After reading report after report on tyres on here , I am still no better off deciding which to put on my 16v non turbo little coop. 15 inch bog standard wheels, but i want good grip in the wet as i lost my rover 600 on a dodgy wet roundabout last weekend and am now using the coop for work. All the tyres mentioned by you guys have plusses and minusses, surely there must be one tyre that can cope with all conditions [ especially the wet ] that will give me peace of mind without breaking the bank ! i'm after a set of 4 new tyres . I know this has been covered many times but when i finally agree on a set[ like falkens ], along comes someone who says they are crap for the 1 st 500 miles and that 912 are not as good as 452s. can you help me decide lol

For me, Falken FK452s are the ultimate 'all things to all men' tyre. They're good in the wet and dry, they wear well and are one of the cheapest out there.

No idea if you can get them in 15" but they would be my choice if you can.

F****** b****** thing...

The fk452s & toyo t1r's are both popular choices for the coupe. Continental sport contact 2's are also well liked if you want to spend a little more.

Except that the 452s don't seem to be available in 195/55/15... - I've had Falken Ziex ZE-912 on for the last year and been quite happy with them. Plus they're now under sixty quid at Blackcircles.

Toyo Proxies T1R. So impressed with their all round ability that I also stuck a set on the Alfa 166. Cost a good deal less and have lasted much longer than the previous Goodyear Eagle F1's that were fitted to both cars.

Gone Audi mad!

Thanks for the help guys...before i spend millions tomorrow on new tyres and a suspension check, would having these tyres at the moment give me the very light steering issues i have with the car. GT radials on the front, Dunlop sport 2000 on nearside rear and michalin on the other rear. All pretty good tread apart from the mich 3.5 ? I do not feel connected to the road at times and would a brand new set of tyres cure my problem ? just wondered if anyone else has suffered similar problems , car is M reg and has done 78000 miles and to my knowledge has never had any parts replaced apart from a bearing and the usual oil, air filters. plugs etc .

That would be an mot fail over here - different tyres on one axle.

Normally that'd fail here too.

Why? As long as the tyres on each axle are of the same size and construction the brand doesn't matter.

I agree. My dad runs a nissan micra as a runaround, and it has 4 different tyres.

Its the size difference which causes an issue.

As for why your car feels unconnected, I would start with checking the condition of the top mounts and wishbones.

Ross

p.s. it may not even be your tyres causing the handling issue in the wet you describe.

It seems people on here like Falken tires..?
I put Falken's on my Argenta and they are CRAP in the wet. Wet tarmac could aswell be snow.. frown

For good grip I would go for well established brands like Pirelli, Michelin, Continental, Good Year, etc. Can't go much wrong!

452's aren't bad in the wet, but aren't brilliant either.

Would prefer them over p6000's anyday.

Had it checked out on the ramp, no apparent problems with suspension, wishbones etc , so buying 4 new kumho 31s, which according to tyre reviews are supposed to be pretty good, so will now have 4 matching new tyres so that should make a difference hopefully [ £ 280 for 4 ].

Changed my mind , getting Uniroyal Rain expert at 76 quid a shot, bad reviews about the other brand mentioned , crap in the wet apparently.

I have Kuhmo's (is that how you spell it? ) on mine at the front and ok in the dry but just let go at like 20mph on roundabouts.

I find it hard to believe that I haven't come across an honest tyre salesman in the last couple of days researching the best tyres at a good price. If it wasn't for this site and a couple of tyre review sites that tell it how it is, where would we be ? Reputation for honesty obviously doesn't rank highly on their agenda, does it.

What about wheel alignment? Have you had it checked?

I run falken 452 and I think they are a good all round tyre, they can be better'd but not at the price.

The Ziex ZE-912 are not as good as the 452 that's maybe why some people are saying that "falkens" are not that good in the wet?

New tyres fitted today, tracking was out by -3 on both fronts [ what the hell Spon End tyres did last week when they were checking them ? ] . Fitted and laser tracked today, drives much better but still steering slightly light, but that is something i might put up with until i get rack checked
