a show of hands for interest then..?

if I'm not working- I'll probably go

for a while

In fact- hangon- this could be important; it could be a dry run & meetup for the North of Scotland tour. For those who can make it this far South/ East...

could be very useful

Have been to this a couple of times many moons ago when it was held in Craigtoun Park. It's a nice wee day out in a lovely part of the world.

Can't make this year as my baby is in for some rust treatment and mini re-spray.

Hope to be looking good (better) for June! thumb

Why are these things always on Bl**dy bank holidays banghead

I'm on holiday for 10 days before hand, so I think I'll give the old boy a break from the mayhem and cover for him so he can attend this, his 2.4 is currently off the road undergoing a few tweaks, so he'll probably be in that slow murple thing smile

I'm sure rosso was also talking about attending this? Usually bump into steamer too, although his priorities are all messed up at the moment, as the last few times I've seen him I've caught him lurking around the Alfa stands laugh

I'm sure you'll get a good turn out and all enjoy the day thumb

I really should attend one of these.... although I've been off the scene for almost 3 years now.

Evo is getting sold soon, might need to dust off the old RM Motorsport coupe for another blast.

Anyone still hear from Sparky and Steamer, I miss their old school flirting.

I think you most certainly should yes

Sparky and steamer both sold their coupe's quite a while ago now, it's funny the last two Scottish meets I've been to, I've seen steamer at the show (he's driving a Alfa spider now, or was last I seen him) and both times I've seen sparkys old sprinty, but not at the show, once passing and the second time broke down at the side of the road. As far as I know their both still 'coopless' but one things for sure, the Scottish scene is alot quieter without them frown

I was speaking with an ex member of this forum, over Facebook (Ross or hyper if you know him?) who is still in touch with sparky, and is supposedly going to drag him along to this event, so there is a chance they will both be there thumb

Looks like this is a possibility this year so I'll convoy up with you Dave if you want? Not sure what I'll be in though, the n/a or I might bring the 145 out of hibernation and give it a run. Still waiting for a few parts to finish the 2.4 so that won't be ready in time.

Any sign of Baz? Used to meet him at Abington services on the way up.

Hey Kerr,

You don't need to do anything except turn up!

Ed likes to have everyone arranged; as there is often difficulty getting in later on, as the place fills up. So an early start and meet up is preferable if you want to be with the gang.

Only fee is once we get there, which I think was '£5 per car'(?) - it's at the beginning of this thread anyway.

You don't need to be in the Coupé Club to attend, but it's always good to be in the family...

Although the chat and company was great for me the venue/show is limited in appeal for several reasons

1. Again, apart from the Ferraris and more pricey charabancs which were molly-coddled through the easy entrance rolleyes , we were routed in down this half-mile long dusty windy track so when we arrived on stance every car was coated in dust and bits of dried mud. Since it's a car "show" and most folk have gone to a bit of bother cleaning up their vehicles I'm not impressed with this.
Two years ago it had been raining and the upcast crud was so bloody awful I complained, and we seemed to get in the alternative entrance.

2. 30 mins before public opening time there was no paper towel in the WC. At 2.00 the gents toilets couldn't flush as no water was getting through rolleyes - something they knew about when I complained frown

3. There's nothing for kids, no stalls, simulators, go-karts, bouncy castle etc.

Someone suggested approaching Callendar Park in Falkirk which I think's a great idea. But I'm not that attracted to return to this venue next year tbh.

There were a few double takes in store today - have a look at the reg. plates!

Oh and sorry not to catch you jimbob wave
Posted By: jimbob13

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 30/05/2016 00:14

We did spot you Simon, but you were busy chatting to a few folk so we didn't want to intrude. Have to agree with much of what you say, we were watching a few cars coming down the rutted track and it did not look kind to them.

We made the decision to leave Amy-Lee with her gran and were very glad of that, as she would have been bored witless.

Mrs. Jimbob commented on the lack of stalls and the somewhat overpriced (even for a car meet) food. I heard at least a dozen folk comment on how empty the field looked too, I have a pic showing a large taped off area with nothing parked there.

The weather was excellent and it was a day out, but I wasn't overwhelmed.

Just to make the day really interesting, the clutch on my aging Citroën packed up on the way home and the new Cactus isn't due to arrive for another two weeks, so I now have two grouchy females in the house... I may not survive to get to another meet.
Posted By: Edinburgh

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 30/05/2016 00:23

Yes, £3.75 for a bacon roll which took at least 10 minutes to arrive even before official opening.

Sorry to hear about your clutch, did you just drive on timing or did you give in and call the cavalry?

Talking of journeys home I wonder how Rob40 got on going back to Carlisle.....
Posted By: jimbob13

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 30/05/2016 00:36

We waited in line for food, as we couldn't see a price list anywhere, when the lad in front of us was asked for nearly £14 for two rolls and two coffees we rather promptly decided to wait until we left the event and eat elsewhere.

I just crashed the gears in to get home, the car's getting scrapped anyway so I figured it couldn't hurt.

Carlisle to Cupar was quite a jaunt, that's dedication. shocked

Totally agree with the comments about the SICD show.

There are excellent car shows that have lots going on that we could enter as a club. The One at Thirlestane Castle that I've posted and the Fife Historic Vehicle Club Festival of Transport -19th June 2016 This takes place at the Scottish Bus Museum just North of Dunfermline. Clicky

I've visited both of these and they are excellent day out. Lots of varied car clubs attend.

Didn't get back til after 8.30. Sat and nattered for ages but couldn't help noticing all the cars that were getting turned back by the Alfa 'police' and forcing them to take the dirt track out of the park. Incidentally, I didn't see them refuse the Ferraris or the 4Cs grr
I went straight for the entrance and was approached by Mr Jobsworth. He told me I had to take the other exit so I told him I would, as long as he paid for a new bumper and for anything else that would possibly get damaged. After still refusing to let me by, I just drove straight through 2 of the big upright posts and carried on to where we came in. I was hoping he would give chase is something exotic but was disappointed. Couldn't quite make out what he was saying as I waved goodbye, I'm assuming some form of pleasantries or other laugh

Well worth the journey from Carlisle, my friend thoroughly enjoyed the experience, first Italian meet for him. I'm slowly converting him from the German side to something a little less reliable but much more soulful thumb He's halfway there as I class him as a Ducatiphile!

Great to see my friends again and to make new acquaintances, and the weather was just superb.
The drive home was err, rather noisy but put a smile on my face biglaugh

Sorted the pic for you robbo, sorry not to have met you.

I've written a stiff letter to the organisers about the dirt track - thought I'd sorted it last year frown

Said we may well look elsewhere for next year's event and have invited them to investigate Thirlestane who are definitely interested and maybe Callendar Park in Falkirk if they reply....

Now I've got your coupe, it's the one parked for a short while in the tyre fitters at Ratcliffe Terrace in Edinburgh last year! I spoke to the owner but perhaps he sold it on to you?

Somebody on Sunday did tell me they thought that was the case....

We don't need SICD to enter Thirlestane Show or any of the great car shows that exist.. We can enter as Fiat Coupe club, with one of the many other mixed car clubs or as individuals. SICD moving to Callender Park won't solve the problem of lack of; Stalls, entertainment, or public interest in a very narrow range of cars. I don't understand the loyalty we seem to have to such a poor show.!

Yes this is true - the events organiser has suggested the following for example

However it would be a lot better for us as part of a big event which would include the peripheral entertainment for family etc.

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 30/05/2016 19:09

Great to see and speak to a few of you.
I really enjoyed the show and like Edinburgh have complained about the fram track in the past. I dont think anything will change though. I did my marshalling bit and was told the other entrance is purely because of the lower exotics. But come to think about, Product placement. What do the public see first, exotics and are more likely to buy a ticket to come in, which as I am sure Cairnie fruit farm take a cut.
The reason I enjoy it so much is that as far as I know it is the only dedicated Italian car day in Scotland. What do we do, organise our own and invite all the clubs. It will take a lot of planning and I think SAROC do a very good job.
I will certainly attend next year but if there is another show for Italians with trade stands, autojumbles and things for the rest of the family to do all the better.
I will have to do some thinking as we must as an Italian car community be able to do a show that ticks the boxes for more people.

Yep was good to catch up with you Russell, and your brother, to be fair I did praise the management in my email today for the way they pulled the threads together as it's no overnight job organising this sort of thing.

The back track as you say and as you've read is very contentious and is a threat to future attendance for some which is a shame.

There is no issue with where the Exotics are parked it's the fact that they can enter by an easy flat route. Lots of other cars have lowered suspension. Still wouldn't make me attend with my car or as a paying punter.

I might come along with Michael.
Baz was also bemoaning the lack of entertainment at SICD show and asking about this one at the weekend. So he may come along.

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 07/06/2016 23:17

Right we, i.e. FCCUK, have been accepted to exhibit at next year's Borders Vintage Automobile Extravaganza.

They'll contact me as soon as the initial notices go out.

As far as I'm concerned this will be our "meet" at this time of year, although of course anyone wishing to attend an SICD day if it's in Cairnie's Fruit Farm is quite entitled to do so.

I will put the idea to SAROC, in fairness, but I get the impression the venue may be too far away for their liking.

I'm fair chuffed with this yipee

Excellent work Simon. Put my name down for this.

I would probably still attend sicd was it is the only dedicated Italian car event.

I'm with Rosso on that, although I accept the disappointment in advance.

That is terrific Simon- good effort-

Thankyou for negotiating that on behalf of us.

(Do you think we've arranged it early enough for next year's event though? I know the amount of prep you put into a show, and I see you've started getting ready for it already- hope you can finish in the next 363 days...)

This is the bit I don't get folks! And nobody seems to be able to answer confused
Why do we need a small dedicated Italian Car show. What is it you get at the SICD dedicated Italian car show(apart from charged)that you don't get at any other all encompassing car show?
There were just as many exotic Italian cars on show at Thirlestane Castle on Sunday than there were at Cairnie Fruit Farm the week before, with a massive range of other interesting cars and car related stalls and entertainment., And you don't pay to put your car in the show and they even give entrants a gift!.

I genuinely don't see the attraction of attending it. Please someone tell me! smile

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 08/06/2016 12:07

For me I would say that my passion is simply Italian cars outside of that I don't have much of an interest for any other marquees.

I've been attending this event for since the beginning of time but having said that the venue that its held in now I don't care for much and the whole dirt track entrance really is disappointing to say the least.

Simon has done a great job and I expect Thirlestane Castle event to be much better organised and I'm certainly looking forward to it.

"For me I would say that my passion is simply Italian cars outside of that I don't have much of an interest for any other marques."

Totally with you on that.

But I can also see, that there is nothing else to do, if you've got kids.

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 08/06/2016 13:02

OK if you are only interested in Italian Cars I have a wee bit more understanding. There just aren't very many of them there.
Most shows have Italian cars though so sho can avert your eyes from others.

Yes Brian, being charged to get you clean car dirty or risk damaging your car is not great.

There is nowt to do whether you have kids or not. Jim. laugh

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 08/06/2016 13:17

Its the cross some of us have to bear:) Id certainly say numbers at this have dropped and that looked to have happened after it had moved from Craigtoun country park. I think then they had other activities for families too.

Is there any talk of Ingliston being on this year?

I wouldn't even try to compare my coupe with some of the beautiful cars that do attend but most people put a lot of time and effort and really its an insult to be pointed in the direction of that other entrance.

Yep agreed I don't think it has anything for anyone that brings family.

Re: Scottish Italian Car Day 2016 - 08/06/2016 14:02

Yep Ingliston is on as far as I am aware. I just haven't had time to think about it. I had an email from them asking for feedback which I should really do. It was a great show for a first try and they need to be encouraged I think. Simon did ask about it last week so I'll investigate Asap

The Ingliston Revival is back on in 2017, 19th/20th August.

Ingliston Revival

So nothing this year but some jaunt up north apparently.

Thirlestane is a bit of a ways for us to travel, but it certainly looks like an excellent venue, so we'll be there. Good work, Simon.
