New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 22/11/2009 16:44

FC Performance Dyno League
I thought it might be interesting for everyone to see the results of live mapping, so I have compiled a FC Dyno League Table! Not every car I map is taken to the dyno for power figures, and I only recently started to take a copy of the results for each car so apologies for those that are missing. I should note all these cars were run on the exact same Dastek dyno so very good for comparing the various setups.

This Dyno table is a really good idea Leighton thumb

I can wait to see my name in the next table cool

My project was temporarily discontinued since a few months because of the lack of money but i have now all the funds to finish it correctly laugh

I want to run my car within a maximum of 2 or 3 months. I'm going to send you a pm with my full engine specifications and some last questions/advice needed before you begin the mapping part of the job wink

Yes - I'll take a digital photo and send it to you.

We really need to get mine back on the dyno - when you did the mapping in summer, it was already 50psi down one one cylinder, and not brilliant on a couple of others

Took a little more boost though! You would have been near enough the same power if the limiter was extended by a few hundred rpms. More boost would swell the torque no question.

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 23/11/2009 19:45

Leighton - my figures (from the April runs - we didn't dyno it in July - no point, as we knew it wasn't running right)

1.2 bar
385.6bhp @ 6555rpm, 317.2lb-ft @ 6204rpm

1.5 bar
388.9bhp @ 6496rpm, 350.8lb-ft @ 5076rpm

1.95 bar
400.8bhp @ 6365rpm, 363.1lb-ft @ 4936rpm

And just for the hell of it

1.9 bar on race fuel
420.8bhp @ 6606rpm, 358.0 lb-ft @ 5789rpm

Maybe the table needs to be "equalised" by putting up the max figures at the same boost pressure, eg: 1.2 bar?

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 09/12/2009 09:52

Hi Leighton,

Excellent table. smile

One question, can you point the reason between the torque vs. boost rates. There are cars with same turbo, but boost/torque values are very different.

For example two Coupes with GT3071R turbos, same boost, but huge difference between the torque!

In my Coupe both GT28RS and GT3071R have been given quite similar torque values with same amount of boost.

Regards,

Jari

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 10/12/2009 10:32

Jari the three cars with GT3071R's have different engine setups, so that will probably be a big factor in the difference in torque.

Eldinho

2047cc
Ported head with 3 angle valve seats
C&B cams
Raised CR 9:1

Westcoupe

2047cc
Raised CR 9:1

Luke's old 20VT

C&B cams
Standard CR and displacement

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 10/12/2009 11:33

Yes, they are all quite different in terms of specification. Luke also had a small exhaust at 2.5" with the decat pipe only 2.25" so very restrictive. It did sound like a jetfighter though!

Of course some engines respond better for reasons that are are not always overtly evident, that's tuning for you...
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 10/12/2009 15:45

Okay, now I understand smile .
Yes, the exhaust like that is really very, very restrictive.

So, the list is not that simple at all. The values are not necessary comparable, if you don't know the whole truth of the setup's.

Anyway, list like that done in very same RR is excellent. That's why we always use also the same RR everytime to see the difference after what ever we have done.

yeah, smaller exhausts sound like jets in coupes with more than std power or with decats, scares passers by!

Unfortunately there are very few 16vts about so the number left for mapping is quite limited. I have done four now although only one has been on the FC dyno!

Originally Posted By: johboy

Assuming the car is healthy and producing a standard 195bhp, then I would like to see somewhere between 230-240bhp. Of course it's not just about the headline figures, gains will be made across the full rpm range including off boost and part throttle.

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 03/02/2010 12:57

Flea, have you ever had a car on the rollers before and after the remap?

I was thinking about the results my hybrid made the other day. As you know it made 292bhp at Track'n'road on the GTiR but I wasn't able to get a booking at Circuit Motors when it was mapped.

The mapped RS did go on your rollers (Circuit Motors) and made 342bhp but subsequently made only 315bhp at Track'n'Road.

I know you explained how this difference could be caused (I won't get into a 'rollers vs' discussion gear used, heat soak, inertia vs load etc), but adding a fixed % gives me 317bhp, adding a fixed figure gives 319bhp.

What do you think the GTiR would have made on your rollers?
Posted By: Flea

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 03/02/2010 15:57

The GTi-R is the same as the Hybrid S2 (both 60mm compressors), and as you can see they average 285-295bhp so the same as your Track n Road 292bhp run.

The GT28RS 0.86 is a big turbo and can flow up to 380bhp no problem, so your current 342bhp is just tickling it at the minute until you get some exhaust upgrades.

Leighton,

I just bumped into Paul Warner at the cash point and hour ago. He's sold his coop on now apparently (burning too many clutches and engine moints or something), but he's convinced he was running a GT2871R, not a GT2860RS 0.86. Do you know something he doesn't as I'm sure we spoke about this at some point...

He wasn't sure, the only thing I can go on is how the car performed i.e. turbo spool, and of course the mapping. There is really no discernible difference in power ouput between a GT28RS 0.86 and a GT2871R 0.64.

Anyone that has had their car mapped by Leighton will know about "the call"

It always the call that you've been waiting for with equal measures of anticipation and dread - is it producing good power, or is there a problem.

My car has always been a right royal pain for Leighton - its NEVER gone perfectly, and this time was no different.

After fitting the 440cc injectors, one of the injector clips has broken - its secure enough for now but it'll need replacing.

then the bonnet cable broke, but only once Leighton had got all his cabling and sensors fitted rolleyes

Now the MAF is playing up a bit, so that needs doing.

However, when he put it on the dyno, it all became worthwhile

I'l let Leighton publish the figures, but suffice to say, I'm pretty happy laugh laugh

i'll go for 430
Posted By: Nigel

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 26/02/2010 10:27

Begbie - you're right - while the SuperSprint was obviously capable of allowing about 400bhp, it was clearly holding me back

As well as the peak power, I'm mighty impressed at the figures at "everyday" boost - I tend to run 1.2 bar daily, using 1.5 as a maximum on the road and 1.9 for drag runs and TOTB. Leighton 'only' mapped it to 1.7 bar this time, as he said that's where the efficiency was - any higher and it wasn't really producing any more power (although I guess the torque was probably impressive)

C'mon Leighton - spill the beans....

(actually, he's doing another car today, so may not post for a while)

Nope - that's it

It's now spooling up very early (1 bar by 3,200rpm) and with the bigger injectors, there is now no drop-off until it hits the limiter at 7,300

Due to my ever-increasing overdraft and Leighton's persistence at overcoming the niggles, my car is now where I've always wanted it - huge, broad, usable power.

Next on my list is suspension (Gaz coilovers if I can find the cash) and some urgently-needed paintwork (rusty arches and rear quarter)

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 26/02/2010 12:05

Glad you are where you want it Nigel. I'm happy with mine as well. I don't want to chase figures, I may one day get it on the rollers on a cold day to see if it would make more power. But at the end of the day it will still be the same car.

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 06/07/2010 18:10

The table has been updated! There is another 400 club to be added, indeed it is closer to the 500 club but that will be revealed in due course.

FC Performance is also evolving, you may have noticed the odd little bit of information filtering through, but behind the scenes there is plenty of development on the Coupe front so look out for some new updates smile

Im guessing the TB28 is a standard turbo?

If so, why are some at 1.3 bar and some at 1.2?

i thought 1.2 was the highest you could go on a standard turbo?

No - its the recommended max when EVERYTHING else is standard - if you have uprated intercooling, fuel pump mod and good boost control, you can go a little higher

It really depends on the car - some engines will take it, some won't

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 06/07/2010 18:55

This is the benefit (beauty) of live mapping, no two cars are created equal. If you look at the league table as a whole, then there are general patterns forming, but each car is tuned on an individual basis to give optimum performance.

I won't be changing things like that, not least because it is too hard to keep track of all these movements!

Netherless, the results are still relevant to the structure of the table, which is really about comparing the various setups on the exact same dyno.

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 30/01/2011 13:04

Flea can you confirm the different specs of the hybrids you've mapped? Taking the specs from the Power Italia list I'm guessing it's like this:

Stage 1 Hybrid
Standard Turbo (50 trim compressor wheel) with 360 deg thrust bearing

Stage 2 Hybrid (aka GTiR):
As stage 1 with 60 trim compressor wheel

Stage 3 Hybrid:
62 trim compressor wheel, T28 high flow turbine wheel, uprated 0.8 bar Actuator) inc 360 deg thrust bearing.

What is confusing is that Rog has listed them differently to the above

Option 1:
Standard Turbo (50 trim compressor wheel) but with 360 deg thrust bearing

Option 2:
Stage 1 (60 trim compressor wheel) inc 360 deg thrust bearing

Option 3:
Stage 2 (62 trim compressor wheel, T28 high flow turbine wheel, uprated 0.8 bar Actuator) inc 360 deg thrust bearing

If this is the case does this mean that you are getting around 300bhp from a standard turbo, presumably with a decat?
Posted By: Flea

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 30/01/2011 17:05

The TB28 is the standard turbo, whether this has uprated seals etc, it won't give any performance benefit so it is as "standard".

I have based the hybrid stages according to the general consensus as used by most on here, including Rog and other specialists.
Posted By: Gunzi

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 30/01/2011 17:23

I see. So what would a GTiR turbo be classed as? Stage 1 or stage 2?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: New FC Dyno League Table Discussion Thread - 30/01/2011 18:20

I would say the GTiR is a turbo on it's own!

If I remember correctly the GTiR has a 60 comp and a 60 trim....

I'm sure some one will correct me!!

I don't agree. I think every time a coop goes on these rollers with a different spec, the results should go up. It's a good way of seeing the results of a lot more set-ups on the same rollers. On the same engine is even better!

That said, I understand the whole 'league table' thing. Maybe two such charts would be better? smile
