AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 07/01/2016 08:35

Auto Italia - Italian Car Day

Saturday, April 30, 2016

One of the biggest events of the year at Brooklands celebrating the UK’s obsession with all things Italian. This will be Auto Italia’s 31st Spring Gathering - the UK’s first and finest all-Italian car event. Expect the site to be bursting with all types of Italian cars (and motorbikes).

Brooklands Museum - Hill demonstration will be taking place, in addition to action on the Mercedes-Benz World circuit. In previous years there have been over 200 Ferraris alone! This year there will be just as much to see and do, including many trade and club stands so come early, bring your camera and plan the whole day at Brooklands!

Brooklands Museum - is a premium event, and advance tickets will be available from http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com and the Museum Shop in the New Year, with admission charges as follows:

Adults £13 in advance, £16 on the day
Seniors £12 in advance, £15 on the day
Children £5.50 in advance, £6.50 on the day
Family £35 in advance, £40 on the day
BTM & LBM £2 in advance, £5 on the day

Just turn up on the day Barry. Brooklands marshals will direct you to our area.

You can buy tickets in advance from Brooklands Museum, there is normally a fast lane entry for ticket holders. Go in via Campbell Gate.

I am discussing it with Phil Ward, it looks like there may well be only 2 or 3 places on the track.

If that is the case they will go to people who have never been on the MB World track previously and priority will go to club members.

Hill demo does need to be signed up for in advance, I don't yet know how many places. There should be more places available than for the track.

When I have firm information I will put it up on this thread.

Thanks Pete, I did the track 2 years ago so happy to let others go ahead. Look forward to seeing the hill demo info, didn't get a chance to do that.

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 25/03/2016 10:54

I have now heard from Phil Ward.

There will be space for 3 Coupes on the track demo.

If you have never been on the MB World track before and would like to go please put your name on this thread along with the type of coupe you have and its colour.

Priority will go to paid up club members.

Please note that you will need to produce your driving licence as you register on the day.

I need to give AutoItalia names early next week, so please post your details by Tuesday morning.

Thanks.

Great news that Phil is offering us track time Pete? I've done it before so happy to let others take the stand.

Did Phil mention anything about the hill demo? I recall that needed to be signed up for in the past.

Yes there will be Test Hill time Chris, I forgot to ask him how many places but there will be more than for the track.

I think we will need to sign up for that, so I'll check with him on Tuesday.

If anyone wants the Test Hill then please post your details on this thread.

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 29/03/2016 11:10

I have heard back from Phil.

The track demo participants are confirmed. Don't forget you will need to sign in from around 9 am and attend a drivers briefing later in the morning.

There will be 4 or 5 places available for us on the Test Hill. We do need to pre register, so if you are interested please add your name to the list before Sunday evening 3rd April.

The day before, Friday 29th April, AutoItalia is running a separate trackday event at nearby Chobham.

This is where AutoItalia do a lot of their photoshoots and a number of us have been round it. He is keeping a number of places open for coupe drivers.

If you would like to take part please contact him directly.

AUTO ITALIA DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Friday April 29th

Auto Italia magazine’s 2016 Brooklands Italian Car Day will be held on Saturday April 30th. To complement the event this year a driving experience for owners of selected Italian cars has been established at a nearby private test facility (and Auto Italia’s photo location) on Friday April 29th. With the events being held over consecutive days the intention is to offer Italian car owners the opportunity to take in two neighbouring venues.

This is not a conventional track day that places stress on both cars and drivers but an opportunity for owners to demonstrate their skills. The 2-mile circuit includes fast straights, banked corners and a hill in the ‘forest’ section. The demanding nature of the course requires the use of pace cars to control the groups of cars. Numbers will be limited so drivers will have plenty of laps.

Because the venue is not open to the public attendance needs to be pre-booked. In the first instance Italian car owners should apply to the organisers with registration details of the car they wish to enter. Subject to entry acceptance the cost will be £100 per car and £25 for a nominated additional driver. Closing date for all applications is April 15th. Further details will be published in Auto Italia. For entries contact

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 05/04/2016 21:10

I've being trying to get to the brooklands meet for years, but due to various reasons (mainly work commitments) I could never quite make it, anyway this year.....tickets are bought, hotel room paid for and the coupe is back on the road.

Much looking forwards to this, and putting some of the southern faces to their names.

I would love a blast on the test hill (Porto 20vt) if there are any available spaces on the day?

Anyway, roll on end of the month smile

The Test Hill may be difficult as I have already been back with one extra car after giving them a "final" list.

I will try though.

If you bend it, you have to mend it, Joe...

Just booked tickets for me and Anita. I'll have the tea and coffee and hot water and the tent, and Joe has will bring the flag (borrowed for the Bristol event the week prior).

We're normally parked next to Concord, left at the bottom of the hill as you enter, not right towards the embankment.

It is normally fluid until a week or so before the event.

There is a lot of restoration work going on at the museum for the next 18 months. They are moving aircraft hangars at the moment. When I was there in January a huge swathe of earth had been dug out by the finishing straight.

Never fear, the Brooklands marshals will put everyone together.

Would it be good to try and organise a group shot of all the coop's somewhere? Parking at this event usually means single rows that is not too conducive to getting a great looking group photo....

We could maybe organise a quick meet somewhere beforehand and then all convoy in laugh

Weybridge Tesco is less than a mile from brooklands. Big car park

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 10/04/2016 09:45

It's in Addlestone. From M25 J11 take A317 towards Weybridge, turn right at 2nd roundabout into Addlestone, over the level crossing and right at next roundabout into Tesco.

What time are people meeting there?

1 hour before we arrive at the event would probably be good.. Tesco also supplies coffee and bacon laugh ideal huh!

Yes I thought that after posting, but it would be a very short 1.5 mile convoy back up to the "Italian Cars only" entrance off the B374, hardly worth bothering with IMHO especially given the early opening time (but same as previous years IIRC?)

Yeah i agree with you there, it's not worth it for the sake of a convoy, was just thinking of somewhere close for patch's idea of pictures.
Personally It's pre-meet and convoy from the ace for me, even though it's quite a diversion it adds a cool element to the day

What time are you aiming to get there ?...I go past Ace at least twice a month on a journey to South London, and even on a Sunday it can take forever ! If you are coming from out of London its much easier to go round the M25..I,m stopping at my daughter in Tooting and even from there google reckon 40minutes

If there is a convoy from Tescos I am up for it

Phil has just let me know that there are still a few track places left and that he has now opened it up to spectators who can pre-book until 267th April.

A number of us have previously been to Longcroft, either to a rolling road session or as part of an AutoItalia photoshoot with our coupes and it's an interesting day out.

It's just off the M3 by Longcroft Studios on this map. Access is from Chobham lane.

AUTO ITALIA DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Friday April 29th

Places are still available for the Auto Italia Driving Experience to be held at Longcross test track on Friday April 29th.

Because the venue is not open to the public, attendance needs to be pre-booked. In the first instance Italian car owners should apply to the organisers with details of the car that they wish to enter. Subject to entry acceptance the cost will be £100 per car and £25 for a nominated additional driver. An optional Italian buffet lunch is available at £25 per person.

SPECTATOR OFFER !
Spectators are welcome at this private event strictly on a pre-booked basis. Come and see exotic Ferraris, Maseratis, Alfa Romeos and top Fiats being driven at high speed.
The entry cost is £25 per person with a free Italian buffet lunch and paddock access. Offer ends April 27th.

For all bookings contact Phil Ward on mail@philwardevents.com

We have been allocated the entire length of the Finishing Straight on the left hand side.

There is a lot of work taking place on site, behind us is a bloody great hole where they are excavating foundations for a hangar which is due to be moved.

Opposite us are Lancia and X1/9, on the banking past us is the Fiat Forum.

How will you know where to park, Pete? I mean, you've got the coupe, the x1/9, and the punto...

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 21/04/2016 22:37

That's why we are opposite the X1/9s Neil.

If I can get its new electrikery ignition sorted I'll probably take that one.

I'm taking the coupe to Longcross on the Friday.

Then the X1/9 is due on display at 8am the next day at Goodwood's Soft Top Sunday.

The Punto gets the weekend off.

U should try alfa as its nice daily , but becomes boring after some time as it does not offer as mutch excitement like coupe does smile
Keep in mind that is still italian car and will have some niggles to deal with .
On a 2.4 so far had
Dpf issues - sorted
Egr - history now
Manifold flaps - history too .
Injector plugs ( replaced by previus owner as originally diagnosed as issue ) turned out it was injection drivers in ecu.
Overall nice car smile

It has changed once more - we are now on the other side of the finishing straight towards the top with the x1/9s at the bottom.

The Lancias are now up on the banking.

I was at Brooklands yesterday and a contractors' compound takes up the middle of the finishing straight.

It's a good idea to do so Phil, There is a fast(er) track entry for ticket holders.

Don't forget everyone that you should use the Campbell Gate entrance which is off the B374 Brooklands Road. HERE.

It will be signposted for Italian Vehicles Only or similar words.

We're not on the banking as far as I know Joe, Fiat Forum have that honour. We're at the top of the finishing straight before the banking starts. I was offered it, but declined for the reason you mentioned.

Where the Lancias are is reasonably flat anyway as it is by the wall at the bottom of the banking just past the bridge.

Fantastic show at Brooklands today. Met many Coupe Club members (reminded me a bit of Auf Wiedersehn Pet with all the great accents there...)
Thanks to Peter and all those who made it possible for us to get together. Sad neither my turbo nor Vis would start but need to get my head down and sort out why.
With the Vis I had swapped the Lambda sensor lead plus lead emerging from loom close to the top of the rocker box (gearbox end)and bingo....she started but then died a few seconds later. It's a bit confusing as both lead plugs and sockets are identical. I need to check now why she dies after starting.....

Great day out and an excellent Autoitalia, good turn out of cars of all marques and think actually our new Coupe spot was alright.

Shame with the Lambo as I watched it happen straight in front of me, looked an expensive repair when I saw it waiting for recovery on the way out.

Thoroughly enjoyed our mini Coupe convoy up from Portsmouth with Chris, Gary and Richard, bit of fun and my first proper Coupe drive for 9 months....really missed driving the VIS cool

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 30/04/2016 23:59

From what my mate showed me on YouTube the rear wheel was at a funky angle. It didn't help he was driving like a bit of a plum on the wet hairpin so was only going to end one way frown

Good day out, I counted 38 coupes at one point, CC son counted 50 odd, so a very good turn out.

Sorry I didn't talk to many people or for long, but an old friend turned up that I hadn't seen in a year so took the opportunity to catch up with him.

Got photos of the Coupes on track and the hill, so will get the photos uploaded. If people want high res, just PM me and I'll chuck them across.

Not long been home after spending 4hrs at work changing Rosa'a downpipe, the second run up the test hill fractured the bellows in the felx so our drive home was noisy you might say sick
Great to see the usual faces and meet some new folk, thanks to Barry for the box of Ale, I'm sipping on one now as I think I've deserved it wink
Lovely classic you've got there Chris, it was refreshing to see an engine with twin carbs instead of injectors for a change.
Jake has the pictures of the day so I'll nab a copy when he's 'done his stuff' with them, shame about the Lambo armco mating, looked expensive!

Fiat forum really came out in force and a few things to think about when we all do another.
I havent attended a meet is such a while i forgot how good they are.

My brother coupe's was great again despite its looks.

The entrance to brooklands really set a scene for the day with hundreds of italian cars lined up with most things you could think of?

Was that you Phil plodding on the m40 as we came past?

Would you care to expand on what you mean matey?

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 01/05/2016 16:14

Just a few luxuries i think. Just a expansion on what we had at Brooklands. Certainly grateful ive what we had of course.

A gazebo? I know there was one a spa a few years ago. Nothing big and heavy just something foldaway that fits in the boot.
Fiat forum had a scheduled lunch, donut morning etc.
Maybe just some subway platters brought up.£18 for 16 sandwiches. For the cost of a burger down there you could just ask for a donation(if you wanted).

I know not feasible for all meets but for the big events, why not. Not huge expenditure. Heck if arranged well im sure we would chip in anyway as members. I certain would for my next one.

This was based on the numbers we had there. Must have been 40+ coupes and more members/forum users than that.

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 01/05/2016 16:40

Gazebo - We had one and discussed erecting it. Unfortunately we had no means of securing it to the concrete surface, and as I didn't have a couple of large concrete blocks in the Coupé we decided not to erect it. Sorry if you feel that was wrong but it was the assessment we made on the day frown

Breakfast - Lunch. This is a tough one as can see both sides. I am fairly sure that the organisers of such events dearly wish for those in attendance to use the on-site catering facilities who they have organised to provide for the event. Yes they are often expensive but everyone going knows that and has a choice before they arrive.

If we as an organisation choose to provide catering, as the Fiat Forum do, we are in effect undermining the event organisers wishes, why would we honestly wish to do that? If every club at the Auto Italia events chose to do the same thing as the Fiat Forum then the on-site caterers would not make money and not bother attending future events. Judging by how busy the units were, they were very popular.

As the Fiat Forum are now branching out into being an event organiser it will be interesting to see if they still participate in the practice of providing and undermining their organised on-site catering and bar facilities.

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 01/05/2016 17:24

Gazebo- Never said it was wrong at all. Just if there is one and as you said a way of tieing down its a nice luxury to have given us all running in packing the chair in and back out. Never knew you had one. I will look into weights maybe for the next one.

Lunch is fine, reading it back it sound like i don't wish to pay to use the catering. If fact we did and was decent. Just an additional idea to show good will/support to participants and members who attend with fccuk. An additional bonding point to attendees. It seemed a nice gesture.

Just looking at other clubs and seeing how they do things. It was a successful meet for fccuk and fiat forum. It was nice to see which formulas work and keep people attending the meets especially how we come across to potentially new members or people have never attended with us old members.

I see your point with the catering though.. Platter just for me next then! biglaugh

Yes i see the fiat forum are arranging there own event's. See how that thrashes out.

One final point on the Gazeebo. At an early SPA event a gazeebo did break free! There was some very minor damage caused to a Coupé and a very near miss, too close really, with the Lamborghinis parked below ooo

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 02/05/2016 18:18

Big thanks to PeteP for getting me on the track demo this year, after missing out last year. Really enjoyed being sandwiched between a Bugatti Veyron and a Pagani Huayra in my cheapo Fiat. laugh

Also got a good view when the Lambo crashed on the corner. shocked

Weather held off for the most part, and we managed to sneak in the back entrance behind some Ferraris. The Ferraris got waved through and the stewards didn't want to let us peasants in.... money talks. But we negotiated our way in with some good old British bull**t.

Amazing Coupe turn out, and good spot near the banking too.

Hope to be there next year. I'll post some pics/vid on the club page on FB.

Nice moonie by the way.... thumb

Good to meet you guys too. If you look at the youtube videos of the track demo, you can see us from the drone's view following that huge Lambo Humvee thing. Fame ! Hope you enjoyed it.

Turbo purchase didn't go to plan. I've posted in the Coupe chat section about it. It wasn't quite as good as the advert was making out. It did drive well though. The "thrust" in 2nd and 3rd was addictive.

See you next year ?

Shame he cost us time on the track. But still funny, how the chap thinks he needs
Turbos on the car I don't know !! He lost the car at what 40/50 mph biglaugh
Anyway yes probably see you next year there thumb
Going to look at the chat about the turbo now

Nice update on the Lambo Ross, wondered what the damage was and the cost!(still needs wheel refurb!) Glad the Merc has been sorted.

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 14/05/2016 22:39

Is that a replacement wheel with the deeper tread depth, or did the two different tyres contribute to his pirouette?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 15/05/2016 00:13

@Submariner - not quite there with th Merc yet, I went for an inspection visit, and I'm glad I did.....!

@Rob40 - I think it was a loan wheel as the suspension came from another doner Gallardo in the same shop. It also looks to be of a different width too.

The figure 700bhp was mentioned regarding it's power output laugh

Re: AutoItalia @ Brooklands 30th April 2016 - 15/05/2016 10:02

eBay suited my needs exactly Clint. Maybe not what you would use, and it can sometimes be trouble. But I sold my car a a good price in a short period of time when home. The buyer who got it in the end was an italian car fanatic, previously into GTV's ..... so a serious buyer and he got a serious car

Anyway, that's the difference between someone really knowing the market and someone assuming they know the market. Some people will always make and others will lose on the sale of a car wink

Yes, that was the guy. Never bought it anyway but he seemed to very keen to buy. Having the wife around when talking about buying cars, that will 'most likely' become an occasional use machine, is never a good move laugh
