16VT Brakes - 15/10/2014 13:38

I'm sure this must have been done to death, but I'm doing a lot of work to my coupe and thought I could also treat it to some new brakes when my bank balance recovers.

So, best discs and pads for a 16vt?

these discs should do the trick -

I use mtec disc's on my coupe without any problems and have done a few track days with them too .

Also, which pads do you typically use?

I use yellow stuff pads but some folks don't like them and also depends on what your be using the car for , fast street , track days , 1/4 mile ?

Fast street is the goal, but a few track or drag days are definitely the plan as well

Re: 16VT Brakes - 16/10/2014 08:13

Recently I've done a complete rebuild of my 16VT Lucas callipers and I bought MTEC brake discs and EBC yellow stuff pads. I'm using my car mainly as a daily car. The yellow stuff pads are ineffective when they are cold and when they've warmed up they are not so good either. For example yesterday in a distance of 5km I made 4 stops from 200km/h to 80km/h and then one stop from 100km/h to 0 and the pads start to smoke and my brake efficiency was totally lost. So I'm going to upgrade my car with 166 brembo callipers and some better pads...

Are 166 brembos bolt ons or are other modifications required?

Re: 16VT Brakes - 16/10/2014 15:32

they need modifications to make them fit .

Re: 16VT Brakes - 16/10/2014 18:17

i had Ebc green stuff pads all round and EBC groved and drilled front discs ......... absolute rubbish

ran them for a few yrs and then swapped back to standard and found the braking was loads better

and dont get me started on the time i found the friction material had just fell off my drivers side rear pads ....

Re: 16VT Brakes - 16/10/2014 21:25

with Omp 971C pads you can't go wrong
be careful when buy some pads ,there's a lot of counterfeit items

i bought Ebc green for 2 different cars ,they come with
different package and one was without break-in surface
obviusly lots of difference in stopping power...

i agree with OMP 971C, i tried the 20vt version ,awesome for road and track use

OMP grooved and drilled discs with ferodo ds2500 is good for 16vt.

But best thing you can do is upgrade to 305mm brembo brakes. Same as 20vt.

Doesn't fitting the brembos require driveshafts and hubs?

Re: 16VT Brakes - 20/10/2014 17:14

No driveshafts, only hubs.
