Went to Surrey rolling road yesterday just to satisfy my curiosity and check that the car was behaving as it should. I'd appreciate any comments on the graphs below. Car is a standard 20VT plus with a gtec 1.

Just about perfect and exactly what would be expected on a G-Tech'd Coupe

The boost spike as it spools is a little high, but it soon pulls back, so probably not worth worrying about

I'd say you should be pleased with these results - what mileage has the car done?

Thanks. That was sort of my gut feel but I wasn't very confident as I have very little experience really.

Boost spike was mentioned as being a bit high but it looked like a brief overboost to me so probably nothing to worry about as you say.

I am pleased and it confirms that the car is nice and healthy - 87k miles 2000 car which I've had from day 1 smile

Following on from the Surrey results last year, James recently came to Bristol for a Stage 1 remap having previously discussed what he wanted from the car and the benefits this would bring. The Surrey dyno showed the car to be running ok, albeit a little low on power given the chip upgrade. Anyway, first up was to run it up on our dyno to get a good baseline before any mapping took place.

As presented (Standard + G-Tec 1 chip)
231bhp @ 5961rpm
234lbs/ft @ 4740rpm
191 wheel power @ 5682rpm

We did two runs the first giving slightly less power at 227bhp & 231lbs/ft. What is interesting here is that the power and torque are almost identical to the Surrey Dyno Dynamics, with peak power being made at the same 5900rpm. The main difference was the air fuel ratio, which proved to be a lot richer going into the mid-10s. This was corroborated by my own lambda against the dyno lambda, so suggests that the SRR lambda was perhaps a little off that day.

So to the mapping, well for a totally standard car, the biggest gains are always made within the mid-range as this is where the turbo and engine are most efficient. Although not quite as extreme, we will also see gains off-boost and with part throttle thus making the car more drivable and responsive. For James’s car, given that we could not increase boost beyond what he was already running, it is very satisfying to be able bring everything else into perfect harmony in order to effect a significant increase in performance and enjoyment. The results were excellent in this regard, showing immediately in the first drive on the road.

FC Stage 1
247bhp @ 5608rpm
260lbs/ft @ 4358rpm
216 wheel power @ 5233rpm

Great to see a well looked after Plus that James has owned from new cool I didn't mention this on the day (had to double check), but James's Coupe was number 500 that has received an FC Performance upgrade smile

I have to say, that after I got the car back from you Flea, it has been driving beautifully. It has made a very noticeable difference and feels significantly better which I hadn't really expected to be as noticeable given the numerical increases made.

It's also interesting that that the SRR dyno and the one you used gave the same results - I had expected some variation as you did.

Congratulations on your landmark 500th Coupe remap! As everyone else has said after visiting you, I can't recommend your work highly enough - you spent a long time getting my car just right with a high attention to detail and were a thoroughly nice person to deal with. All in all, an excellent experience.

One question that has literally just popped into my head reading those results above - the flywheel power has gone up by 16bhp, but the wheel power has gone up by 25 bhp. Any idea why this is the case?

This is... strange. My mate had his standard 20vT mapped by Leighton back in November 2009. Here are the results:

FC Stage 1
247.3bhp @ 5636rpm
259.5lbs/ft @ 4418rpm
216.8 wheel power @ 5263rpm

His name is James laugh
