Results of higher compressions?

Results of higher compressions? - 20/11/2009 20:49

Well hopefully by the end of next week we will know why I had such poor compressions?
Getting stripped monday, and i'm guessing the rings are shot, as I was massively overfueling for a good while..... Won't be making that mistake again!
Anyway my question is what difference will having perfect compressions make? Will the car be a lot more responsive low down or will it make more peak power.? Or both?

Compressions were 125 95 95 125, when flea mapped it...
Car still made 305 bhp at just 1.2 bar
Car actually runs 1.45 bar max boost!
Been seriously contemplating different turbo as car is apart, goal is around 340 bhp but i've been told my turbo won't produce any more than 320? T3 super 60..

I personally think i'll see 340 once back together with good compressions, so going get it back together and fingers crossed!

you will definatly see a difference buddy of course them comp readings are well low and no within 5% of each other.

Not sure it will do much more improvement on low down responsiveness apart from it being back to how it should of been from now having decent compression. on that turbo it should spool plenty quick enough anyhow.

It will improve every aspect of how the engine runs

to be honest i am shocked that managed such good results considering the compression ratio

Nick, email dink (Xav) he has just swapped to the same turbo as me, T04e 50 trim, on the .48a/r hotside, and is very pleased I think, he gets 1.5bar still pretty early

I really like the combo and now is the time ;-)

Saint also adviced me this turbo Nick, i wont get away with anything else wink The T3 super 60 will have to try real hard to produce 320 bhp, while the T3/4 will do it with more ease.

Saint has your turbo still got a 60 trim compresor but larger turbine than mine? Not really familiar with the different turbo specs?

Just been reading some other turbo related threads and it appears that headwork will alow my turbo to flow a little more than the quoted max so i'm quietly confident of reachin my target of 340 with my super quick spooling LITTLE turbo! smile

i cant understand that someone tune cars and dont have an Afr gauge with wideband lambda in.. It is 2009? smile
I have Aem uego it costs only 200dollar in us with bosch sensor..

2nd.
did have garrett or turbonetics super 60 and what compressor diameter? normal take 325 max reached out. i use a bigger one and run 1.45 boost 340hp
and take 1,55 for 355 laugh

Hi Nick, I forgot to mention that Dink and I both run stage 2 turbines for better exhaust side flow

the t04e 50 trim compressor has a 76mm exducer, I havn't got the map in front of me but it is a 450bhp capable turbo in the right setup, at 76mm it has the same exducer as the gt3076R but the wheel is old technology, so it is not as efficent across as wide a range, but in saying that it is the pick of the t04e IMHO

The Turbine side stage 2 is slightly bigger than standard and the changed trim allows for better flow at higher revs.

To get the most out of the turbo compressor you need to run a T04E cover ("hat") which in my case has a 3" inlet but I think it is avaible in 2.5" which may impact your SIP

Also it would mean should the clutch blow later you need to take the turbo off to get the gearbox out, well loosen it off anyway, as my mechanic found out, as the gearbox housing won't clear the larger compressor cover, the T04e 50 trim wheel maybe able to be machined into the smaller cover which is what I think Dink has done so talk to him about that

Cheers

Why not get the ballbearing version and drag your car into the 90s laugh

Without changing anything else and assuming you dont have any detonation, higher compression will give more torque everywhere, and more power. However good mapping will make a huge difference. When on boost, lowering the compression may not loose much peak power at all as you can get some back with more ign advance etc.
