my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 25/01/2008 22:22

I had my first rolling road at noble motorsport in chesterfield today. Me and paul from the forum both went, My car has hybrid turbo, cat back, h&s 2.75"dp, sip, apexi, walbro fuel pump, fuel pump mod, bkur7et's and gtec2
I was very disappointed with my run \:\( as it only made 250.4bhp at 6235 and 221.4ibft at 3344. Both are very low for my setup. My afr is nearly spot on though running 11.2 from 3750rpm to red line, at 3k when boost starts its at 11.9. My boost is very nice and flat too, just not enough power.
When i spoke to the rolling road runner he said the graph looks like i have restriction in my exhaust, and after a good chat we decided that my aftermarket cheap cack cat is doing it (its only 2" diameter so big blockage) He said it was still pulling when it hit the limiter though, so with a decat he thinks my power and torque will be up quite alot.

Any advise from fellow coopers would be great as i am gutted getting only 250bhp and must have a problem.

heres the pic of the graph-

I was running 1.25 bar boost too so could take that up abit.

That sounds a little low Ash, are you running an FMIC ?

I'm thinking of going to Powerstation, Tewksbury for a run myself soon, if you fancy coming along ?

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 25/01/2008 22:34

Yeh i got a fmic with the shortest possible routing, He did say that near the rev limiter it was at 50 degrees so abit warm, so i might need a bigger intercooler to help abit. It really is low for the setup, not sure if this 2nd engine is a slow one \:\(

When are you going mike as i might be interested as i am looking into a decat and would like to know what its doing, next run i am upping boost to 1.35 \:\)

50 degrees is really high if you are using a FMIC. Did they have decent cooling fans?

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 25/01/2008 22:59

I don't know we wasn't allowed to see or be near our cars, which i was abit miffed about. I have not a clue of there setup as it was in a single unit with the doors down. I could hear my dump valve going off but thats all i heard.

What FMIC u running?

The shape seems good on the torque and bhp, but its like the graph is on the wrong scale. Let it breathe and away ya go.

\:\) i was waiting for you to come online ross. I have a universal fmic which might be a tad small so i am looking into getting another one. But on the road the temps don't go higher then 35 even when giving it lots. So i am thinking it was hot in the little cell my car was in.
I think with a decat it will be alot happier.

I personally would get a tried and tested FMIC. Evo 6 would be my recommendation.

Yeh i got all the pipes for mine at the mo all set up, just need one abit bigger. The evo is too big and hard to fit, and most of the intercooler is covered by the front beam and bumper. I will try look into it though.

I was thinking the same mark_s when he brought the print out out i nearly cried \:\) was well gutted, i am a good 20/30bhp down and 50ibft of torque down. I am going to fit a decat, get a bigger intercooler and go somewhere else for the rolling road, see what i get then.

Maybe the figures are at the wheels?

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 26/01/2008 22:48

Yeh could be if so then thats very good \:\) it doesn't say anything on the sheet about flywheel power or at wheels power. I was just presuming there flywheel power.
I have got my 2.5" exhaust tubing now just need to get a flange and weld it on then thats my decat \:\)

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 28/01/2008 21:42

how quick is it on the road Ash - could you keep up with JBT's Bravo ???

I won't be booking into Powerstation until I get my new clutch fitted....

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 28/01/2008 22:57

How many runs did they do - presume this was the best of 2-3 consistent runs once the operator was satisfied the car was warmed up and running properly?

I must admit, seems slightly strange to run a rolling road "behind closed doors" without you there, and then not tell you whether they were at wheel or at fly figures.

Noble have a decent reputation don't they? - name sounds familiar \:\?

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 29/01/2008 00:02

As far as i know they only did one power run, heard him warming it up, slow revving then one big rev (power run i am guessing)
Yeh i was abit miffed at not being able to watch my own car run on the dyno and i did pay good money (£70 power run and quick fueling check) My car was on the rollers for about 20 mins, 10/15 mins of them was warming up.

After mine was run though he jumped straight into pauls coupe and pulled that in, i didn't here anything about my car for a further 45 mins. I didn't know if it ran ok or he had problems, i was very nervous. He then came out chatted abit about why i had a dip at high revs, he was friendly though.

Yes noble do have a very good reputation, but i won;y be going back again.

Mike, i am not sure if it would, don't think its as fast at johnnys but not able to find out though :(. Car seems very quick on the road but feels like its holding back at higher revs though.
I am in the process of making a decat and porting my manifold, so will see what power that gives me.

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 29/01/2008 03:12

I used Noble Motorsport last year and I thought it was abit strange not being able to watch the run.
Over the past 6 month or so I've heard alot of bad stories about them so I'm considering using someone else this time.

What was their reason for not watching the run? what are they wanting to hide?

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 01/02/2008 00:01

Ive been using Nobles for 10 years and when John Noble was running it you were allowed to watch!! However at some point for some uknown reason (perhaps when Peter took over running the place) they stopped allowing people to watch!! Its annoying but i DO trust them as theyve looked after 2 of my cars.
Coupe hasnt been there yet but perhaps ill take it somewhere else where i can watch?!?

\:\) yeh i was very disappointed at not watching and my power output but i am looking into the reason why and hopefully will be getting what the mods should be.

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 01/02/2008 01:11

Mines got a Gtir hybrid, powerflow exhaust, dawes set at 1 bar and forge dump valve and Gtec, i wouldnt mind seeing what diference there is between them if youre up for it one time, id also like to get it set up to 1.1 or 1.2 bar and get a bhp output so if youre considering a RR soon let me know?!?!?!

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 01/02/2008 02:26

Yes matt i will be going for another rr soon, hopefully with alot more power. I will look into other places and let you know.
I run my gtir at 1.3 bar on a gtec 2 and the fueling is spot on.

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 06/02/2008 03:59

I think these chips either go like stink or stop around 250 ish ash...
Yet Taffys coupe whent like fccuk with a gtec2 chip.Kept up with Fleas coupe on the 1/4.
Mine was 260 with all my mods.Only thing i changed was the livemap which took it to 305.
If it aint fuelling right or aint got the right advance then its game over.
Fmic on yours is twice the size of mine.

Re: my first rolling road at noble motorsport - 07/02/2008 00:00

My fueling was spot on on the rolling road at 1.3bar, but he told me my cat and intercooler was restricting my power. I how have a bigger intercooler to fit and its now decatted.
My intercooler thats on at the mo john is about half the size of your old one on your bravo. Mines is quite short and won't be upto the job in summer.
