Went into work for my early shift yesterday at 5am. At half seven a colleague said that she had seen an ambulance outsidey mum and dad's house. I knew it was something serious straight away and phoned my mum. No answer. I only work round the corner so I drove there and although nobody was home, my dads meds were scattered all over the floor. It was then I knew. My brother called me a minute later 'Bad news I'm afraid, Dad died this morning' I drove to A+E and we were took to a quiet room where my mum, sister and two brothers were. He was there on the bed. He just looked like he was asleep. I half expected him to start snoring but I held his hand and it was icy cold. He'd woke up at half five and said he felt a little out of breath. His last words were 'come on love, lets go back to bed' and he just keeled over. My mum tried CPR but she said she knew he was dead, his eyes were just staring. An autopsy today confirmed ischaemic heart disease was the cause. He'd had scares in the past so it wasn't a shock, just very sudden. I'd been round for lunch the day before and we discussed the Chelsea V Liverpool game. He'd put money on a draw and Chelsea had scored in the 93rd minute! I said tara and thats the last words I'd ever speak to him. Still feels like I'm in a dream world, grief hits me in waves then I feel as normal. He was an amazing dad and I'm glad to have had him as my old man. I guess what I want to say is if you have fell out with your dad or don't see him, make the effort because you never know when it could be your last together. RIP Barry Baker

Sorry to hear that mate - I lost my lovely Dad 12 years ago now - still miss him terribly and think about him every day. You always think your parents are going to be there forever. Hopefully at peace and watching you with a pint..

My sympathy, Matt. It was clear that you always had a great deal of love and respect for your dad, and it is going to be hard for some time to accept the loss. Look after your mum.

Condolences to you and your family. I dread the day it happens to me. My Dad had cancer at 57 and from then on I made sure family came first as time is so precious. Try and remember the good times.
