Basically I'm building a forged bottom end for my
Bravo .. 20vt .... Once the bottom end has been lightened and balanced what's the recommended rev limit on a standard head with forged bottom end. Head work is being done when funds allow as I have a spare head.
Also do most folks use standard oil pump ?
Thanks guys

The first limiting factor would be the hydraulic tappets that 20VTs have. As rpm rises, the oil would get pumped out of them until the valves cease to open. However the limit for this is still pretty high - over 8000 rpm.

However, whether the rpm limiter needs to be that high is a different matter! The actual limit I would set the limiter at would depend on what rpm the engine makes peak power. I would usually set the limiter anywhere up to 7.5k depending on the engine spec and it's intended use. Maybe more, just depends smile

I agree with KJ - your choice of rev limit will probably be based on the turbo you've specced

When I ran a GT2871, power was tailing off after 7,000rpm, so the limiter was set at about 7,000. When I had the GT3071 fitted, it was still pulling strongly at 7,000, so the limit has been raised to 7,500

Both turbos were 0.64AR - the bigger 0.86AR turbine housings would make more power at the top end, so the rev limit could be moved higher
