Hi Sparco,
You should find the information you're after on the following page:

Hope this helps.

Re: Gearbox question - 06/02/2009 14:43

Fiat Coupe 20vt 6 speed:

1st Gear ratio 3.8:1
2nd Gear ratio 2.235:1
3rd Gear ratio 1.52:1
4th Gear ratio 1.156:1
5th Gear ratio 0.914:1
6th Gear ratio 0.816:1
Final drive (diff) 3.176:1

Fiat Coupe 20vt 5 speed:
1st Gear ratio 3.8:1
2nd Gear ratio 2.235:1
3rd Gear ratio 1.52:1
4th Gear ratio 1.156:1
5th Gear ratio 0.914:1
Final drive (diff) 3.111:1

and just for completeness, Alfa 156 V6 2.5 6 speed:
1st Gear ratio 3.5:1
2nd Gear ratio 2.235:1
3rd Gear ratio 1.52:1
4th Gear ratio 1.1613:1
5th Gear ratio 0.971:1
6th Gear ratio 0.816:1
Final drive (diff) 3.9375:1

so you can see the Alfa gears are more evenly spaced but the numerical higher (ie lower geared) diff will cut the top speed and fuel economy compared to Fiat box

Trevor perfect mate just what i need. Just got an Alfa 6 speed box so we're cooking now. Reckon i'll just go with the race diff instead of the Q2 though.

Paddy that's impression i got speaking to him and having racing experience makes me feel more comfortable as he knows what i need and can offer advice.

Re: Gearbox question - 07/02/2009 20:51

Aidie could have easily sold me loads of race parts for my turbo build that I didnt really need.

But he was honest with me and only sold me the parts that I would deffinately need and nothing more. And he also did me a good deal too and also dropped the postsge costs down a bit too.

Sond man.

Re: Gearbox question - 09/02/2009 22:45

Could somebody please tell me the kappa 20vt final drive (and the gearbox) ratios if they are different from the fiat coupe 20vt 5-speed box. I could not find this info so thanks in advance. Sorry for going offtopic.

Re: Gearbox question - 10/02/2009 01:48

Google for it.

Thats what i did when looking for various gearbox ratios and final drives.

Re: Gearbox question - 10/02/2009 05:46

Yes, I did that already. In fact, I did a full internet research but I was not able to find any kappa 20vt ratios. Only on the nyssa website did I find some clues about the kappas gearbox having the same ratios as the coupe.

Re: Gearbox question - 10/02/2009 13:02

Figures taken from my handbook:

Lancia kappa 20vt:
1st Gear ratio 3.8:1
2nd Gear ratio 2.235:1
3rd Gear ratio 1.36:1
4th Gear ratio 0.971:1
5th Gear ratio 0.811:1
Final drive (diff) 3.545:1

Strangely the kappa 2.4 (n/a) runs identical ratios to the Fiat Coupe 5 speed but with the k 20vt diff (3.545:1)

Re: Gearbox question - 10/02/2009 13:13

would it be possible to fit the final drive from the 20v n/a to the turbo gearbox to shorten the ratios that way and still have the strength of the turbo box

Re: Gearbox question - 10/02/2009 13:33

Thanks. It seems that there is no post-98 kappa manual available for download on the internet. As for the 2.4 box, I thought that it had a 3.562 final drive(well, makes no difference). Do you know why the kappa needs 7.3s and the coop only 6.5s to 100km/h. I don't think the data is correct(I'm currently deciding whether to by a kappa or a coop so i'm gathering info).

Re: Gearbox question - 10/02/2009 19:20

kappa is a lot bigger and a lot heavier than a Coupe, doubt that does the acceleration any favours. Aerodynamically its probably superior as the top speed is much the same and again the kappa will have massively more frontal area, its 6'1" wide after all

To decide which car you want depends on what you are looking for. Fiat will be quicker, more sporty. Kappa more refined, more comfort biased (but if you have the electronic suspension you get best of both worlds), kappa much larger inside, can carry 4-5 people easily (in comfort) and boot is simply giant - used to carry 4 wheels (with tyres and tools in the boot. Kappa will be better built, the k coupe was all but hand made and build quality rivals any Audi of the era

Kappa also easier to work on, much more space around the engine, the rest of it is Alfa 166 mechanically, not Fiat

But Fiat will still be quicker!

don't think so but no expert on 5 speed box. In the case of the 6 speed, not possibly to swap only the diff gearing as part of it is attached to one of the gear shafts, so have to swap those in as well

likely the na diff wouldn't be strong enough either

looking at my gearing figures above, the k coupe 20vt box would work for you, but rare as rocking horse droppings in the UK, you might find one being broken in Italy or Germany

Have no knowledge whether kappa saloon and SW 20vt have same gearing or not - the saloon is a lot more common than the coupe in Europe
