My daughter has been asked by a budding F1 site to blog. Since she's really interested in social media (it's part of her degree too), she's doing a different take on F1 a bit

http://f1reflection.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/letsgotweeting.html

Have a read and see what you think. Constructive critique here would be nice too.

It's good. Seems well-researched and informed and isn't afraid of an opinion. Refreshingly well-written, too.

Maybe some development (about how teams manage "associated" driver, engineer, PR Twitter accounts and even some very popular fakes) might have been interesting. Plus the involvement or lack of it of the FIA and its officials (Fake Charlie Whiting, for example, is good value).

Of course, I understand it's a short article, with limited scope for that much depth, so it's not really a criticism.

I'm impressed.

Thanks, Jim - helpful critique. She plans a series of blogs on different aspects of F1 and social media so your thoughts are really interesting and helpful too. She wants to avoid the common themes (Hamilton vs Rosberg, accidents etc etc) and bring some different angles. Your ideas are great and I will pass them on if that's OK?

Here, Rich, are we looking at the output of a twenty-year-old or so there? Very nicely written (and only one grammar mistake leapt out at me!) - well done indeed.

One criticism is that it wasn't long enough - I'd have liked to have seen her answer to the question she poses at the end of the piece.

19 years old a couple of weeks ago. Ooh, I didn't spot one - I must go back and look.

Thanks. Good feedback too. Maybe she needs to flag a "Next Time: we will look at...."

Very impressive high quality stuff, good angles, informative and a lot better than some so called professional journalists in the tabloids and broadsheets

I enjoyed reading it but am not really in a position to give constructive criticism as i could never string that many sentences together!

I agree it is very impressive although maybe she could limit the use of brackets? Aside from that, it is very readable which is the most important thing.

"The team appears to not take themselves too seriously"

Either of

- The team <members> appear to not take themselves too seriously
- The team appears to not take itself too seriously

It's a quantity disagreement; team is singular; them is plural. We won't mention the split infinitive as that's a matter of preference anyway.

Plurals and sports teams is/are a can of worms.

It is one of those situations where the "correct" rule simply does not apply.

Sheffield United were outclassed, never was outclassed.

England lost the Ashes because they were dreadful, never it.

Contrasts with US English when referring to sports teams.

Yeah, each of those examples has subsumed <the members of> into the common usage.

Nice blog, rather un-incredibly, lots of "credible" statements, and nothing incredible (I had to re-read some bits, I must be getting old)

Thanks all. She's very happy because it's now "most read" blog on the site smile

Her ideal job would be to be a PA/PR person to one of the F1 drivers. I think she'd actually be great at it.

Eve's very happy. She's been promoted to the main site. In fact, she's the only one of the trial contributors to have done so. They're closing that feeder site and her and 3 editors are moving to F1connection

<cough>she and three editors</cough>

You don't want to be teaching her bad habits, do you, Rich?

<grin, duck, run!>

Well done, Eve!

She gets her humour, intelligence and good looks from me. That learned English stuff she get from her mum. After all, I is a engineer wink

Besides, shouldn't it also be "so to have done"?
