Chromecast we bought - could not get the damn thing to work on our LG TV. Ours was a 4.5 year old TV so early'ish smart screen but Google decided to update the software interface that pushed YouTube and the like to older LG screens meaning they are virtually redundant. Rubbish all round really..........

Cool. I should have been clear. We have a Panasonic Viera HD but doesn't have built in wi fi connection, so in the past, we've plugged my laptop into it to watch iplayer. So need a device to connect the TV to the web.
Chromecast seemed to be one option, but heard conflicting reports.
Heard Roku are good too

Ok we have 2 apple Tvs and 3 Chromecasts, I prefer the Chromecasts . BUT for your smart tv try these, Powerline adapters. Plug one into your router and a nearby 13 amp plug socket and the other into a plug socket near your TV, connect the supplied Ethernet cables (Router to plug 1 then TV to plug 2) and Voila one working Smart TV Basically they use your house's electrical cabling as a wired connection for your Internet etc. They are plug and play and achieve good speeds (avoid placing them next to electrically "Noisy" devices or on a trailing socket if you can for the best performance. More info Ignore the 500Mbps they have 10/100 (Fast Ethernet) so the best you will get is around 90Mbps but that will be enough for TV If they dont work for you (and I will be surprised if they dont) , send them back to Amazon for a full refund

Interestingly I found that my Chromecast was creating interference on some of my Freeview terrestrial channels.
