Hi all,

my LE has Eibach springs fitted.

I know there are 16vt ones which are meant to ride better than the 20t ones.

I'm not sure which I have, is there a way to visually check ?

cheers,

Rich cool

It's true. My 20vt had Eibach 16v springs and Billstein shocks. Which I removed. Apart from then being able to pass our MOT here, it also got rid of a clonck when driving off the pavement with the wheels turned. So yes they fit. But I'm still in doubt whether they do or don't exhibit any problems whatsoever.

The 16vt springs were available as an optional extra from Fiat in the early days.
It will be obvious if you have them fitted, look under the wheel arch at the front springs, if the bottom 3 coils are sat touching each other (coil bound) then you have the 16vt springs, if there is an even gap between springs then you have the 20vt springs.

Kayjey, that clonk was probably those bottom 3 coils going coil bound as the weight on the fronts compressed the spring as you drove off the kerb.

Got the 16VTs and did a visual comparison with my friend´s 20VT setup.

And the much rumored 10 mm front suspension height difference is just a fairytale.

And I would say the ride is about the same as well...

Hmmm, maybe my back to fitting of both springs on the same car was a fairytail?
There was a 10mm increase in height and due to the smaller gauge wire the springs are made from, slightly more compliant ride but again, maybe that was just my coupe and the Billy dampers I had fitted?

My car too got 10mm higher with Billies (same (eibach) springs).

Funny, I thought.

That was until I realized the car was resting on the bumpstops due to the taller Billie shocks. smile
Cut them half - back to original Eibach height. Not to mention the comfy ride! cool

I still have the whole bumpstops fitted on my bilstein eibach combo, can the cutting be done while they're on the car, or do i first have to remove the dampers?

is it possible that the bump stops affect the geometry?

Sem, no on your second question. First question: if you jack the car up + put on stands you should be able to get to the bump stop, pull it through the springs and cut it. If you want, I have the friday available. smile

But yes, it can be done in situ, with wheel off. Just be careful not to scratch the damper piston with your knife!

You'd know if it was riding on the bumpstops, the ride would be very bouncy at the front end!

I bought some of the polyurathane bumpstops from Powerflex, they are around 2" long and do the job nicely, the 6" fiat version is way too excessive for a lowered or standard car, they are only there to prevent the damper from bottoming out or the spring going coilbound, there is no need for any progressiveness in them as they dont play any part in damping, they are just a physical barrier or buffer.

No, it was just a little crashy. Like 80% of all Coupe's with Eibach/Billies, most people don't cut them. wink

Well, compared to now it was very crashy.
