Hi

Been a long time but I MAY, finally, after 4 years of frustration, heartache and litigation [a very long tale which I will tell on here when all the legals are totally over] be getting towards a position where I can start to get my 20VT back on the road.

I had to repossess it in a half dismantled state so apologies if my questions seem obvious or really basic but I have a pile of bits to suss out [I'm not even sure I have anywhere near everything I should] and seeing as I didn't take it to bits, and have nothing for comparison, I can only guess on some things.

I have looked through the forum but not been able to find what I need. It's probably all there but I'm just not looking in the right place so I have a few questions...

ONE: What is this bracket? Is it something to do with the radio?

TWO: Can anyone please tell me how all this goes back neatly?

click to enlarge click to enlarge

and does this somehow 'cover it'? Or go somewhere else...?

THREE:

Emerging from the centre console area, what are these for?

FOUR:

Lastly for the moment, what are these things please...

(a)This rubbery thing..

click to enlarge click to enlarge

and (b) this thing..

Thanks for all help. It's very gratefully received I can assure you. If my car is salvageable I will probably have many more silly questions over the next few months so please be gentle with me!

Cheers

I think number one is part of the handbrake console - is this currently not fitted? I think it supports the gear lever console, it is meant to attach to the handbrake console but it appears to be broken. I know the cover in number two goes behind the centre console to conceal some of the wires behind the stereo (over the carpet).

3 are the two ISO plugs for the stereo. One does the power and the other does the speakers.

2 The second bit is cover for the airbag ecu on the floor behind the central console

4a is the rubber piece that goes behind the dash strip and above the steering wheel. It is rubber so it flexes when the steering wheel is adjusted. It fits in a slot below the speedo instrument binnacle.

2 is quite easy when you know how. It's part of the cradle for the ECU.

1) That's the broken off front edge of the handbrake console. The white bits are where it's sheared off the main (rear) console section.

It often breaks off like that but you can glue it back on around the edges of the black plastic part and then the bolt holes will line up and allow the handbrake console to be secured at the front.

That's what happens when you remove the rear bolts but don't go in through the gear stick gaiter area to remove the front bolts and just pull the handbrake console up/out.

2) ECU fits onto the 2 upper bolts on the brass mounting at the top of your pic, with the ECU connector facing upwards. The 2 lower bolts (lower left and lower right) are for the ECU black plastic cover, which I don't see in your pics.

The relay/fuse holder bolts on just beside the ECU when it's in position.

The carpet cover thing fits over the airbag ECU (small yellow box) on floor at back of centre console.

3) Radio power + speaker connectors.

4) <edit> Yes as mentioned above the first one is the rubber part that sits along the top of steering wheel cowl just below the instrument panel warning lights.

Don't recognise the last one though.

You know that feeling when something's just on the edge of your memory? I *had* a 4b kicking around in the car for ages and I can't remember where I finally discovered it went!

I might be wrong, but 4b looks like the spacers that come with car batteries that sit on the mounting flanges. They're not needed on Coupes.

Easy, Graham, bockers, barnacle, Dan.

Thanks guys.

You're fantastic and I really appreciate the help. I've always said it but this forum really is tops.

This is the state of my Coupe when I snatched it back so you can see what I'm dealing with...

bockers... I'm loving the idea of the Coupe BBQ. Might have to wait till I get onto the more difficult stuff. By that I mean under the bonnet...

Maybe I'll have to start a dedicated thread for my rebuild - if the body and underneath is ok, that is. MOT to find out in the next week or so.

Anyway, thanks again chaps
