I have a home made guitar that i have almost finished, just needs a bit of fettling and spraying but cant bring myself to strip it down again

Does anybody do this professionally on here its been in this state for 2 years now and sounds really sweet especially when somebody else plays it laugh

It really deserves to be finished off!
I want it doing in a clear amber top and cherry back as it is a Pensa Suhr MK replica could not afford the real thing well especially not now with a coupe to maintain

Anybody have any recomendations aside of setting fire to it prefferably in the Minlands area Northants

Cheers Rich

Can't help any, but would really like to see how you get on. I've always liked the idea of a home build.

Thanks for the recommendations folks but I'm nowhere near professional Luthier status blush . I'm just kinda learning as I go along and I've only done one guitar so far, my own wee tribute to Eddie Van Halen's Bumble Bee cool and even that was just basically flung together!

Looking forward to seeing some pics of your guitar Rich though if you can get it done, sorry I can't be of help.

Cheers for the replies! Looks Great Baz! i was going to do this in a Van Halen style if it did not turn out too good and needed lots of filler etc. but its turned out really nice considering it is my very first attempt never done another one since but fancy doing the Prince Cloud guitar next or a flying V hmmm we will see! to many other things going on and not enough time really!
Guitar is looking a bit grubby at the mo i will get the super fine wire wool out to clean it up a bit and upload some pictures later on tonight hopefully

Cheers Rich thumb

Here we go! did not have time to clean off 2 years of grime on untreated wood but should look nice when finally painted!
Its a carved top not easy to show without a glossy finish its also tiger striped maple but two halves joined together for a one piece it was silly money but the 3 planks from the USA cost £21 plus about £60 postage and tax and i have enough to do another neck, the back is old mahogany which was £40 again to halves
Just need to smooth off a few bits and tidy up the acetone edging in one place may need to totally come off and do it again? problem is i cant bring myself to do it in case i F*@k it up!

Just found the original guitar that inspired my path into guitars

This is a Maple Flame top which i wanted to do, but to get a nice usable piece of wood in one bit was seriously silly money hence i went for tiger stripe Maple
Cheers Rich

That looks a superb job you've done there Rich cool . One day I'll hopefully be able to build my own guitar from scratch like that.

Lovely job.!! Do you actually want to paint it or put a clear coat of some sort on it? Seems a shame to cover up the wood. If it's a clear coat, maybe a furniture builder/restorer could help.

Its an Amber clear coat im after to highlight the maple and make the stripes "pop" as they say in the guitar world! so it should end up similar to the last photo!

Just thought I'd update this with another one of my guitar projects that I've finished, my Eddie Van Halen "Frankenstrat"

Currently working on another one of Eddie's guitars, his Ibanez Destroyer that became known as "The Shark" after he cut a big chunk out of it!

Looking good Baz!

still haven't got my finger out yet!

I will update when i get it done but im guessing it will be summertime hopefully

Quite fancy a RR1 flying V at the moment! been having a bit of a Meatloaf re-visit and just love the Bob Kulick leads
Quite pricey now surely a collectable!

Just have to make one instead lol
