Ross, does the runway session make us part of the "motoring demostration"?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/02/2014 13:26

You can opt into the Motoring Demonstration as part of the Runway application. I have, as you can do part of the Top Gear Test Track. They do say that it is advisable that due to a grass parade, 6" ground clearance is nessesary. Club members who did the parade last year will hopefully advise otherwise.

Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 22/02/2014 22:14

Yes. Unfortunately the weather was against us that day. I think fifty per cent of the airshow side was scrapped.
Our runway run was unexpected but due to the lack of airshow time we ended up being a filler. Also hence the low speed run, we were not actually sure at the time that we were supposed to be there!
We just followed the lead.

I'm sure in a bright sunny day, it would be a very nice day out.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 22/02/2014 23:16

On a sunny day it is a very nice day out wink
I think only about 10-20% of the aircraft made an appearance due to the appalling weather and low cloud. I still managed to do a speedo indicated 130mph though laugh
Now the weather can't do that to us twice, now can it chinny
Thanks for posting the videos thumb
What video system are you using? Nice touch with the map graphic and speed recording.

Hi all , would like to come along to this , been before and the Chinook display was stunning, don't think it's there this year unfortunately. Not sure if my coupe would be up to standards though , lacquer pretty much all peeled off the bonnet , roof , and boot lid starting to go too frown
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 03/07/2014 22:33

I'm not sure that we will have enough people for a static display area this year. Unless we get a surge of interest in the next couple of weeks, I won't be applying for a club zone.
As tickets are only discounted, I suggest if you'd like to come just apply for advanced tickets and park with the rest. smile

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 URGENT - 18/08/2014 12:05

OK, I have just spoken to them, they have an enormous cockup with their systems and have not got those of us who submitted an electronic entry down.

I have been asked to provide a list of real names to them asap to get things moving.

I know the real names of Pondman, Nismo, Thunderbox, begbie, hovedan,Cooperman, but I don't have the real name of Sharman.

Obviously they will need addresses to send tickets to so please pm them to me, as it is possible that the ones we have on the club membership database could be out of date.

EDIT I will also need registration numbers please.

Thanks Pete for your sterling work today! Are they sending out by post to all of us in person or to you for distribution?
If the latter then meeting up at that strange shopping centre near Dunsfold/Cranleigh might be a good idea- as last year?

I also presume that arrival before 8:30 am is required as last year?

How could they get it so wrong and how many of the applicants DID apply on line? If they did then not that many will be there!!

Hi all, just caught up with this now having just got in.
Well that's spooky, I too tried to get hold of Niel Sinclair today too, how funny. To also see what was going on! But got no reply from reception let alone the man himself.
No record of entries! OMG shocked

What an almighty cock-up, this system of not letting you know if you are entered or not is not fit for purpose! What a shambles it makes Brooklands team look. And that is being polite!

Pete, thanks for taking the reigns, let me know if you need further info for me and any additional help in organising it. Let's hope they now pull their finger out!

Re: Wings & Wheels Screwed up! - 19/08/2014 16:00

They have screwed up royally and there is no place for us in the demonstrations but have offered 2 complementary tickets to the event to each of us.

Motoring Demonstrations

Important Notification

Dear Applicant

We have been overwhelmed by applications for the runway motoring demonstrations this year and recently the extent of a problem with some electronic entries which meant they were not registered at the time of application has become clear.

It has become necessary to limit the number of cars running on each day and therefore I have to inform you that it will not be possible to process your application.

Our sincerest apologies for this late development, rest assured that steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence for the 2015 event and that details of those who have been affected by this will be noted so they can be given suitable priority treatment for next years event.

By way of apology we would like to offer 2 complimentary Adult Day ticket(s) for this years event. If you would like to receive these please advise the name and address to which they should be sent by e-mail to eventsadmin@brooklandsmuseum.com.
.
It will however be necessary to park in the public parking areas as the motoring demonstration paddock will be allocated solely to those cars running that day.

Thank you for your support and forebearance

Neil Sinclair

I have said that we are not happy, this is the email I sent in return:

Hello Ian,

Thanks, but that is not really the answer is it?

You have all the addresses of these disappointed people, so I suggest you send them the complementary tickets without any delay.

People have booked a place in this event since February and to be quite honest I cannot see them being at all happy with this offer.

I am certainly not.

As we all expected to be taking part in the demonstrations we did not even book a club space where we can gather. It simply is not the same being an individual in a crowd without having our own meeting place.

Perhaps you would like to arrange that for us?

We need space for the coupes and a 3m square event shelter.

I suspect that our members will be most reluctant to set aside space to participate next year unless you do something to rectify the appalling booking method where applicants are not informed unless they have been unsuccessful.
They have been under the impression that they would be putting on a show for the public for 6 months now and have made arrangements to do so, at the same time enjoying a day out.

It does not extend simply to Wings and Wheels.

Our members participate in all the AutoItalia events at Brooklands, I cannot see them being as keen to attend as in the past.

Ultimately this could reflect on your revenue. Even now I have an email waiting for me from Phil Ward asking me if we will be going to the Autumn Motorsport Festival.

I will make the contents of this email available to those who expressed an interest together with the attachment you sent.

In the meantime, perhaps you could consider the merits of arranging a Fiat Coupe Club pitch as some sort of recompense.

Regards,

Pete Pearson. FCCUK President.

Re: Wings & Wheels Screwed up! - 19/08/2014 16:32

Peter,
What a fiasco! I have heard from friends in the Honda S2000 club that they have had their tickets (applied for online) for some weeks, which p*sses me off somewhat! Especially because, as you said in your letter, I applied for these in February!

I congratulate you on a stonking good letter however and I believe we should let Phil Ward know the depth of our (collective) feelings? If there is the offer of a FCCUK pitch I might be minded to show up, if for no other reason than we can demonstrate our commitment and ability to organise a drinking session in a brewery! If not then the Bank Holiday weekend is completely free to do other things.

I will definitely look forward to Sheridan Bowie's annual get together at Honnington (registration accepted!), Hope to see others too?

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 19/08/2014 17:20

OK.

We now have a club stand on each day
so please let us have a good turnout to demonstrate, as Thunderbox suggests, that we can organise a pissup in a brewery.

They have missed the post tonight so tickets and passes will be sent out 1st post tomorrow morning directly to participants.

We are getting 2 tickets per car, the wristbands will need to be saved for admission on Sunday if you are doing both days.

Unfortunately we will have a different pitch each day so can't leave stuff up overnight.

We need to be there before 9am latest both days as the public start coming in then. Gate staff will be on duty much earlier than that to let us in.

I still don't have an address for Sharman, so they are sending his tickets to me.

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 19/08/2014 18:32

Thanks again Pete for firing a rocket up-em! grr

It seems a bit odd that they should send me a reminder to join in, in July if they were "over subscribed" crazy

I feel partly responsible for not chasing this up earlier, so sorry for that frown
But as Pete and I have said the registration process is a joke! I doesn't take much for someone to send a simple email saying "Application received" & "Application accepted" now does it!

I hope this doesn't put people off from coming in the future, it is a good day out if the weather is fine (let's hope). And you never know this almighty COCK-UP! might just change the very procedure of application, let's live in hope and pray for good weather smile

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 19/08/2014 19:16

We will be there on Saturday but will be leaving before the end of the day as our friends are having a leaving party in the evening. Always assuming they do send out the ticket so we get them on Friday!!

Thanks for the efforts you've taken on this and as you and Ross have said, they are a total shower and need a better and simplier system.

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 19/08/2014 19:40

We now have family tickets which are being sent out by a different office.

Quote:
Hi Peter,

I will post all your tickets tomorrow. You each have a family ticket instead of 2 adults tickets, as we are running very low on adult tickets so we are giving family away instead for you. This permits 2 adults and 3 children between ages of 5-15. So if you did have any that would like to join you feel free to bring them along at your leisure.

I have sent you two for you and Sharman.

Best Wishes,

Emily

Pete

Many thanks for sorting this and I must say I'm quite disappointed with the whole last minute thing especially since I got the same email Ross mentioned about with extending the runway runs. I bet when they sent that email they hadn't realised a lot of people had applied and they hadn't received their electronic confirmation, until someone pointed something out and realised it was their cloud9 up.

Anyway, I'll be there on the Saturday smile

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 09:43

Until now I was unsure if I could make this one. Now I can, will there be a coupe area? It seems most if not all are taking part in the Runway.

You need to read above, none of us will be doing the runway this year and instead, are having a club stand

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 10:41

Reading back over this thread it's a total fiasco. Shame everyone who had applied for the runway have now been so badly let down.

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 10:42

Emily tells me that all the tickets have now been sent out so we should get them tomorrow.

Alex (Sharman) she has sent yours to me as they were done before she got your address, so I can either post them on to you (risky) or meet early Saturday and hand them over. Are you going to be there anyway with your Alfa? if so, it may be academic.
Posted By: Countrycruising

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 10:52

I ordered my tickets online Saturday night and they arrived yesterday smile

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 18:30

ok ive just caught up on this whole fiasco as ive not had internet for a week, and im fizzing !! spent 200 quid last week getting oil changed, tracking done and wheels balanced ready for this.
And really confused too, i made 2 applications one straight after the other ( one for alfa one for coupe) . maybe 3 minutes apart.
they sent me the wrist bands and demonstration pass for alfa (im hoping that means runway !?!?) but not for the coupe, so electronic problems my ar#e !
Posted By: PeteP

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 19:04

Do you need me to send on your coupe tickets in the post Alex or shall I give them to you on Saturday?

Demo pass does mean runway.
Posted By: sharman

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 19:24

ok thats dropped my blood pressure a good amount as my alfa has cost me over 500 quid last weekend, due to servicing it ready for this event i ended up with a sheared spark plug.
if you hold on to the tickets pete ill get them off you.

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 23:00

Shall we meet at the The Three Compasses close to the entry gate for the static display site or at Smithbrook Kilns which is just around the corner and where we met last year?
Posted By: PeteP

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 23:10

No strong views either way on this one although The Three Compasses is nearer the gate we use for static displays.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 20/08/2014 23:20

My personal preference would be The Three Compasses, as said, closer to the access point for the static site entrance smile
I'll be going on Saturday as Joe is stealing my car at the end of the day wink

Thanks Pete for sorting out this fiasco of organisation!

That's assuming I receive a ticket!

On the basis we DO get our tickets on time- just to confirm that Jean and I will be coming for Saturday and meeting at the Three Compasses is ideal for us (as we're coming from the south). Meet up by 8:30am?

Only a single ticket though, valid for either Satuday or Sunday.
Posted By: PeteP

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 21/08/2014 10:47

it's actually both days Ross, have a read of the accompanying letter which tells us our pitches for each day. That is probably why Emily told us to retain any wristbands for Sunday if we are doing both days. It covers 2 adults and 3 children.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 21/08/2014 10:53

But the ticket says "VALID ON ONE DAY ONLY" confused
Posted By: PeteP

Re: Wings & Wheels 23-24th August 2014 - 21/08/2014 10:56

See my edited comment. Why we need to keep the wristbands we will be given on entry Saturday.

1 hour to get off the airfield, then a further hour to drive 18 miles home. Just a single lane of traffic out through the exit gate.

It took 30 minutes to get there this morning.

Plus a marshall who could not see a bloody great green label in the windscreen going in.

I will be there on Sunday, but just as a regular punter. Do you have a FCCUK area in the paddock with all the cars parked together? Hopefully I will get to see some of you and the cars during the day. The wife and children will be there so try not to ruin the 'they are so cheep to buy and run, practical, reliable' line I have been spinning. smile

Cooperman,

Why no runway runs? Do you mean just us Coopsters on Sunday or was the whole thing 'cancelled'? Just adding to my Brooklands paranoia! We had a good time on Saturday except for more ineptitude regarding exit from the show! (What if there had been a major incident?)

Great day, albeit the occasional chill. Got lots of photo's which I'll sort out soon enough. Getting out was just plain stupid. If I followed the correct way, we would have been queued far longer than doing a 180 turn and cutting across the grass cutting out a queue of 100+ cars.

As for the conspiracy theory about us, I've read on Pistonheads that a few people also had their applications 'lost' and speaking to someone I used to work with, they had cocked up on their applications as well.
