First of all if this alarm is the standard one which is covered in the FAQ I apologise, I just don't know which one it is.

Basically it's never worked since I've owned the car from January. The lad I got it from said it worked occasionally, I just thought the battery was on its way out and wasn't too fused about it working.

Anyway decided to change the battery and see if it would work.... shock horror no joy.

I'm not very clued up on alarms but I do believe if the battery runs flat the code will need changing?

Or could there be a few other things wrong?

It's a Scorpion 918U with missing FIAT badge next to the LED, with slider switch on side to deactivate interior sensors. You should have have an alarm siren ahead of airbox with key to turn siren off or on. Habd a look in FAQ knowing that it's a 918U and come back again with more questions...

There's info scattered around various threads, do a search for "918" and/or "scorpion" and you'll find a fair amount.

A flat (remote) battery shouldn't cause any problems apart from remote lock/unlock not working and alarm ot being activated.

When you press the left button on the fob, does the LED light up?

Inside the car, is there a red LED for the alarm, usually to the left of the gear stick, in front of the driver's window switch, or sometimes it replaces the dummy LED in the rightmost 2 x 3 switches next to the clock.

Is the alarm siren where I suggested behind the nearside sidelight/indicator ahead of the airbox?

Do you have a small key on your keyring which is for the siren?

Can you locate the alarm ECU behind the passenger dash end cover, or above the fuse box?

Does the central locking work when you lock/unlock the doors?

Do you have the interior ultrasonic sensors at the bottom of the A pillars?

Yeah the light comes on, and stays on for awhile, I think it's had better days as you can see from the picture.

It's on with the 2X3 button switches

Not really sure what I'm looking for sorry, not alot of help here, googled what it looks like and where it should be, but unfortunately I'm pretty useless smile

The LED on the remote should only come on when you press the button and go off when releasing it.

The siren is normally forward from where you took that last picture, just behind the side light/indicator (of course your airbox has been removed). I'll see if I can post up a picture or two later.

What else have you got? (LED in car, interior sensors, siren box, alarm control box)

I assume that the alarm has expired and/or been removed, there are new alarms you can buy and fit or get fitted for reasonable cost (bockers might be along soon to recommend something).

I have the sensors on the front, which have settings on, I assume that's to do with the sensitivity. I don't have a siren key? That's pretty much it. I think yes it may have been removed and the seller forgot to mention this to me

The light stays on once it's pressed, not always but most of the time, literally nothing happens when I press anything. Apart from the led light on the fob

Any suggestions for a new system wouldn't go a miss thank you

Rejoice in the good fortune that it no longer works.

Then just a get a an central locking unit with fobs. The Coupe alarm is not linked to the ecu and in practicability does nothing except make noise and annoy people.

If you do insist one getting another unsocial box then get a Toad (aka turd), Cobra or similar. They will all do the saem job of annoying people.

There are remote kits for around £20 that will do a great job. Some even allow you to convert the coupe key into a folding key unit.

Here is an example. With a bit of work you could even get the boot to remote release.

I had a similar problem with my 1999 20VT6. Got it with 2 scorpion fobs that did not work so I changed the batteries on them and although they opened the doors they did nothing else. Looking under the bonnet I found a Toad siren. Hunting through the pile of random papers I got with the car I discover a certificate showing the Toad unit was fitted in 2000. Anyway in the end a got a local car audio place to fit a CAT1 alarm and they told me they found two alarms, the Scorpion and the Toad wired up together!

Thanks bockers, surprisingly cheap, probably going to work out cheaper than fixing mine. Hopefully it will be something I can fit myself.
