Having just put myself through the ordeal of watching the one and only episode (Subaru Impreza) I will ever watch, I am left with questions...

1. How do bell ends like Mike Wheeler get approved for a car show (or any show) when he clearly knows FA all about his supposed specialist subject?

2. Why did Edd China carry on sullying his good name by association with said above bell end for so long?

3. Can a Subaru really only deliver 240 odd BHP after a free flow exhaust, air filter and remap?

4. Why am I drinking brandy on a school night?

I watched them all, the mrs hates me for it. I watch to purely criticise and ridicule.

I particularly like the bit at the end where the prospective buyer eyes up the transformed car from lots of angles with a suggestive gaze.

I just got me-self, anova series init.

I love how Mike's hand shake gets further and further away every episode.

Do you think Edd actually wants to wrap a torque wrench round his head?
You can see it in his eyes sometimes.
When they have small convertibles on and Edds head sticks up high above the screen.

Love to see a Fiat Coupe on Wheeler Dealers though and watch Ed work his magic.

They could pick one up for a few hundred and sell it for couple grand easily!

If Mike actually paid Ed, would he ever make a 'profit' on his deals? I never see labour costs in the total cost of the restoration. Are we witnessing modern day slavery on TV?

Anyone got Ed's number? I can stretch to minimum wage for his services.

This is a reality car show which is contrived, I think we all know this. Very cheesey compared to other vehicle offerings. This ain't no Top Gear that's for sure. A very "safe" no sweary, & obvious effort.

I honestly do think no one is really surprised by this.... rolleyes

Personally as long as there is a car being resurrected I'm happy to watch.

Agreed - far more enjoyable these days than TG - when did you last see a spanner on that (apart from the presenters)

Watched the Porsche 911 episode yesterday - when Mike went to speak with the "expert" 911 owner, he commented that one of the things to look out for was "white stuff in the oil filler cap - denotes head gasket failure"

Am I missing something?.... (air-cooled 911)

Didn't Mike Wheeler do a programme years ago where he would find three cars to a persons budget ,then let them choose the car they liked?
I'm pretty sure thats why I bought my first 20vt!

It was on 'Used Car Roadshow'

Join Jason Dawe and Penny Mallory and our studio audience down at the used car workshop, for another episode of the UK’s favourite satellite TV car show….. the Used Car Roadshow.

This week’s buyer Richard Thomas who hasn’t owned a car for a while but now he’s ready for something sporty. Jason and Penny offer him a bright blue Fiat Coupe, a Toyota Celica and a BMW 328. Find out if he’s tempted to part with his hard earned cash after he’s taken two of them for a test drive.

Either click the button below this edit box that says 'Switch to Full Reply Screen' and click the second button from the right (with a world and a chain), or just quote Spoonz' post and have a look at the necessary codes.

Aha....the show by the way was mike brewer's presenting "Deals on Wheels"...97-2001....see http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deals_on_Wheels
though that wiki entry just says it was 'cancelled to make room for wheeler dealers'... But actually I was working at the production company at the time (Ideal World, same motley bunch of exploitative cloud9 who do that robson green extreme fishing crap among a lot of other crap these days) and actually it was cancelled as channel four had a beef witH the show's production company as they found out that...gasp...the customers were fakes and in some cases not buying the cars...so,poor producer who was doing so under the instructions of company got the can and blame for it all when it was actually the company chief exec whom is still known for a being a dodgy ball bag....and yet their other property porn shows ran exactly the same (ooh yes, of course we are regular and genuine buyers of property who want to appear on TV and no we won't actually out an offer in for the property at the end of the half hour show....its tv for chrissake, it's all fake I'm afraid!) but weren't cancelled by broadcasters as got so many viewers and made them so much money so they just accepted and absorbed that well known fact....oh and mike brewer seemed like a pretty good bloke actually and fair in his tv dealings for a used car salesman....never met edd China mind but tend not to mix with posh Giants....;-). And I quite like wheeler dealers for restoring cars to their former glory and vague mechanic tips....it feels,so wrong but it's discovery channel,so,surely educational no!?;-). though edd is only let out sometimes in the cars he restores...I reckon the modern slavery angle could be right as never any labour costs...eek!;-)

I've been banging on, on here that all this stuff is all contrived at best & scripted at worse, for ages. Anyone who is taking in by any of these reality TV shows really need to wake up & smell the petrol. For me, the car is the star. Doesn't really matter which vehicle is being brought back to life, I like to watch all the bits & pieces put together, even better when there are shiney bits.......drool driving

Off topic but another reality program ...Come dine with me.. was up in Inverness some time back. The local rag printed how the contestants were gobsmacked & surprised how they were told to camp it up & find faults with others & generally make a big deal about everything......Deary me, the poor souls really need to get out there & live a little & engage in a bit of reality exercise.
