16vt brake upgrade? #359862

I'm looking to upgrade my front brakes and was wondering what the best (cost effective) 4-pot solution is? Ideally I'd like to go up to 20vt disks, but is there a Fiat / Alfa caliper that bolts on directly or without too much hassle? Alternatively, is there an off-the-shelf kit available?

Cheers

Peter

been discussed a lot in other threads.
If you want the 20VT, you need the hubcarriers/hubs (to be able to bolt the calipers straight away and you need to modify the how_do_they_call_this_thing_at_the_end_of_the_steeringrack.

The Italian FCC is organising a group buy for 8pot caliper brakes, adapter plate for your own hubcarrier, split disks with ergal bell (330X32mm), pads and new high pressure flex hoses for 1600euro only! (a bargain, well sort of...)

Few other options available with a lot of searching and custom work involved if you fancy.

Don't really fancy the whole 20vt hub / driveshaft / caliper route! Pity that the likes of wilwood or hispec don't do a bolt-on kit.......

well Hi spec make cr@p so your've been spared there. Wilwood needs a little engineering know how. Std 16vt brakes are pretty good for single pots.

Rich,

any points on why/how Hi Spec are crap? I have a feeling that the Italian GB is for HiSpec (they are korean or something right? and come in fancy fluo colours from the pics I've seen...)

fastuning, let me ask for that and I'll come back to you. It's a friend who's ordered them.

Hi Vassilis,

it seems that some brembos from Peugeot 607/807 are direct fit to 16VT. I think the ones with the 310x32 discs. You could put 20VT discs with it using spacers to match the right thickness or just machine the 807 discs to the 4 bolt pattern.

Alexis: waiting for my mate to return from Italy (should be in the boat as we speak) and I'll let you know. There is a _REAR_ conversion with 4pots as well don't know much about it atm (don't remember if you were part of the Tarox rear break conversion) this will be a proper job with hydraulic handbrake and customised for the coupe ;\)

The front one will start shipping in 30-35days (hope they are not Italian or Greek days but proper ones...)

Jerome: I remember you mentioned that a long time ago, however, there is minimal chance of me getting hold of such brakes on my local breakyard as theren't more than 3-4 of these cars in Greece \:\(

You can find these peugeot calipers quite easily in france. A friend just got a set for his 16VT. He checked the fitting and it looks good. Could worth to see how much they cost as new. Note these calipers are brembo. I fitted 806 calipers in my 16V which are girling calipers with larger piston and disc (281x26)

So what you're saying is that these Peugeot brembo 4-pots fit directly on to a 16vt? Or do I need to fit the larger 20vt disks as well?

pwrms:
I *think* that JMA is talking about single piston floating calipers here, just much larger than the stock 16VT ones.

okay.

I know 2 routes :

-You can mount 806/Evasion/Ulysse front calipers (floating) with stilo abarth front discs. Discs and calipers are larger than standard, it's a really cheap and easy upgrade. This is my setup.

-Some Brembos calipers from 807 / V6 607 can also fit the 16VT. I don't know which discs can work with them. They are made for 310x32 discs so maybe 20VT discs can work with them, maybe not. In the worst case, you could just fit some wilwood discs or the 807 discs converted to the 4x98 pattern.

I hope this is clear now.

Nyssa7 had numerous issues and one of the other guys I race with has Hi Spec, their customer service is Nill, their product is poor needing filing to get to fit, seals are crap - And that was on a 306 hardly a rare car. He will look at 406 brembo's instead soon.

Rich,

it's K-sport calipers apparently built by AP (if I have any reason to believe them...)

I've seen plenty of that stuff, in PPC I think it looks nice and they seem to make a lot of stuff. I think with these low volume items the customer service is as important as the actual product. They need to hand in hand.
