Ok, I know I should do a bit of research rolleyes
But it keeps conversation alive wink
I've ordered a set of MTECH drilled discs front and back for the Coupe, so as to make it look more original than the 3G grooved discs I have on there at the moment. I have Pagid Black pads in place at the moment, but they will come out with the discs when swapped.
What are my options for a low dust (preferably) brake pad for front and back?
Also, I could do without an orchestra of mice being squished each time I slow down wink
Thoughts please..........?

where did you get the discs from? All I can find is the grooved and drilled. Just want the drilled but not the Brembo prices

For just fast road driving I've been happy with both the EBC green's and yellows not the cheapest but still cheaper than some of the more track focused stuff

Rich,
As Dean says, MTECH direct. And plump for the "drilled" option on the order page. I also wanted the black powder coat finish to keep them looking smart. It's an extra £25 for the set (front and back) but rusty discs is one of my pet dislikes wink
I phoned them up and spoke to them to place the order. I'm not sure if you can add the "Black Edition" onto the order for these discs via the website?
I did try to get a further 10% off being a FCCUK member, but she wasn't having it! She'd already applied a 10% discount on as per the offer on the website "New10". They'll arrive early next week smile

I have MTECH grooved discs and did have EBC Yellows. I found them a bit wooden when cold and they didn't have the hard bite that I thought I liked, they seemed very soft, but maybe that's what "progressive" is? I had them in when I went to Turin last year but was very apprehensive going over the Stelvio Pass and driving around the 'Ring on the way back, it just didn't feel like they were working, I had to press the pedal really hard and din't feel confident at all, however they were pretty quiet, and I think pretty dust free.

I changed to OMP Racing and they have a much "harder" feel with more bite, more likely to make your passengers worry about going through the windscreen. However they are perhaps a bit harsh, I can feel every groove in the disc when braking hard, and at Spa last year the vibrations were ridiculous.

I never had this problem with Pagids (grey or blue) and 3G or TarOx and whatever other discs and pads I've had before, and I've had grooved discs virtually since new (changed the discs the first time the pads needed changing, must have been in 1997).

And the OMP Racing pads squeal more than the EBC Yellows which were pretty quiet, but if you pussy foot around with gentle braking I reckon you can make any disc/pad combination squeal. And I also had refurbed brembos on last year, that of course helps to reduce squealling.

I thought I'd try EBC Yellows after seeing a few favourable reviews, I'm not sure they're the pad for me, but I know that nismo has them and is happy and he was braking pretty hard at Spa! Once the OMP's have worn down I'll stick the EBC Yellows back in, but next time I will consider Pagid Blue again, or maybe Ferodo DS2500 which I have never tried.

It's largely a personal choice and is influenced by your choice of disc (plain, grooved and/or drilled) and your braking style, as well as the state of your brembos and the fluid/hoses. As they say in the States, YMMV! smile

What's wrong with Pagid black again? If you want a harder pad, Pagid blue. They're expensive but very long-lasting, and no worse than anything else for squeal.

At first my yellow stuff and MTECH combination was great. Now they feel like Dave described. Initially I put it down to the car being parked up over the winter and thought giving them a hammering would bring them back, no luck though.

I was tempted to try the OMP Road and Sport pad but am struggling to find them.

Anybody had any experiance of:

EBC Ultimax2
Tarox Strada 112
Ferodo Premiere
Brembo Sport
OMP Fast Road & Sport

I'm erring towards the OMP. I doubt I will do any major track sessions, but I do enjoy a sprited drive wink So repeated major slows from max velocity is unlikely, but I do enjoy threading a good route down the road. Unless of course you come along an obstacle with 4 legs and a rider round a blind corner just pottering along grr
Then I will need to STOP!!! From cold.
Thanks for your thoughts smile

If you can get the OMP pads as cheap as Nick could in the group buy which didn't really take off, I'd say they were worth a try.

I have used ebc ultimax2 with the alfa 166/kappa 20vt 4 pot brembo calipers. These pads were cheap, they stop well from cold and can handle some spirited driving. Only downside is that they are squeaky if not fitted with shims at the back of the pad...

Now I am using Ebc yellowstuff and to be honest I am not impressed...

Thanks for the feedback digitalundgrd
Ok, building up a picture of what's out there. I recieved the discs today, they look nice in black, even better when they are a shiny and black combo.
I have looked into the EBC Yellowstuffs, and I'm not getting a great deal of positive vibes form other forums searched confused

While I was into my trackdays and runway speed events, I always used Pagid Yellow - completely un-fazed no matter what I threw at them

Once I sent the Sprinty to the crusher, and realised that I wouldn't be doing trackdays any more, I decided on Ferodo DS2500. For fast road use, they have been superb - they've lasted ages, aren't too dusty and don't squeal (at all)

Last year, I had the chance to take part in Asda's "On Your Marks" charity day at Bruntingthorpe - basically an entire day of taking paying passengers round the track, including a blast down the runway.

On the first sighting lap, I was a little concerned at the lack of bite and was fully expecting to get fade at the end of the runway. However, 25-30 runs later (each involving a monster brake from 150+ down to 60-ish), they were still biting hard without fade. The discs didn't fare quite as well - MTEC grooved became gradually noisier throughout the day and ended up very grumbly indeed by the end of the day, to the point where it felt like the section of disc between each groove had become tapered - a kind of saw-tooth effect. However, they didn't warp, which for a cheap, un-treated disc is absolutely amazing. To give an idea of how much abuse was dished out, one of my plastic wheel centres melted and fell out....

So - after many years of throwing £500+ at front brake setups (Pagid Yellow plus DBA wiper slot), my current recommendation for fast road work and the occasional trackday is now Mtec plus Ferodo DS2500

I have MTEC discs and EBC yellow stuff pads on my 16VT. The yellowstuff are ineffective when they are cold and when they've warmed up they are not so good either. In a distance of 5km I made 4 stops from 200-220km/h to 70-80km/h and then one stop from 100km/h to 0 and the pads start to smoke and my brake efficiency was totally lost....When I do the alfa 166 Brembo conversion, I will try the CL brake pads.

I've used MTEC in the past with yellow stuff pads to great effect on the road and on track. Not sure if it's applicable with fiat yellowstuffs but make sure you get the yellow stuff "r" pad.

I think the Yellowstuff worked for road or semi-tracks like Nurburgring, but driven hard on proper trackdays they just wiffed away - never bought them again. Then had Carbotech XP8 (great) and then Performance Friction pfc08 (even greater).
All with the same MTEC disc's.

EBC Ultimax2 - are ok +\-
Tarox Strada 112 - ?
Ferodo Premiere - ?
Brembo Sport - ?
OMP Fast Road & Sport - difficult to source, unless you order from Poland
EBC Yellowstuff - no

I have Ferodos on the front of my Forester with Alcon brake set-up. They are impressive, so I might give the Premier' a try. Anybody running these as a set?
I have to say, that I'm struggling to justify spending around £200 for a set of brake pads! There is little chance I'll be doing a major track session any time soon, so road driving is the focus really. Just don't want to be left wanting coming up onto a roundabout at speed! The fluid has been recently changed, which did make a huge difference around Spa smile

Back end of April for the OMP pads to reappear I am told by more than one source, YBRacing and GPRDirect.

Yellow stuff + m-tec are pants. I had Brembo drilled with Brembo pads before and they were great.

I destroyed a set of pads, road use only, in around 8k miles. No feed back and to be honest I lost confidence in them. They were also the most squealing things on earth!
I've kept the discs, although very noisy and opted for Brembo pads. They are totally night and day, oh and no break squeal!

That's interesting, the two sets of Yellows I've had never squealed. In fact they were only pad I've ever had that didn't squeal on the coupe.
The first set I had were amazing, even from cold. The second were too untill the car was left parked up for a long period of time. ie not much use in a year or two.

As i said, it interesting. Peoples experiences seem to differ massively even with the same kit!

As I posted earlier it may be that some folks had yellowstuff and others had yellow stuff "r" pads. There is a big difference.

Also there is a very strict bedding in procedure that you must adhere to.

I have never seen Yellowstuff "R" pads offered instead of or as well as plain Yellowstuff, are there any vendors, or is the "R" the (yellow!) stuff of legend?

I bought DP41031R front for £130 and DP41214R rear for £50 back in Dec 2013 from ZenSport/Rude Racing but they don't seem to sell them any more (Larkspeed prices are similar). The part number has "R" at the end, but I don't think I have the packaging any more to see whether it says "R" on it.

There's certainly no "R" mentioned on www.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk and also they also show Ultimax and not Ultimax2...

I think I may try the DS2500, they are cracking in my clio 182, a completely different car though!

I've found them for a good price too, a fella from the Clio Sport forum. He said he would sort further discount for a few of us but i think we would fail to drum up the numbers. It may be best for the odd individual to contact him directly at george@roadtrackraceparts.com.

Certainly not legend. Ive used both. The pads that used to be available without the R were downright dangerous. The "R" is referred to in the actual pad number. For example rear 20vt pads are.....

FIAT Coupe 2.0 20v Turbo 1996-2000 EBC Rear Yellowstuff Brake Pads DP41214R

It does look as though they are not selling any pads without the designated R these days though.
