Jari had found the limits of his old setup, so an FC Performance Stage 5 upgrade was in order. This is the most powerful remotely tuned Coupe in the WORLD...

Jari will have to wait until the snow melts next Summer to give it a good outing on track, but that doesn't stop him driving thousands of kilomtetres throughout the winter with his snow shoes on.

Next year will see the Coupe reach even greater heights, there are some very interesting developments taking place...

Why would you run such high boost? Even with fully forged internals, is there no other way to get the same power more efficiently?

Yes a bigger displacement engine or much higher RPMs.

In real terms, the Coupe 20vt is very efficient with boost pressure. It's not uncommon to see Evos, 1.8T VAGs and YB Cosworths running 30-35psi or 2-2.3bar in order to achieve the same power.

It's a GT3071R 0.86 turbo and custom cam timing.

When my C&B cams were incorrectly timed (as per the OE timing), the car was actually nicer to drive. When they were set up correctly, the peak power went up, but I lost some midrange

I'd be interested to know if there's a decent compromise somewhere between the two

really? - it's not hitting the desired level of boost until about 5,000rpm - 1 bar doesn't come up until 4,000rpm

Still, regardless of the effects of a 0.86AR turbine housing on a GT30, its an impressive figure and the traces look very smooth and stable

Engine hp.

It actually spools up a good 300-400rpm earlier on the road so it's good response for a 0.86 GT3071R and a very broad torque band.

We have just built a performance engine with a GT3071R 0.64 that gives 1bar boost at 2850rpm in 5th gear!!!



The turbo isn't good for 500bhp, it may make a little more torque in the midrange but the 71mm compressor is right at the limit.

I just arrived from Norway to the cold Finland.

Yes, we have 20 cm snow and -20 degC at the moment and Coupe runs smoothly .

The next natural step in my tunig was to contact Leighton to get all out of the turbo, because I have been following his doings with Coupes and he is the best at the moment there is !! So, big thanks to Leighton and his remote work.

The turbo is more or less given out all it can at least in peak power, maybe 470...480 bhp would be possible by adjusting the cams a little bit differently. Higher torque is possible to get with higher boost, I have ran with 1.9 bar, but it comes down after 7000 rpm.

I'm really happy with the behaviour of the car, the torque is really something, eventhough there is no use to it at the moment .

I really wait for the next summer....

how good is your handbrake for getting the car round corners?

Actually it is really easy to run in snow, under 3000 rpm it is like any other NA 2L car, so for the winter use I do also have wide rev band to use, from 1500... 3000 rpm . Visco helps also alot in winter time. Only negative point is the low car, app. 8 cm free space under the car.

Handbrake is frozen , so can't use it at all. Left foot braking instead...

in that 466 bhp dyno run the intake cam variator was not activated, which mean fixed 110 degree intake cam position.
But now because of the winter I use the intake cam variator, because without it there is now idle after cold start.

And what comes to the boost on the road, I can see what ever boost (1.8 - 1.9) I have adjusted in 4200-4400 rpm .
In fourth gear, 1 bar can be seen around 3400 rpm.

The truth is that GT3071R 0.86 is out of the map in 7000 rpm and boost above 1.4 bar, it start to act like heat pump.
