Thinking of selling my mini cooper for a 06-07 St tdci mondeo, with frequent trips to Bristol, fuel consumption on the mini isn't great and I like to keep the miles down on the coupe

Has anybody got any experience of these? I've read up on them and like most cars they don't come without a problem or two

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Can't comment on the st Tdci but incase it's relevant we have an 02 Tddi (mechanical fuel pump) other than the injectors, the engine is pretty much the same I think, car is our family hack dependable reliable surprisingly nippy and fastish etc just seem to need drop links every other year which are easy to do and a rear wheel bearing, also we have a drone changed tyres not as bad as before but annoys me the mondeos were apparently prone to odd wear patterns on rear tyres
Mine is the ghia x model so has all the bits and bobs to make it pleasant on a European trip although the drivers seat very slightly rocks and appears to be wear/slack on the height linkage
Decent motor for the money but nothing exciting
The main problem we heard about on the Tdci was fuel pump dissintegration which contaminates the whole fuel system which ends up as a viscous circle all lines need cleaning properly or replacing including return lines or it will need doing again and again etc.

Good to know, thanks

I read that on the ST the flywheel tends to need replacing after about 80,000 miles, and strangely enough there seems to be quite a few on the market with said millage!

I guess sometimes it's better the devil you know.

I had one a few years ago and the flywheel went at 90k. It's a minimum £500 job so look for one that has had it already replaced. I had two rear wheel bearings go, a front spring collapsed and also had to replace an intercooler pipe.

It did drive really nice however and I may have been unlucky by purchasing at the wrong time in the cars history but it was pretty unreliable for me!

There's a really nice example in Essex but it's £5545 which is about a grand more than I want to pay, however it's had everything done and the man selling claims he works for Ford so it's all genuine Ford parts plus v low miles at 58,000 is it worth that much?

How long did you keep it for?

My mate has one. Seems pretty reliable but I've swapped his turbo a few months back and also done a couple of wheels bearings.
