My mate has just offered me his turbo off his Evo6 he says if I can make it fit then I can have it for free \:\)

Does anyone know what turbo the Evo6 uses and if it would be worth while trying to make it fit.

Oh for those who don't know its for a 16vt

Thanks for any advice.

Matt

not sure, but ive a mate into his evo's so i'll ask. i'd guess that the turbo would have to be rotated though to get the intake and exhaust to get anwhere near right, and maybe be looking at some custom pipework, you may need a remap of some sort as well.

here would be a good place to find out the turbo's specs and ask some questions.

anything could be made to fit, but you may well find its cheaper, and far more reliable to go for an upgrade thats been done before.

Thanks \:\)
I'm only considering it as an option as I was going to buy a GT30 but if I can make this fit then I will save a fair bit.
The turbo elbow is way different but he's giving me that aswell so the exhaust should'nt be too much of a problem for the guys that built my system

He achieved 394bhp on this turbo and it also spools up really quick considering so if I can make it work for now then the Gt30 can wait.

It simply won't make another 120bhp on a standard turbo... Evo 6 in the OP...

The turbo is twin scroll as well, so won't work really, as the manifold needs to be split into 2, this turbo is a twin scroll, look at the where the manifold would join with it

Its a good turbo but totally different to a T3 and every single pipe/hose/connection would need to be custom.

Its a total waste of time IMO since there are so many bolt on hybrid options which are in the same league. Or even a GT series turbo.

A friend of mine has an Evo6, 2.3L stroker making 230kw at the wheels still on the stock turbo, thats over 350bhp. It has no lag at all,

I run an hybrid Evo 6 TD05 turbo on my Alfa 147 turbo and its a great turbo, compact, yet powerfull and nio real lag to speak of,spools up fast too.

But this is what I am about to be running on the car.Custom fabricated tubular manifold and an Evo 8 GT-3071/R turbo.450bhp easily.

those Evo turbos are actually pretty good stuff ..
the new model Evo X have 47mm / 68mm compressor wheel and the same 49,1mm / 56mm turbine wheel, as the older ones, and making around +100hp more atwhp, when tuned.
its not all about the wheel size, or that its having only 295hp ( evo x ) standard.
another one : evo 6.5 TME = those oldes evos have a little bigger compressor wheel ( 48,2mm ) and those are also making around 400hp flywheel, around 1.5bar boost. same power cabable also evo 8, 9 , ( just use the 10.5 housing )
evo X have 12 housing )
even with the "very old" evo 3 16g turbo could go there ( but with big exhaust pressure )
evo X spools 20psi at 3000rpm and make +400hp, sounds good ?
best turbo from X is the one with titanium turbine wheel.
also you can find that turbine wheel with older models, but I´m not gonna lists all those here, it reads on the turbo model name as A ( TDo5HRA example )
if I was gonna chance my turbo now, evo X could be my choice...
still I want to talk about wheel size \:D
lets take the "new" holset turbo here ...
model : HE221W with billet compressor wheel..
compressor wheel : 43mm
turbine wheel : 45mm
with those specs, you could think, that ok.. its very small turbo, right ?
and its not making any real power on our cars ..
well, the wheel is not all about the size .
here is results with opel 2.0 16v engine using this turbo and 98e octane fuel:
575nm 4760rpm
peakpower 312kW 5700 / 0.93bar.
400nm 3000rpm.
results can be found here :
http://www.turbotec.com/kilpaautot/bmwrox.html
theres older results and new ones, turbo spools good too,
1bar at 2750rpm.
and theres couple fotos of the turbo also.
if thinking something very fast spooling turbo, then I would take perhaps Evo X turbo, and if its possible, using there billet middle section with those 200% lighter balls, than normal ball bearing turbo has... now that could be the real superspool ;\)
text can be found for those, here:
http://www.billetturbochargers.com/About_Billet.ews
maybe theres even more better spooling turbos, that are making more power with smaller wheels, but I just wanted to say, that its not just were the turbo have been standard, or whats the wheel size.
