Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 17/02/2008 19:00

Getting the Coupe back this week hopefully, and am awaiting a PRV from Martyn at demon tuning - so that should be on soon. \:\)

How much will this session cost (roughly) guys? \:\? It makes sense to have the fuelling done properly after all this work (new valve & re-seating + head gasket). Do you get a bhp figure as well? The only other snag is that the available slots clashes with Ireland v Wales in the Six Nations!

Posted By: MattM

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 17/02/2008 21:49

i think MABR said its £40 and that includes fuelling, boost and power checking. So its good value! im sure someone will confirm this soon

OK - I'm in. Does anyone want to swap time slots for the morning (or can I watch the rugby locally!? \:D )? \:\?

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 18/02/2008 02:35

Looks tempting but how do they provide air to the intercooler. Thats what I love about Powerstation - the biggest fan/turbine ive ever seen that would knock you off your feet!

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 18/02/2008 04:12

they have a huge fan that they wheel in front of the car. The price is 40 quid from what i remember.

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 18/02/2008 05:06

I'm up for this if there's room.

Got a standard LE but it'd still be nice to see how everything's running after 89 thou. Only 10 miles away too.

I'll take any slot, I'm easy, just stick me on the list where you want MABR and I'll be there.

Sorry for the delay in responding folks - had a few "off days" recently.

Right the updated list is as follows;

Saturday 8th March

£40.00 per car

9.00am MABR
9.30am AndyM
10.00am Taffy
10.30am Bilbo
11.00am Cheesy
11.30am MattW
12noon clay99
12.30pm MattM
1.00pm mona
1.30pm Tynhead
2.00pm
2.30pm

I've spoken to Dyno Demon today and have the following information;

Extra slots are still available (I've extended the time slots above) so if anyone else is interested?

@ Jap - The cooling fan used is almost 60 inch diameter so there shouldn't be any problems there! \:\)

@ mona - I'll swap timeslots with you but you'd probably need a really early start from yours to get there for 9.00am? Up to you as I'll be there all day anyway. \:\)

Cheers for the offer MABR - I'll stick with the 1:00 p.m. slot, as I value sleep over rugby any day! (I can always record it, or watch the highlights!) \:\)

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 20/02/2008 04:05

I might have to pull out \:\(

New turbo has suddenly started making whistling noises and smoking, if it's about to die then I wont be able to get it ready in time. Maybe I should go last and put someone else in my 11:30 slot for now, see how it's going nearer the time?

Matt, you're having no luck mate - hope you manage to get things sorted.

I'll adjust the list and put you last and leave the 11.30 slot open if anyone wants to take it - mona?

Today it was a lot warmer, the whistle had greatly subsided and not a trace of blue smoke. Maybe I will be there after all \:D

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 22/02/2008 03:18

@ Mattw - if you are not going, could I have your slot (or we swap slots now) please? That would be excellent timing for me if poss! \:\)

Just got mine back from the garage today - newly skimmed head & re-set valves. They struggled to get the PRV working properly, so will leave it to the guys in Dyno Demon - would they be able to set it up to work properly & adjust the boost for me in that session?! \:\? For the moment, I am treating her like a virgin i.e. only using a smidge of boost!! \:D

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 22/02/2008 03:20

You can have the 11:30 slot mona and I'll go last, no problem with that.

Is anyone with a GT28R/RS/RSR going to be there? I'm planning to get one at some point and would like to see one in action! How it delivers power, what it sounds like, etc...

Matt you're just paranoid. The smoking is due to the cold weather. All the other cars are doing it too, just look around \:\)

Anyway I hope you all polish your cars beforehand as i might come along just to take pictures \:\)

No it was blue smoke, and I've seen pleeeeenty of turbo smoke before so I can tell the difference. \:D It was whistling too, when it was freezing cold. Still is a bit, when it spools. Not perfect but maybe it will hold together for a while longer yet \:\)

That's a very kind offer Mark. \:\) However, the downside is that Matt's bank balance may take a hammering after he's drove yours! \:D

What kind of power are you hoping for Mark?

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 22/02/2008 14:44

really depends what I do with the turbo! I've had months to think about it but still can't make my mind up 100%!

If I stick with the RS, then I'm pretty much at its limit already! I may be able to get to 380bhp at a push! but will have more lower down with the headwork!

If I swap to something like a GT2871R with larger injectors then I should easily be looking at over 400bhp! its just the issue with mapping the injectors that I'm concerned about! \:\)

Thanks Mark, very kind offer, maybe it would be better for me to ride as a passenger rather than drive, so you/ross/taffy can push it to a limit you are comfortable with, I wouldnt want to feel like I was 'ragging' someone elses car... \:D

I was on the rollers in January and the injector light came on briefly a few times, but has never come on on the road. Maybe the error code that caused it will still be there...

It's not that bad yet, but it will get worse over the next month or two. Just a bit of blue smoke for a couple of minutes on cold start up at the moment, once warmed up it's fine.

that's blue smoke, not condensation ;\)

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 08/03/2008 21:33

Its quite amazing how some of the stock coops with just a chip and afew little bits can make such good power (mona), and the cars with bigger turbos, fmic, gtec 2 chips seems to struggle.
I noticed the same on my rr i had all the mods and only made 250 bhp and 220 torque but the other totally stock coop got 240 bhp and 245 torque.

You got some nice torque there MABR, must be nice to drive.

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 08/03/2008 21:42

As i said to MABR on the phone, i think the results may be "out" slightly. Some of the figures dont make sense, esp MABR's as hes getting 280lb/ft at 1.2 bar midrange?

Ross
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 08/03/2008 21:52

You must have been pleased with that Craig! \:D

If the results were out how come many of the other standard ones were getting the right figures? Or do you think everyone was getting a bit too high torque figures?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 08/03/2008 21:56

I think so.

Not wanting to piss on anyones parade, but generally when the torque is higher than the bhp, it means they havent held the boost long enough or they run alot more midrange than redline.

I made 278lb/ft with my 28r running 1.38 bar midrange on a prv. But only made 264bhp at 5800rpm @ 0.9 bar.

I'm well pleased with the figures that I got. \:\) \:o I never expected to get more than standard power. I'm just glad that it's running healthily though.

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 08/03/2008 23:12

I only just made it to this event, car was very poorly on the way, put it on rollers purely for diagnostic reasons. Ran about 120bhp and running very very lean the guys said. one of them then spotted i had a small split in the hose on the inlet manifold-where ive got my boost gauge connected to-which will lead to the AFR? they chopped an inch off, stuck it back on and all problems were solved! then ran 260bhp, very happy with that. Thanks to MABR for organising, and the chaps at dyno demon were very good. Been having a few probs with motor in last few weeks-seems all it was in the end was a poxy split hose!

NAME: Jap

MODS: GT28R / FMIC / Gtech 2 HF Chip / 3 Inch Downpipe / PRV / K & N Panel Filter

BHP: 269.5
TORQUE: 270

I went along to Dyno Demon for a fuelling check primarily. I just swapped all the tuning goodies from my 300bhp sprinty blue onto the LE and this was the first time it was tested. To be honest I was expecting more peak power but I was only running 1.2 bar 'cause I'm paranoid I'm going to blow it up using more.

They said my fuelling was "spot-on" and they were very impressed with the torque curve as well.

My boost peaked at 1.18 bar and quite quickly tailed off to about 0.8 by about 6000rpm, by which time the car was well passed peak power.

One thing I noticed from the graphs was that peak power was pre-6000prm. Is it the dyno or is it us?

Hmmmm.

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 09/03/2008 01:55

If the boost didnt drop off as much then the power would have risen more, and peak power would be later.

I think you'd see a fair bit more power with a good EBC... ??

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 09/03/2008 02:13

You'll be glad to know that I got back in one piece guys - with the Coupe being driven gingerly on the advice of Steve!! (And I stopped at the Plough in Q'ferry to watch Wales win the triple crown! \:\) )

Really enjoyed the meet & chatting to you guys - got some good pointers from today & the DD boys were excellent - Steve has shown me the error of my ways i.e. 1.8 bar can be terminal for the internals long term!! \:o Looks like I will be selling the 2nd car to fund a decent EBC (Greddy, probably) as it will indeed be cheaper than (another) engine rebuild! Anyone want an Audi Avant TDi - going cheap!? ;\)

Thanks to Craig for the organisation, the DD guys for the advice about the next steps post-RR, and to Jap for help with the PRV. I'll try & post up some piccies (shame about the weather - that's the 2nd one I've been to now with grey skies & rain!) when I get a chance.

I was very surprised, but delighted that I got such high figures (not so after the boost & fuelling was pointed out by Steve) - and I've now got a nice graph to frame! \:D Money well spent (bargain, actually) & I hope to go to the next one that is organised there post-greddy (or de-tune!).

@ MABR - cheers fella - did you get 273 bhp? I thought it was 271?? \:\?

@ Tynhead - I think you were in front of me near the North Wales border (was a red Coupe) - one of your tail lights is out (offside)!

@clay99 - your Coupe was going fine when it hammered past at the traffic lights near the Toyota dealership off the A550!

Power and torque graph (notice peak bhp at about 5600rpm!?)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y165/jamesperks/SSL22271.jpg

Wheel power, Air-fuel ratio and boost graph (they were very happy as the fuel richened to about 10:1 as soon as the boost kicked in but thought it got a little too rich towards the top end. Boost of just 0.9bar at max power!?)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y165/jamesperks/SSL22270.jpg

Any ideas/comments?

James

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 09/03/2008 15:42

Well your fueling is too rich. It's very safe, but running 10.5 AFR will be loosing you a little bit of power, try a normal G-Tec II and you should see somewhere around 11 - 11.5.

As for the power, if you had held the boost to around 1.1bar throughout the range then you would have seen another 20-30bhp and been back to around 300bhp.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 09/03/2008 15:51

Thanks Flea - that just the sort of feedback I need.

I'm going to pop the Gtec II back in, get my straight induction pipe on and get an electronic boost controller I think.

What else can I do to help boost apart from possibly getting an EBC?

Hi mona, yeah mine was 273. I decided not to say anything as you looked chuffed to get highest figure of the day, well until you found out what 1.8 Bar will do to your engine anyway. \:\) Glad you got home OK mate.

One thing I think yesterday did show was the clear difference between a PRV and an EBC. For the money PRV's are a bargain but if you want reliable control, you pay your money... \:\) I actually sold my original Greddy then got offered another at silly money and I'm sooo glad I did. \:D

Once I've found a scanner, I'll get my graphs up so the experienced among us can pass judgement. \:D Can't get a detailed photo of them with my camera. \:mad\:

Originally, I'd set out to achieve @ 300bhp and my current setup was just a step towards that. However, If I get similar figures at another RR, I'll probably just concentrate on brakes / suspension as I cant justify spending @ £1K for what would probably be an extra 30bhp. \:\?

Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 09/03/2008 16:12

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 09/03/2008 16:15

I ran 1.2 bar on the rollers due to being parinoid about it going pop :). I now run 1.3bar and its been fine and seems to prefer it to 1.2.

With a ebc jap you will hold better boost higher up. When i had a prv my boost tailed off abit but not as much as yours. After fitting the blitz i run 1.15/1.2 bar redline it makes a huge difference and the best thing i brought.

The 3 main EBC's on here in terms of popularity seem to be;

Greddy Profec B
Blitz SBC iD-III
Apexi AVCR

For some strange reason, I'm a fan of the Greddy. \:D

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 09/03/2008 16:32

I brought a blitz dual sbc. Its the older model but got it at a good price and they still use the same solinoid for the new ones.
I liked this one as its nice and small like the greddy but it has 4 different boost settings and i think is alot easier to setup then the greddy. But they all do about the same thing so i guess it depends on the price you can get one for

Don´t just see it as £1K for another 30 HP. You also get a turbo that is more efficient and better than the original turbo. And with some extra headwork you´ll see 330 HP.

Not sure really the best person to organise at the SXOC would be SteA he organised the last one for us at Dyno Demon. I think he is our NW rep.

The SXOC went in November last year and looking on this thread it would seem about 20 went. (I didn't go though)

No pressure then \:D I'm sure you could convince Ross to bring his too, just because he is crazy! \:D

How fast were they getting through the cars? 20+ cars from SXOC is pretty good going!

Someone give me a shout in a month or two and we will start getting an SXOC v FCCUK shootout organised at dynodemon \:\)

The bad news, or maybe not depending on you guys, is that we will likely have lots of cars running around 350 - 400 on those rollers ;\) Losers buy dinner?

We wont have many cars much over 400 though, I know you have some big power cars kicking around so we could get a shock! I'm enjoying my car too much to put the huge turbo on thats sat in my bedroom ;\)

Get that graph up Craig! Stewards' enquiry!! \:D Yep, agree with you about the PRV v Greedy - will have to invest in one VERY soon! I can recommend upgrading the barkes & suspension - it takes the whole Coupe experience to another level. Me & Tynhead (& Cowboy) have recently been converted to the Whiteline ARB. The confidence to know you can stop the beast with that power gives you a warm feeling too!

I'm up for a Summer RR session post-mods too - not sure about a Scooby v Coupe meet though - I don't like losing! \:P I was talking to the big guy that turned up afterwards in the light coloured Scooby - he was running 350bhp!

Here are my pics of the session:

Atmospheric Lighting (OK, it was overcast!)

Got most of the way there already \:D

...and still on a standard turbo. Once I put Ross' 28R on and get an AVCR / Profec B that should see me up to 300 ish, might need mapping though which I probably wont be able to do before June.

Nigel, that'd be great. \:\) As Ross has said, we'll need some of you big power boys there on the day as the SXOC seem to take these things very seriously. \:\)

I've already offered to run this around TOTB 7 so it'd be a nice "shakedown" for the competitors. \:D

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 10/03/2008 21:14

I've just spoken to Julian at Dyno Demon and the only weekend available in June / July is 5th / 6th July. The British GP is on the 12th / 13th and they are unavailable on the last 2 weekends in June.

As it's Summer, they'll stay open till early evening and reckon they can get through 30 cars throughout the day with the same levels of attention / service etc. \:o

I'll now contact Ste on the SXOC then post up a new Thread with details. \:\)

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 11/03/2008 03:20

MABR - just like me you had max bhp at fairly low revs - 5300rpm. Is this normal can anyone tell us?

James

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 11/03/2008 03:21

it would be lower on a standard turbo, it runs out of puff! on a GT28R it should be higher up the rev range!
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 11/03/2008 03:24

standard boost on a standard turbo would be 5750 max power wouldnt it?

So if you increase the boost then because it's falling back down more steeply from a higher level max power would be a bit sooner....

I think
Posted By: Freddan72

Re: Dyno Demon Rolling Road Day - Saturday 8th Mar - 11/03/2008 11:32

I had 277 hp at 5200 rpm (standard turbo) and 274hp at 5500 so very similar to you MABR.
MABR don´t you have more than 280 lb/ft?

Sorry Clay, I have got a video of you on the rollers after all. Uploading it now so you should see it on here in a bit. 98.8Mb so may take a while.

BTW my missus spotted you on Queensferry bypass a couple of days ago, and reminded me that we were checking out your car in BK carpark a couple of weeks ago (posted in 'coupe spotting') Don't know if you clocked me, her plus daughter gawping as we left.

Thought it looked familiar when you turned up at the RR, but couldn't place it...
