I brought a set of billies and eibachs a while ago.
I fitted them to my car and the car was literally dragging on the floor. Joe at FCSS saw this an will agree that the coupe was stupidly low.

We assumed the issue was the springs, removed them... and they did look unusually small. Fitted a set of FCSS springs and it raised the car up a bit.

I sent the springs off to eibach to check and they confirmed there was nothing wrong with them and they were the correct specification for the 20vt.

The car rides much better with the FCSS springs however it is still very very low. Nismo has Eibachs and Billies and my car is lower than his at the front! Even with the larger springs.

So what on earth can it be???
I though the shocks - however they are under compression so not sure how it could be. Unless they are for a 16vt and not 20tv and where the spring seats in is lower?

So my question is.... are the Bilstein shocks different for the 20vt and 16vt. How can I tell if mine are correct? They are fairly new and I can probably still make out serial numbers etc etc.

Help....
Please laugh

Having looked around on the net they seem to be the same part!
So why is my car so much lower at the front than most other coupes! ? ! frown

ps. Before anyone makes a joke its still just as low when im not sitting in the car! laugh

Can someone with a coupe with Lips and Billies/Eibachs or FCSS Springs measure the distance from the floor to front lip please?

Also one other thing worth mentioning is that My dad said that when he put the springs onto the shocks he didn't even need to compress them they were that small. So do I have a dud set of shocks?

Can you take a photo of the car from the side Mario? I've got Billies & eibachs and mine does seem low. My eibachs didn't need compressing either when fitted.

It wears a lower brace as well which gives me around 2" of ground clearance.

Here you go Gunzi

That's with the FCSS Springs that are around 5mm larger than the eibachs

I wonder if your lower spring seats are out? Maybe you have dampers intended for an Alfa? You need a measurement from the step where it enters the hub to the spring seat for yours and for standard/ Nismo's car

Yeah I will need to remove the sock and measure it up.
The dampers were brought from Alternative Autos originally so it unlikely they would have got it wrong but definitely worth checking! Thanks!

even with fcss springs you shouldnt be able to put the spring on the strut without the spring compressors. that sounds weird to me.

as for 16vt hubs i didnt think they fit with a brembo setup so that shouldnt be possible. what top mounts have you got? and what condition are they in?

Id just get joe to solve this problem its quicker than pulling your own hair out smile

No spring compression needed on the Eibachs isn't right and we said that on the day you were over, but looking at your picture the ride height looks spot on.

I've got bilstein shocks with Eibach springs also Mario. Came streight off dads 2.4, and even 2nd hand covering around 4000 mile, when I took them apart to change the bearings they 'did' have to be compressed significantly to get the nut back on. So that to me seems strange if you have sent them off to Eibach and got the ok?

I think the car looks like it's sitting pretty sweet in your pic, doesn't look overly low at the front, and you can still see a noticeable gap between the top of the tyre and bonnet.

But going by what your saying, Something deffonatley isn't quite right, have you tried measuring the shocks and comparing against other bilsteins? Incase there are any differences there?

My car is with Joe at the moment and has the billy - fcss combo. I don't have a pic with me right now though. Think there might be couple with it in it's delapodated state on the FCSS FB page. I'm pretty sure mine doesn't look as low as yours. In fact, I thought mine could do with the front dropping a tad more - aesthetically. Yours looks great in the pic mate.
Always seems like achieving a balance between 'stance' and appropriate handling sensibilities / behaviour is a tricky issue with coops.

I think yours looks alright as well Mario. When i had the Bilstein + Eibach combo, it was really low but i thought that the age of the springs was a contributing factor. Heres a pic of it next to Sparkyman's coop which sits higher...

As you can see, it sits pretty low too!

Anyway, I still think that the Bilstein B6 and Eibach is a mismatch. There just isn't enough damper travel once the eibach has been preloaded under the cars weight. The B6 isn't meant to be paired with lowered springs.

Easiest option out of all this is to junk the billies (sell them on) and get some coil overs.

You can get the ride height just how you want it then when you change your mind at all you just get the C spanners out again and start winding until happy again

I was making sure, actually, when I bought mine. Phoned Bilstein in Germany and I have 1st hand info they fit with 30-40mm lowring.. Sure you cut the front bump stops?

Yeap bumpstops were shortened. Strange that Bilstein confirmed the B6's are ok with lowered springs..my impressions are that:

Bilstein B 4 - Stock replacement
Bilstein B6 - Slightly stiffer stock replacement
Bilstein B8 - Uprated dampers that are used with lowered springs

I think these were mentioned in their product catalogue. It's just unfortunate that no B8's were made available for the coupe.

We should be inundating Bilstein with requests for the B10 or B16, absolutely fantastic dampers!

Mine sits stupidly low with Eibach and Bilstein combo but still I had to compress the springs when putting them on. Maybe you were sold incorrect shocks?
