Toying with the idea of plastidipping the coupe, anyone got any idea how to work out how much you would need?

I have been watching his videos on you tube. Quite interesting if you want to go down that route!

It's a very interesting route, for a temporary solution to stone chips, laquer peel or faded paintwork for a fraction of the cost of a re-spray or wrap. If you believe all the blurb it will also protect your car from nuclear holocaust and zombie attack. Can't decide whether to attempt it myself or hand it over to these guys chinny

Sounds like a plan! Only trouble is finding a place to do it, really need a nice big clean garage where the owner doesn't mind a bit of overspray. confused

Hi Steve,

Don't know about that, perhaps if it was tougher it wouldn't pick up finger nail nicks, but then I guess it wouldn't feel the same

Lots of lite coats , amount will depend on colour ie light colour over dark etc . But go for 10-15 ltrs plus thinners for that amount.

While it does peel off easy , if applied to thin it breaks up and does not come off in sheets and becomes a long process, as we found out at work . Just because you don't need to prep like for paint i would still mask any where you do not want the plastidip to go. The coupe may not have handles and mouldings like most cars , it could still be a mare to remove around rear cups and front bumper vents .

Thanks Cheech, some useful tips there. If i can find a venue i think i'll give it a go. I think masking would be a good idea, probably save time too.

We did my friend's coupe with 5l of plastidip and 5l of thinners. Was enough to give it 5 good coats.

A friend of mine did it with 4,5 liters of plastidip and 4,5 liters of hardner in pearl white, still need a total of 2 liters to finish it up. So my tip would be use 6 liters of each for a good 5 layers with perfect coverage.
