Since a couple of months ago my alarm has been acting oddly - well, more oddly than usual. It starting giving a short blast on the siren every time the doors were unlocked by the remote fob, then sometimes that blast became continuous - I had to re-lock and unlock a couple of times to shut it up. Sometimes starting the engine made it stop.

For the last couple of weeks I've been avoiding using the fob, just relying on the keys.

Today I accidentally unlocked it with the fob, and nothing I could do turned it off - except re-locking the car with the fob. Tried various sequences of unlocking with keys and fob, checked all switches... and then discovered that I can just unlock using keys and open the door while the alarm is "on" with no siren. It seems to think on is off and vice versa, or something.

So now I'm driving with the LED flashing at me, hoping it doesn't change its mind. Any thoughts?

In the meantime, I'm inclined to disable the whole thing. Could someone perhaps PM me with some disconnect instructions?

This is one of the most common problems. First remove the siren as it is of no use and they play up with age.

Then you need to get the looking back into sequence. Lock doors with key then try unlocking with fob. Try a few combinations till it works properly. For me if i am in the car and the led is flashing I just plip the remot and its sorted (making sure the ignition is on.

So the siren can just be unplugged and removed? I take it it will activate immediately if unplugged ...

The "plip the remote with ignition on" doesn't do the trick for me, or any other sequence I've tried, so I guess I'm looking for a bucket ... frown

Is it the actually the siren or the control unit which is likely to be at fault (or is it not possible to tell for sure)? If I were to let the siren run until its internal battery ran out (er, bury it in a field?) might it forget it was confused? I imagine they're sealed and not repairable ...

if you CAN, get a new siren, as this causes all the problems.

As far as the C/Locking goes, dead easy, with the ALARM OFF, go to each door ( there are only 2 ! ) & manually unlock the doors with the key, fit the new siren ( battery disconnected ), then arm the alarm, it will all sync correctly & should be fine again smile

Unbolted and bucketed. The locking was in sync as soon as I'd done that.

So... I guess Abacus is the place for a replacement, but at £50ish I might just not. Or reverse-engineer the coding system and build something fun smile

Agsy the link to the Meta Manual in in the ICE FAQ at the top of this section.

With the siren removed the central locking still works and so does the alarm sometimes, in that you can hear a clicking relay laugh

Siren is in the passenger wing.
