16vt project.. - 03/02/2006 04:53

First of all hello to everybody

Now let's get to the point.

I currently own a fiat bravo 1.6 and for quite some time I had this wish of putting the 16vt motor in my bravo.

As I have saved some money up, I can afford the motor, gearbox and ECU with all the wiring.

Also, as we are already going to take the car totally appart, I'd like to tune it to about 250bhp (i don't really want anymore because of the FWD...) and I'd like it with as little turbo lag as possible.

Here is where the questions kick in

1) Should I stick with the 5speed gearbox or go for the 6 speed one?

2) How much am I looking to spend to tune it up to 250bhp (all the work will be done either by me or by friends so I only need a rough estimate cost for the parts)

3) Any big differences between the 16vt motors, should I look for a specific year or is it all the same?

4) should I use any other gearbox or ECU (from another car) to execute my plans?

5) should I go with the 20vt motor instead of 16vt (this is kind of a retorical question - the 20vt is much more expensive here and as I do not own a HGT I will have much more troubles of putting it in - at least I was told that )

Thank you for all your help and yes, I will bug you some more later hehehe

for the 250bhp question im running about 240bhp of which the cost of doing so was;

- De-cat back (3",2.75" and 4" tail pipe.) £400
- EVO chip £55 3bar fuel pressure regulator £25 second hand
- K&N £50 second hand.
- Tipo inlet cam £60

so i make that £560 quid. without fitting costs.

well, that's a decent/acceptable price and like I said, I'll have a none or minimum fitting costs

what ever your budget is, double it. Deadly serious about that. I have learnt the hard way from doing this to my tipo 16v to 16vt and have spent money unecessarly if i did it correctly the first time round.

As for your questions:

- There is no 6 speed box for the 16vt so you will end up with a 5speed box.
- Wightman has answered your tuning questions (although a good fmic might be in order)
- no differences in year between the engines, all the same
- depends on what you want from the car. If you want a quick ratio box you could use a tipo 2.0 16v gearbox, but you will suffer with top end and cruising at m'way speeds, the box will also need to be converted to a push type mechanism and will need an uprated integrale 8v clutch to handle the power. The box can take the power as mine was over 100,000miles when i turbo'd the engine and took punishment for the next 2 years. ECU, well you could use an Integrale 16v / EVO1 ECU as you dont have to worry about the keycode and wiring associtaed with the coupe, but you do have to add in wiring for another map sensor (not hard, 3 wires to do)
- engine choice is up to you at the end of the day, do what you think is easiest

Hope some of this helps

i know there was no 6 speed box for the 16vt, but there was one for the 20vt, and that's way I mentioned it.

Hmm..I'll probably stick with the original 5speed tough

and one more thing; fmic = intercooler, right?
