Standard would need 205/50 or 225/45. Before these profile tyres were freely available from Pirelli P Zero, Falken 452, Toyo Proxes, Goodyear F1, Hankook Ventus, Yoko Advan etc which were all good. My fav was Bridgestone Potenza RE001

Nowadays 205/50 & 225/45 are rare to find. A set of four should cost 350 plus

Falken FK452 are the typical forum choice for premium on a budget, along with Toyo [TR1] [Proxes].

Look on blackcircles, mytyres and camskill

If you have the money my view is that Continental SportContact 2 are the best, but they are maybe £130 when the Falken is £85.

By the way, the 225/45 16 tyre is the plus size tyre. The 205/55 16 is the VT and LE size. If your insurance company were minded to be extremely difficult they might try and make something out of that in a claim (probably unfairly) as it is not the original tyre spec of your car.

Also the 225/45 are a fair bit more expensive than the 205/55s

I've just re-shoed my 325 horses with Toyos. I've never felt the need to try anything else. wink

I have been having the 20VT for over 8 years now. Have tried most brands. My best budget tyre was Falken 452 but they rubber burns fast. Bridgestone Potenza Adrenaline RE001 came out in 2007 and for me personally is the best tyre i have used.

Last year i changed my tyres to Pirelli Dragon. The Dragon are budget Pirelli and cost same as the falkens.

I have Toyo T1Rs (205 x 17) on the Scottie, and Falken 452s (225 x 16 on plus wheels) on the Moon VT6. The wider tyres on the Moon do tend to tramline occasionally and make a little extra noise. However I have found the grip on both cars to be fantastic over this ruddy awful winter - I've never lost either car in the wet, although being ancient I tend not too hoon around too much in the wet/snow/ice thumb laugh .....

Continental sport contact 2 and 3 are fabulous. I can put all 315 horses down to the road with no fuss at all. I'll never buy anything but Contis from now on.

Toyo t1-r's work fabulously for my 350 ponies. Also Avon zz3's get a favourable mention.

I was going to get these, but they have jumped up massively in price now, well i'm looking for 215/40/17 and it's about £110 a tyre compared to £70 for a Toyo T1-R

This is possibly the second to what oil question. Sounding obvious, most performance tyres are of a more sticky make up & wear down quickly if you do a lot of spirited runs. On the other hand there are a few budget brands out there that fit the bill if you drive sensibly.

Continentals if you can afford.

Jonone, that does not make sense. Do you mean that you can only get them below 16''?

I see now. Colon or maybe semi-colon required rather than the comma!

CamSkill do the Centos in 16s. Good price for the standard size for the coupe at the mo, but no plus suitable size.

I went from Eagle F1s to Toyo T1R's I prefered the Eagles damp handling over the Toyo's. Also, slightly quieter and less understeer with the Eagles.

Is that true? I always thought the LE had the factory supplied 205 50/16's? Well mine always has anyway?

That would NEVER happen probably the biggest misconception i have ever heard about insurance companys trying to get out of a claim! it just wouldn't happen, they just cannot be that picky even if they wanted to be. Its not fair on the customer and you just have to say you didn't know like they wouldn't know anyway.
Worst case they take an additional modification premium out of your payout or increase the excess.
